Casa Do Mel (House of Honey) - Situated in its own unique large grounds, in a quiet tree lined valley and within 10 minutes walking distance of the beautiful beach of Santa Eulalia, our charming, detached country style villa has been lovingly upgraded to offer the perfect 5 star holiday experience.

A wealth of indoor and outdoor space is available for your relaxation, or you can take advantage of the many amenities we provide to keep a large family group entertained.

The main entrance hall with its Stone arches, gives access to both the main house and the annexe and houses the free play, American pool table, so popular with our guests.

All of the rooms are well furnished, spacious and well situated, with a large lounge, and dining room leading to the outside covered terrace and comfortably furnished open garden room. The well equipped kitchen has everything you will possibly need for a home from home stay, with direct access to the dining room and to the secluded Mediterranean style enclosed courtyard, with olive tree, vines and built in barbecue.

There are 4 large en suite bedrooms in the main house and a 5th large en suite bedroom in the attached annexe, with its own kitchen/utility.

The secluded south facing garden features a 10 x 6 metres swimming pool, poolside patio, lawns, deck area with a second covered BBQ and also play areas including table tennis, Tarzan swing, swings, and climbing frame and to the sides, are more extensive mature gardens with a badminton/volley ball area.

It is hard to imagine whilst in this idyllic location, that the beach and restaurants are just a 10 minute walk away.

3 extra sofa style mechanism beds & 3 cots can be positioned in some of the rooms.

There are extensive pieces of equipment for your babies including 2 cots, 2 high chairs, 2 push chairs/buggies, portable bath on stand, potty and stool, melamine crockery and cutlery, baby monitor, liquidiser, jigsaw play mats, inflatable paddling pool, baby/toddler toys.

There are 2 flat screen 40” LED TV systems, one in the lounge and one outside in the garden room, with all your favourite TV stations and UK BBC & ITV I players provided through our internet broadband service.

Inside we provide much more for your entertainment with a well stocked bookcase, a large selection of family films, music and children’s viewing on DVD, as well as an enormous collection of music on CD’s, which can be played through the portable CD player or the TV system DVD players. An extensive selection of family and children’s boxed table games and a few PC CD Rom games.

Outside there are numerous well equipped social areas with a large granite topped dining table with comfortable weather weave seating for 12 people and a further hardwood table and chairs to seat 8 people. There are 10 sun beds at the poolside with soft cushions, parasols and numerous portable garden tables and chairs.

For the children, the outside is such a fun space with the above mentioned play areas as well as the rustic wooded areas to explore or play hide and seek. Also provided are petanque/boules and cricket sets, several child surf boards and inflatable toys for the swimming pool.

All of these outside spaces have adequate soft lighting including underwater pool lamp, to extend the outside experience after dark, a real treat for us Northern Europeans.

The front courtyard gives adequate parking space for a number of cars.

In 2005, five years after early retirement, we made a delayed but, big, big decision, to sell our house in England and go for a complete life change, following our dream to own a 'Place in the sun'.

We moved out, put all our possessions and remaining furniture, into storage and moved into our touring caravan on a seaside site in our locality. Yes, people thought that we were mad!

Three months later we set off for a 4 week trip to Portugal's Algarve having invited a handful of Estate Agents to help us find our place in the sun.

After seeing more than a dozen lovely houses, up and down the coast, we were taken to Casa do Mel. Wow!

Yes, we both felt the wow, even though it presented us with an enormous task in repairs and renovation and made an offer at the first viewing. John and Maggie

The villa is gorgeous both inside and out, in a lovely setting surrounded by trees and not overlooked. It has everything a group or family could possibly want on holiday. I loved it that there are different areas to eat (inside and out). At no point did I feel on top of anyone as there's enough bathrooms and bedrooms, well spaced away from each other. The interior of the villa is lovely and is equipped with everything you would possibly need, including lots of games, books and toys for the kids. I especially loved the pool, the master bedroom (I bagged that one) and the log cabin. Also, for those hangover days you've got a bit of English telly to slump in front of. It's a short walk to everything, including a lovely beach and cafe, the restaurants and the famous 'Strip'. A car would help for a party preferring to eat in, to transport shopping. I recommend the villa to anyone of any age and would definitely go back. Lisa Pawson August 2007.

Perfect family getaway

We spent 2 lovely weeks at Casa Do Mel in July. The villa is very impressive inside and set in beautiful grounds outside. The Garden Room was a firm favourite for everyone and where we spent most of our time. The pool area is lovely and also gated which was great for us as we had 2 toddlers running around. The villa is only a 10 minute walk away from the town although it must be said that it is a walk down a very bumpy, uneven road and then uphill for the remainder of the walk which is not ideal for anyone with disabilities or mobility problems. I would highly recommend hiring a car if you are unable to walk very far as getting a taxi in Santa Eulalia is near on impossible and something that many of the locals confirmed to us is a major problem in this town! The town has many bars and restaurants and there is also a train which takes you straight to the Old Town if you fancy a change of scenery. Sarah and Steve who look after the property were very welcoming and helpful throughout our stay. We will definitely be returning in the near future.

Lovely secluded villa

Villa is lovely and spacious, especially the master bedroom, and very well equipped with high chairs, buggies, toys, games etc for the children, also pool table, games, books etc for the adults. Very private, beautiful gardens and very safe for the children to play but not far to walk to the beach and nearby supermarket. Everyone enjoyed the pool, BBQ's and especially the garden room. Would thoroughly recommend for a family/group holiday.

We wanted an older style house with charm, a big mature garden, in a secluded location, with space for a pool and as close as we could get to the coast. When we found Mel, we weren't disappointed, it already had a large pool. We soon realised that the location had so much more to offer, as we also love the area, the local restaurants and of course the nearby, beautiful, beach at Santa Eulalia. We love being there throughout the winter period when we carry on with improvements to the house and its facilities with the wonderful winter sunshine of the Algarve, allowing us to spend most of our time out in the open. We did stretch our budget to buy Mel and made the decision to offer it as a rental property for the summer months. Activity and Interests

Special interest holidays:

Walking: This villa offers an ideal base for those who enjoy coastal walking and so would be of interest to rambling groups. Maps and details of walks, of the local footpaths are available in our on-site information folder. The local English newspapers, 'The Resident' & 'Portugal News' advertise weekly guided walks.

The local ticket office for coach excursions along the Algarve and further afield is only 10 minutes walk from the villa. They offer day trips as far afield as Spain - Seville or Portugal - Alantejo villages, Lisbon etc.

The villa is within easy reach of all of the Algarves golf courses.


The beautiful beach of Santa Eulalia with its golden sands and unspoilt cliff walks, is just 10 minutes walk, with beach fish restaurant and excellent lunch stop at the Grande Real Beach Café, Atlantico. The area in general has some of the most beautiful unspoilt coastline on the Algarve with shallow waters and safe bathing in marked areas. The nearby bay of Praia da Oura has many watersports facilities and even more restaurants overlooking the beach.

The recently added Woodland adventure park is a must for the children with rope bridges, obstacles and climbing amongst the trees and is just a short walk of 400 metres.



From Ferreiras station (Albufeira) 10 minutes by car/taxi, it is possible to visit Lisbon on the tilting fast train in about 2.5hrs.

A railway runs right along the Algarve with stops near many of the main towns, between the capital, Faro and Lagos in the west.

Car hire can be inexpensive in the Algarve, please ask.

The nearby bus services are very good. There is also a ticket bureau only 10 minutes walk for booking events & excursions and this is also the main pick up/drop off point.


Distances by car: Faro airport 40 mins. Albufeira 5 mins.

Beach 2 mins. Balaia Golf (9 holes) 4mins. Seville Spain about 2.3 hours. Albufeira shopping mall 5 minutes. Algarve shopping mall 15 mins.

Walking times: Beach 10 mins. Nearest restaurants 10 mins The Strip with its numerous restaurants and nightlife 15 mins. Tourism information centre, 15 mins.

Further Details:

Sports equipment: All weather table tennis table, indoor pool table, petanque, badminton/volleyball net erected in the annexe garden. Various inflatables for the pool. A collection of indoor board games. For those who love to be pampered, you can use the Spa facilities of the nearby prestigious 5 star Hotel Grande Real, by arrangement with their reception.

Villa refurbishment:

We purchased the house in January 2007 and started work right away, carrying out extensive refurbishments and improvements to the property and have continued to do so each winter since then, including major re-rendering and decoration of both interior and exterior walls, new floor tiling to all of the ground floor and first floor, rewiring and addition of many new points and lamps, The installation of air-conditioning, a new wood burning fire and surround, new granite worktops to the kitchen units, enlargement of the dining room with added patio doors leading to the garden room, complete replacement of all of the furniture, beds, bedding, rugs, curtains etc. Outside we have also been very busy and have repaired and repainted all of the outside and courtyard walls, the roof terrace walling and in the front garden, the wooden chalet, decking, barbecue garden room, swings, tarzan swing and table tennis areas have been added to offer additional social spaces for your enjoyment. Also outside, the courtyard has been enlarged with additional lighting. We intend to continue with upgrading and improving our villa, each winter.

  • Notes on accommodation: The Annexe: Accessed via the main entrance hall. This single storey building houses the 5th bedroom, shower room and utility room. The utility room has a washing machine, sink, cooking facilities and is available for guests for their personal use. The Utility room can be used as an extra bedroom, housing 2 of the extra child beds/cots, but does not have the comfort offered by the bedrooms. We can send a photograph showing the Utility room made up with 2 extra beds. The garden room which was added in 2011 has been very popular with all of our guests, providing a shaded but open outside space with very comfortable seating, coffee table and the added advatage of a TV System, WIFI access and power point, making it an ideal place to just relax among friends. Outside: The beautiful large gardens, enclosed by mature trees and shrubs, provide a private secluded setting to just relax, away from it all. The 10x5m private pool is located in the south garden with tiled surround and lawns. The trees and shrubs provide a succession of colour to the garden throughout the season. Garden furniture provides 10 sun beds, 3 tables and numerous chairs. built in BBQ area in rear courtyard as mentioned above. The play area adjacent to the pool garden, has swings, climbing frame, tarzan swing & table tennis, offering fun for the children. Also in the the pool garden is the garden room and Wooden Chalet/Summer House with decking and second built in BBQ, offering yet more social spaces. The pool has underwater lighting. The following outside areas can be lit up at night: The pool garden, garden room, chalet, decking and BBQ areas. the courtyard and BBQ, The paths adjacent to the house and the roof terraces. Utility Room: The annexe utility room has washing machine, clothes horse, ironing board, iron, laundry basket, second fridge, hob and microwave oven. This Utility room can be used as an extra bedroom with 2 single beds, but does not have the comfort of the other rooms. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Cleaning and towel change is carried out before your arrival and then again midweek. Bed linen is changed weekly. Pool towels are available and changed once a week. Any additional changes can be requested at an extra cost. Other: The Dining room adjoins the kitchen and lounge with marble top table and up to 10 chairs. The 2.7m wide glass patio doors lead you to the garden room, which has comfortable conservatory style wicker furniture and path leading to the swimming pool.
