About the property

Farmhouse in La Touche, Civray, Vienne, Poitou-Charentes - Large Secluded Garden

Our 17th Century farmhouse has been completely modernised to ensure comfort whilst maintaining some original features. There is a very large lounge/diner with a large wood burner, although the house is also fully centrally heated for the winter months. There is a full family bathroom on each floor and an additional WC on the ground floor. The house is set in 1.5 acres of garden with its own private fenced pool. It is secluded, peaceful and situated on the edge of a small hamlet making it an ideal place for a relaxing family holiday or for chilling out with friends. The large garden provides a lovely safe play area for children. There are several patio areas around the house as well as a large patio surrounding the pool. We have a table tennis table and football table for guests to use. The area has rivers and lakes with a variety of water sports, fishing, golf, tennis and horse riding. Civray is 5 kms away with a good range of shops, bars and restaurants. We also have a variety of push bikes for our guests to use.

Why Debbie Cropanese chose Genouillé

We have always loved holidays in villas, traditionally in Spain or Menorca, however we then discovered France. We love the additional land traditionally afforded by french properties. Two young children also made up our minds as the additional space is a real bonus. The privacy, our own pool and such a lovely area with lots to do made La Touche an easy choice for us. We have had lots of lovely feedback on our home as we try to ensure our guests feel like they are at home when they visit. We would love to spend more time in France to enjoy our home but as we can't we decided to share it with people who too enjoy France, privacy and space as much as we do. Hopefully sunshine too!!

What makes this farmhouse unique

It is a peaceful location but within easy reach of some beautiful towns. The river and some fantastic lakes are also very near to the property. We have always found the village to be very friendly. The large garden means that we can relax knowing our children have lots of space to play safely. The pool is obviously a huge bonus.

Notes on accommodation: Hairdryers are supplied in each bedroom, 3 of the upstairs bedrooms have very large walk-in wardrobes. The outbuilding seen on the photos belongs to our property and is used purely for storage. Outside: The garden is very secluded and is 1.5 acres with its own private drive and parking. There are patios on 3 sides of the house and a large patio area surrounding the pool. There is plenty of patio furniture including chairs, loungers and tables. The swimming pool is private and exclusively for use by our guests. The pool is 8m x 4m, fully fenced with a solar cover to maintain temperature. The house is not overlooked and is solely for the use of our guests. There is a table tennis table in the garden for our guests. We also have bicycles for all the family. Utility Room: Washing machine, fridge/freezer, Hoover, iron and ironing board, playpen for babies. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Bed linen and tea towels are included. The property is cleaned on changeovers and included in the rental cost. Other: There is a mezzanine area upstairs which has seating for reading or simply relaxing. There is a football table in the downstairs hallway.

French adverture

It was our first time in France and we absolutely loved it! The Gite was beautiful and it catered for everything and more. We loved the swimming pool and the ample outside space. Our two children enjoyed playing football. cricket, table tennis and french boules. The surrounding area was also beautiful and it was a pleasure going for a run next to the Sunflower fields. On an evening we enjoyed how peaceful it was and because there was no artificial light we could see so many stars and planets. We did go to Civray and other local villages to experience the local markets and we had a couple of lovely meals out. The only downside of our holiday was that we were there when France take their holidays from 12.8.17 to 26.8.17 so some places weren't open and the day we were leaving some of the towns and villages had lots going on to end their holiday. Overall we had a fab time and we will definitely be re-booking in the future.

Excellent facilities with everything you would need.

Just my husband and I stayed but it had all you would need for a family holiday. Lots of space and safe for children. The pool was clean and well tended and a definite bonus as it was over 35 degrees in September this year. No facilities close to hand but the local town has all you need. Some bits and pieces of renovation still under way but nothing to spoil our holiday

A wonderful property in a beautiful location, set in scenic surroundings.

The property is fantastically equipped with everything you will need, with a modern kitchen and beautiful fireplaces. It is spacious and clean and located close to a supermarket.

Booked again already!

Escaped to this delightfully large farmhouse in France with a small group of girlfriends looking to recover from the day to day motherhood/work/maid service we call our lives.

The farmhouse description was very accurate but we were not expecting it to be so beautifully idyllic and peaceful and paired with the stunning authentic french surroundings that could not be captured on film.

It was very well maintained, very spacious and very clean and we felt very relaxed from the minute we arrived.

With a small parade of well stocked shops just a short drive away (lidls -with amazing priced wine, olives and cakes and other survival staples) and a step back in time to a french village and a delicious morning bakery serving fresh croissants and french pastries a 10 minute stroll through sunflower fields away....

You could be really lazy and do not much at all but breathe out and relax next to the pool. The weather was stunning so we explored the surrounding areas and found divine french cafés, riverside restaurants and lakes and parks. Our children would have loved it too and we all felt a little guilty watching other children enjoying this amazing part of France but thankfully it was fleeting.

This break was a wonderful taste of an authentic, french country life from another time and we all absolutely loved it.

An Excellent Gite in a Delightful Location

The gite was spacious and well appointed, located in attractive grounds in an idyllic rural setting. Unfortunately the weather was not kind to us, so we were unable to fully appreciate the gardens and pool. Nevertheless we enjoyed several very pleasant walks and cycle rides around Genouille, Lizant and St Gaudent. We would particularly recommend a visit to La Valee des Singes ( our granddaughter was captivated...and so were we!), we also enjoyed a day trip to Angouleme and visited the market in Civray.

The owners provided all the information that we required and readily answered additional questions. I would certainly consider returning to this gite or recommending it to others.

There is a long sandy beach just south of La Rochelle which is about one and a half hour's drive and is well worth a day trip. There are beaches on many of the local lakes also, the closest being at St Macoux (approx. 8 km), it also has a water chute and there is a restaurant, bar and fishing available here too.


Poitiers airport 50 mins drive, La Rochelle about 2 hours, Limoges airport about one and a half hour's drive - all served by Ryanair from Stansted / Luton or Easy Jet from London Gatwick. Bordeaux airport is 2 hour's drive - British Airways fly from Gatwick. St Malo is 5 hour's drive. Calais and Boulogne approx 7 hour's using A28 making it autoroute virtually all the way. Car hire essential. Dieppe is approx. 6.5 hours drive.


The village of Genouille is 1km and has a bakery. The nearest supermarket is 4km away and is open every day including Sunday morning. There are many picturesque towns and villages nearby either set on the river or with fantastic Chateaux.

Further Details:

Futuroscope theme park is 50 mins drive on the N10 towards Poitiers. For the young (and old) there is the Valle de Singes (monkey sanctuary), 20 mins drive, and the European Zoo, 1.5 hours drive. Locally at Civray there is canoeing and river fishing and a large outdoor pool. At Angouleme there is a lake complex with a sandy beach, jet skiing, water skiing, windsurfing and a leisure centre with children's pools, chutes and lazy river. There is a lake at St Macoux with swimming, flume and fishing this is approx 8km away. La Rajellant is a 15 minute drive (near Ruffec) has amazing kayaking, wonderful swimming and lovely restaurant.
