The ground-floor Garden Apartment is perfect for solo travellers or couples. Charming, beautifully furnished & 'cottagey' in style, it is extremely cosy & comfortable, with oak flooring & rugs throughout (the bedroom is carpeted).

The accommodation comprises:

- sunny living-room - 2 reclining seats plus sofa, dining table/chairs, recess window overlooking the park to the front of the house with cosy window-seat

- kitchen - fridge, freezer, clothes washer/dryer, dishwasher, oven/hob, microwave, coffee-maker

double bedroom - double bed, full-length mirror, comfortable easy chair, wardrobe, and dressing-table & chair, bedside lamps, and with garden/park views

- fully-tiled, modern bathroom - shower over the bath/large glass shower screen, heated towel rail and shaver point.

We pay personal attention to detail and consider cleanliness of paramount importance! All three apartments have Broadband Wi-Fi access, free parking and a great DVD library for those lazy days at 'home'.

Scottish Thistle Award Winner (Visit Scotland - Scotland's Tourist Board - most prestigious awards), for: 'The Extra Mile' and Finalist for 'Customer Care'. Pilrig House is an historic Scottish townhouse (built 1638) with a wonderful literary connection to Robert Louis Stevenson - as a child, RLS often visited his uncle, David Balfour, & played in the gardens here. He mentions Pilrig House in many of his books & novels, eg Kidnapped & Catriona.

Guests will enjoy wonderfully comfortable, stylish & impeccably clean accommodation, and a lovely private garden in which to relax, a tranquil park on the doorstep - perfect for that early morning jog, & park views from all three apartments' main rooms.

Each apartment offers a FREE allocated parking space in a secure private car park to the rear of the house - this is exceptionally rare in Edinburgh and means you don't have to worry about finding a parking space and topping up meters every two hours ('on-street' parking). Each apartment also has free Wi-Fi.

Edinburgh city centre & all the main attractions are only a 15-20 min. stroll away (just over 1 mile), or 5 mins by bus (there are bus-stops within a few mins' walk of Pilrig House). The open-top Majestic hop-on, hop-off bus tour departs from a bus-stop right outside the entrance to Pilrig House Close, which means you literally step outside, walk around 30 yards, hop aboard, and you can stop at the Royal Yacht Britannia, the Georgian New Town, Edinburgh's Botanical Gardens, Holyrood Palace on the Royal Mile, the Scottish Parliament... then stroll up to Edinburgh Castle.

Waverley station is 1.2 miles away, and a taxi here would cost c. £7.

About Debbie Martin

Philip is a retired naval engineer, and Debbie a proofreader/copy editor.

We have both travelled extensively and when we set up Pilrig House Apartments 11 years ago, our aim was to provide guests with immaculate, fabulously equipped & extremely comfortable accommodation. Since then, we have been delighted to see the same faces return again, and again - & their friends & families! In 2015, over 50% of our guest were returnees.

We enjoy meeting guests from around the world & always try to make our guests feel especially welcomed & supported throuhgout their stay.

Living at Pilrig House means we are able to offer advice and help, & the hand of friendship, if wanted, while guests stay here.

Since start-up, we have won the Scottish Thistle Award - 'The Extra Mile'; finalist - Customer Care award, and, in 2014, Best Holiday Accommodation. We have been nominated, again, for Best Holiday Accommodation for 2015.

Well - there's the fact the Pilrig House is utterly unique as an historic 17th-century Scottish townhouse in Edinburgh - with its incredible history! Then there's the lovely location, and the parkland and Edinburgh skyline views... And the peace is supreme! Then, there's the wonderful ambiance in the house itself - it really is special. And, the private parking, the beautiful gardens... there is so much to enjoy about living here. We just couldn't replicate what Pilrig House offers if we searched the length and breadth of Edinburgh. And the fact that we can walk into the centre of Edinburgh in 15-20 mins, or take a bus mins' walk through the park... more than anything, we love the feeling of living in the country, with nature on our doorstep, while living so close to the city centre.

What makes this apartment unique

The Peaceful Setting

All of the above! We awaken to birdsong, can gaze out our windows & see the park in all seasons, or sit in the garden to the side of the house in total privacy and enjoy the tranquillity. We often walk down to the Port of Leith - only a 6-minute walk from Pilrig House and now a trendy dining spot, where there are great restaurants, including Martin Wishart's, The Plumed Horse & The Kitchin (all Michelin-star) right on the waterfront. Everything we need is close-by - shops, transport links, restaurants (2 within mins), Edinburgh's main train station... and, there are beautiful drives to the East Lothian countryside and coastal trail, including some charming villages - within a half-hour's drive.

A Great Base for Wider Scottish Travel

Pilrig House is a wonderful base for wider travel throughout Scotland - many of our guests book Pilrig House as their home base, hire a car, and travel extensively when here - even taking flights up to the Hebridean islands - which are only a 1-hour flight from Edinburgh. Our central location makes travelling north, south, east and west a dream.

Golf Paradise

Pilrig House also attracts many golfers each year - it really is a great base if you love golf - see our own website's Golf section - it lists all the courses nearby - and the distances from other well-known Scottish courses. Our specialist driver can also take you to and from the course, if you would prefer not to drive yourself - he is a golfer himself and can even play, or walk the course with you.

Booking Notes:

Changeover Day:
Changeover day is flexible - preferably not Sundays. Check-in is 2.30-3.30pm, unless a later time has been arranged. If earlier check-in is required, we charge £75 to ensure this (we block off the day before). Departures is by 10am latest.

All main bedrooms and living-rooms overlook the garden and park - lovely to awaken to the sound of birdsong and not traffic noise! Just along the road is a great gym and leisure centre, which is cheap to access and is open very early in the morning - full-length swimming-pool, body conditoning classes, sauna, greatgym, steam room...
