House in Praia da Luz, Western Algarve - Wonderful Location, 1 mins Walk to the Beach, Use of 3 Pools

We hold our full rental licence which is now required by law in Portugal. Two bedrooms/two bathrooms are located on the ground floor which are accessible only from inside the house. The living area is via the outside staircase to front door. The roof terrace is though the patio door by the kitchen, via a staircase onto the roof. The front terrace is accessed through the lounge. The lovely large beach is a minutes walk and the nearest supermarket is a two minute walk away. Larger supermarkets about a five minute walk and they do deliver. The house is a safe house for children but not suitable for wheelchair users. The main bedroom has an ensuite shower room and the main bathroom is between the two bedrooms. The bedrooms are located downstairs, this is standard in most Portuguese houses as they tend to stay cooler in the summer. The living area includes a leather three piece suite, coffee table and 28 inch flat screen TV with DVD player. The open plan kitchen contains oven, hob, integrated fridge/freezer and integrated washing machine. Microwave, kettle and toaster. The lovely roof terrace has a large BBQ. Six chairs and a large table, two lounger chairs to lay back and enjoy the beautiful sunshine. We have use of all the pools at The Ocean club and the three pools at The Luz Bay Hotel.

Hi, thank you for looking at our house. My name is Madeleine Taylor and I live with my husband of 37 years, John. We have travelled all over Europe but fell in love with Portugal 18 years ago and have owned a property there for the past 15 years. Casa Meia is our second house in Praia da Luz. We bought the first house with another couple who decided they wanted to sell after 5 years. We loved Luz so decided to buy another house here. Casa Meia was perfect for us being so close to the beach and restaurants. The airport is only 50 mins and with no time difference from the UK it is a stress free destination.

Why madeleine taylor chose Luz

Loved the close proximity to the beautiful beach and easy access to so many other areas. As we had sold the previous house and split the proceeds we decided to call the house 'half a house' in Portuguese. The beach in Lagos is Maia Praia which means half a beach so we called the house Casa Maia. Our maid fell about laughing so we explained why we had so named the house. She explained that 'Maia' also means sock so she couldn't understand why we had called our house sock house. The spelling has changed to Meia which is now correct. The Portuguese people are so friendly and if you can venture out of Luz and find one of the local restaurants or grill houses you can find wonderful lively company and very cheap meals.

What makes this villa unique

Casa Meia has a superb roof terrace with a large BBQ. It is great watching the sunset and listen to the sea whilst relaxing and watching John cooking at the BBQ (can't understand, he never cooks at home!) might be sometime to do with the large G&T. A great place to unwind after such busy days! Our guests now have use of the all the pools, the pool bar and restaurant at the lovely Luz Bay Hotel which is less than 100 metres from the house. This means our guests now have a choice of 6 swimming pools when they choose our property.

: This property is very good for families because the bedrooms, although on the ground floor, can only be accessed though the house. The ground floor has a high wall around it making it very safe for children if parents want to spend the evening on the roof terrace. We do have a Mothercare travel cot with some linen. The whole house was refurbished 2007. All new furniture including brown leather suite. The kitchen is gold with black granite and integral appliances. Outside: In our opinion (and why we bought the house) the roof terrace is superb with lovely views of the sea and surrounding hills. A great place to watch the sunset and hear the sea. We use the Ocean Club as managers and have use of 3 pools. Also we have passes for the Luz Bay Hotel pools ,which are less than 100 metres from the house. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Maid service twice weekly. Includes cleaning and a towel change. Linen is changed weekly (beach towels are not included). Other: A built in bbq on the roof terrace, which also has water and electricity. Table/chairs and loungers.

A perfect location!

We had an amazing 2 week holiday at Casa Meia. The house was perfect in every way possible and Madeleine could not have been more helpful with the booking and any questions we may have had. The property’s location is excellent, very close to the beach, pools and restaurants. This was our first visit to Portugal and we will definitely be returning. The area and weather was fantastic. We had a couple of barbeques on the roof terrace, which is definitely a beautiful feature to the house. We would highly recommend Casa Meia and it’s location, Praia da Luz.

Couldn't be better !

Just returned from a super week at Casa Meia. The apartment surpassed its description and photos on the web site and Madeline couldn't have been more prompt and helpful with all our enquiries throughout the booking. The apartments location was excellent and was within very easy walking distance of the beach, restaurants and supermarkets. We especially loved the roof terrace and ended up there at the end of every night to enjoy some stunning star gazing ! The apartment had everything we could need and became a home from home very quickly. The best compliment we can leave is that we can't wait to get a chance to go back again !

A Wonderful Two Weeks

We had a wonderful two weeks in this perfectly located villa. Everything a family of four could need was provided in the well presented house, plus a lot more. The roof top terrace was an excellent place to relax after a long day relaxing !!! Would absolutely recommend staying in this lovely house.

Excellent Situation

We spent 7 nights in this lovely clean apartment which we have stayed in before. Location is fantastic, on this occasion we did not hire a car and public transport was excellent. The owners were great in advising us how to get from airport to Casa Meia, it all went smoothlyl. This time we took some friends with us and they would have no hesitation in going back to this lovely homely apartment. The beach is less than five minutes away there are numerous restaurants open and the weather was fantastic. Roof terrace just excellent. We walked across the tops to Lagos, a lovely walk with fantastic scenery. We will be back.

Excellent accommodation

The house had all we wanted and needed. We have stayed in this house many times and would recommend it highly. The roof terrace is such a lovely space and the location of the property is 2/3 minutes stroll from the beach. The property was described accurately and the owner provided an excellent customer service. The local restaurants are varied and the locals very helpful and extremely pleasant.

Casa Meia

We have now stayed in this accommodation for 5 years in a row, and

I think that says it all.

The house itself has superb facilities and the roof terrace is far better than the photographs illustrate.

Location-wise you are a two-minute walk to the beach and for such a small village Luz has an excellent choice of restaurants-all of which are

within a ten-minute walk of the house.

The property itself is always well maintained, with maid service twice a week, and we have always found the staff at the Ocean Club friendly and helpful.

I revert back to the first line of this review-5 years in row means there

is something about both the accommodation and the resort which places them above the run-of-the-mill properties on offer, and I would not hesitate to recommend both.

One minutes walk from lovely Luz beach. Here you can find sun loungers, sun shades and plenty of water sports. The beach is patrolled and has coast guards in attendance during the summer months As this is the Atlantic the waves are a bit rougher than the Med.

There are plenty of other beaches with a ten to fifteen minutes drive.


Faro is the nearest airport which is a 50 minute drive. The motorway is the IP1. It is an easy journey even if you haven't driven in Europe yet. We can recommend a rental car company if required. We can arrange taxi pickup if preferred.


The nearest town is Lagos, 15 minutes by car. It has a beautiful marina. There are loads of restaurants and bars here. From very bustling inexpensive Portuguese to expensive International ones. The shopping here is good and the town itself is steeped in history so it is well worth a visit. If you are not hiring a car, the bus service from Luz is very good and the taxis are not expensive. There are many places of interest to visit in and around Luz.

Further Details:

Days out with the children in the summer months are expensive and get very busy. Zoomarine is worth a visit but book with one of the tour operators rather than drive yourselves. Aquasplash has also been recommended to us but we have not tried this yet. Horse riding/cycling/Dolphin watching and sea fishing are all available nearby. The main supermarket (Baptista) is five minutes walk away from the house but there is a smaller one nearer. The medical service (luz Doc) is a superb 24 hour service with international Doctors, all English speaking.

Prices shown are for the property per week in UK Pounds. Discounts available for winter lets four weeks or longer. Please note the changeover days during school holidays 16 July until end August are Friday, Sat, Sun, only. The membership cards for use of the pools will require you to have your photograph on a card, this is supplied by the Ocean Club on arrival.
