Spacious Villa with Sea Views

Updated: 22-May-2016
Villa in Pelekito, Perithia, Corfu - Set in a Quiet Hamlet close to Beaches

Villa Anna is a stone built village house which originally housed the village olive press. It has been sensitively restored by its Irish owners and now offers spacious, comfortable accommodation in a home full of character. The stunning views of sea and sunsets can be enjoyed from both the extensive veranda on the first floor and the large rear walled garden. Set in a quiet hamlet, it is only minutes walk to Perithia, a traditional Greek village which boasts 2 excellent tavernas, a cafe and a post office. A short amble through olive groves brings you to St Spyridon beach; a pretty, gently shelving, sandy beach. Inland is mountainous and every vertiginous corner offers fantastic views of Albania and the N.E. coast. Pelekito is equidistant from the livelier resorts of Acharavi and Kassiopi (about 5-6 km). This area is very popular with walkers and naturalists. The renowned Lake Antinioti can be seen from the villa's veranda.

About the Owner

My husband and I live in Ireland but have 5 children scattered around the UK.

We fell in love with Greece as students in the seventies. We travelled extensively in the Greek Islands , often at great personal risk on the ferries (!) but always came back to our first love... Corfu.

Before visiting for the first time I had read Gerald Durrell's 'My family and Other Animals' and been captivated by the sunkissed paradise he described. The reality lived up to all my expectations.

It would be disingenuous to suggest that the idyll he painted is unchanged but in our little corner in the North-east you will daily see elements of Greek life that have remained the same for centuries.

We love it and hope you will too.

Guestbook comments from the owner

"5 star accommodation in an idyllic setting. We just loved the character and comfort of the house and the proximity to the lovely Greek village of Perithia. We could easily have spent all our time here ensconced in this magnificent rural setting but it was also ideal for touring the glorious N.coast." May 2007

A little piece of paradise

Villa Ana

Nestled between the vibrant resort towns of Acharavi and Kassiopi lies the picturesque hamlet of Pelekito, a mere stone?s throw from St. Spiridon beach where children frolic in the safe and shallow waters and build castles on the sandy shore. Hidden amongst century-old gnarly olive trees a walk along the lone ?road? in the village vaults you back in time. Houses in their original stone construction stand as a reminder of simpler times in the northern Corfiot village at whose end stands Villa Anna, a home full of character, wonderfully renovated by the owners to preserve the original feel but possessing all the modern amenities you need. A sprawling back garden opens to a marvelous view of the Ionian Sea and distant Albanian mountains Villa Anna offers the perfect launching pad for exploration of North Corfu and beyond. The upper level with 3 smart bedrooms and 2 full bathrooms ensure a good night?s rest in comfort in the peaceful surroundings. Two of the bedrooms feature a walk-out to a large terrace where you can watch a brilliant sunset while enjoying the local beverage of your choice. The lower level with its stone walls and staircase stays cool even during the hottest of summer days while the kitchen is very large with full sized fridge and stove appealing to culinary types who prefer to cook even while on vacation! The entrance with its ?mud room? and utility bathroom are brilliant - the perfect spot to wash all unwanted sand & other ?beach treats? off the kids before they begin to meander through the rest of the house. The extras that Mike and Anne are able to provide really take the whole experience over the top. From the additional water tank (truly a brilliant idea) to the barbecue & table tennis out back to the wireless internet availability, you quite literally have it all at Villa Anna.

Local Amenities

Nikos Supermarket on the main road in Kassiopi was the best supermarket in the area, well stocked with fresh fruit and vegetables, and access to wonderful fresh fish ? at reasonable prices. Acharavi has a great butcher shop on the left as you enter town and Demetri?s grocery a little further down is well stocked also.

Mike & Anne

Our trip would not have been as amazing had it not been for the engaging spirit of Mike and Anne who were remarkably responsive from the moment I enquired on the property. We had the fortune to meet them in person and regret not having been able to spend some more time with them.

Highly Recommended

Owner's Response: Delighted that Bob and family enjoyed the house, the area and the island so much. Bob booked well in advance and it was great getting to know him in the months before his holiday. Great guests! We hope they come back.

From the Owner

We wanted to be part of the fabric of a' proper' Greek village. We think our location is perfect; we are in a village, with all the drama that entails, but have a seaview and are minutes away from the beautiful ,safe sandy beach at Aghios Spiridon. For those who crave a bit more activity Acharavi and Kassiopi are short drives away and the glam 'Kensington-on -sea' is close enough for those special meals out in Agni. Pelekito is a microcosm of Greek life, which is never dull. Drama is first nature to a Greek and there is no situation too trivial not to get energetically engaged about. We love being part of all that but similarly it is good to know that the other ingredients of a great holiday, viz great beaches, good tavernas, interesting sites and beautiful scenery are nearby.

Activity and Interests

Local beach ,Spiridon, is c. 8-900 metres along the road, about 2 minutes by car, c. 20-30 minutes' walk [downhil to the beach, quite steep returning]. Many more beaches are within just 5-10 minutes drive.

Corfu airport is approx. an hour's drive from the villa. There are frequent charter flights May to October and scheduled flights from Athens all year. Ferries from Italy and mainland Greece. Car hire can be arranged by the owners.

From the Owner

Our home was originally an olive press and a few of the old artefacts remain. We have tried to retain a balance between character and comfort. ( You can flush paper down the loos and all the beds have sprung mattresses and divan bases!). The local history is fascinating and some of our immediate neighbours lived through the ravages of the Civil War after WW2. James Chatto's book 'The Greek for Love' provides excellent background for some of the locality. Ours is the last house in the village and our front door opens on to a cul de sac only used by us and 2 neighbours. The rear of the property overlooks olive groves which extend to the coast, and offers stunning views of the sea and the islands of Othoni and Ericoussa. We sit on our balcony and watch spectacular sunsets. Heavenly!
