Tavira Garden is unique. It is generally considered to be the most prestigious complex in the unspoilt Eastern Algarve and is composed of individually designed apartments and villas, set around spacious, mature, beautifully landscaped gardens. The complex has two large pools, two adjoining children’s pools, tennis court, gym, children’s playground and picnic area with brick barbecue. There is a restaurant and bar, with additional outside dining facilities and a poolside bar (open in the high season). Wifi is available (for free) in the apartment as well as in Reception. There is ample parking, and the reception/office is open Monday – Friday (English spoken). The complex is close to the historic town of Tavira, with its cobbled streets and numerous restaurants and cafes, many of which overlook the River Gilao. Golf courses, beaches and the nature reserve of the Rio Formosa are also close by.

We now live in Cheshire, having spent a number of years working abroad in Hong Kong, Singapore and Dubai. Terry sold computer systems, and Di was a teacher. We are now semi-retired, running our own training company, which allows us plenty of time to travel.

Wonderful apartment, beautifully and tastefully equipped and decorated. The choice of terraces meant we could opt for sun or shade depending on the time of day. Tavira Garden Bistro was very friendly. Tavira is a real gem, old and new. Thanks for a wonderful week.

Very lovely and spacious apartment.

A family of 4. Lovely spacious apartment. Was in a fantastic position within Tavira Gardens, quiet and had great views from 2 balconies. The apartment had all the things you needed for a perfect holiday. The air con was a big plus and also the excellent wifi was a bonus. The apartment was clean and well maintained and it was great to have the lady in to change sheets and towels after a week into our stay. Tavira Gardens is lovely with 2 great swimming pools with a very handy snack bar which the food is very nice. The only downside is the main road outside the complex which you have to be so careful walking into Tavira town centre. We would always get a taxi back. Great town Tavira with some excellent restaurants. We visited 3 beaches during our stay, we liked cabanas beach best and liked the little ferry journey across. Just for information, 2 beds and 1 brolley = 20 euros. Overall we had a great holiday and Di and Terry were a pleasure to deal with. Very professional and extremely friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend this apartment.

Excellent Apartment & Excellent service

This was our first time in Tavira so didn't know what to expect but From the moment we contacted Di & Terry they made the process very easy and were very helpful in everyway. The property was lovely, very homely, very clean and well maintained with everything you need for a comfortable stay, including comfortable beds, the air con was a god send as weather was extremely hot . This holiday was so relaxing and we just loved Tavira, it is so pretty and unspoilt and felt very safe, the beaches are wonderful, it was so nice to come back to the apartment late afternoon and sit on the lovely big terrace for a nice cool drink & watch the world go by. I would recommend this apartment to my friends and would have no hesitation in going back again.

HOME FROM HOME

This was our third stay in Terry and Di's lovely apartment, and as always we thoroughly enjoyed it. The apartment is spotlessly clean, spacious and a fully equipped kitchen with everything you need to cook as much or as little as you like. Air con in both bedrooms and living room gives much needed respite in the heat of the summer months. There are two large terraces, both with tables,chairs and sunbeds. Plenty of sun and shade at any time of the day. The apartment is in a very quiet location not far from the pool . A flat twenty minute walk takes you into the centre of Tavira with a good choice of restaurants and cafes to choose from. Five/ten minute walk and you have the gran plaza with more places to eat,a cinema and a large supermarket with everything you need for a self catering holiday. Terry and Di are wonderful hosts and we hope to be back next year.

Wonderful apartment

Just back from a one week stay in this apartment. What a lovely spacious, well maintained and clean apartment it turned out to be (just as described and photographed). The size of this apartment including balconies were are real treat and it was a pleasure to return back to it each afternoon to relax in the late afternoon sun before we set out for dinner. Inclusive air conditioning and Wi Fi were a real bonus are very much appreciated by our children as were the books and games. The apartment is very well maintained and surrounded by pretty landscaped gardens. Such a peaceful spot (block 7) is set well back from the main road we didn't have one disturbed nights sleep. The complex has two sets of pools to choose from, we stayed each day at the main one next to the pool side bar and restaurant. We met and made friends with other families and found it a relaxing place to stay all day. Tavira town is very sweet, beautifully clean and tidy with a lovely promenade. To avoid the main road outside of Tavira Gardens we always used a local taxi firm (Cesar) to go back and forth into town. Very cheap and reliable service well worth using if you have young children. There are two beaches in the area but we didn't explore them as they weren't on the door step, if we had stayed an extra week then maybe we would have visited them. There are two supermarkets in walking distance of the apartment, transport to them is not necessary. Communication from Di and Terry has been great. It was lovely to receive a telephone call from Di the night before we went. Useful to clarify a few details about the apartment and transfer from the airport. All in all it was an easy, relaxing, stress free holiday. What more can you ask for!

Wonderful apartment

Just back from two weeks in this apartment and had a wonderful time. The apartment was spacious clean and had everything you might need and more. The kitchen has a juicer coffee maker and toaster so we were well set up for breakfast every day. The balconies were great for a spot of sunbathing or sitting in the shade reading and having a cold glass of wine/beer. The larger pool was lovely and clean with plenty of beds and there were pool bed cushions to take down too :-) Great staff at the cafe/bar who were very helpful with directions etc. 20 minuted walk into the centre of Tavira where there were loads of really good restaurants and places to potter. This was our first trip (me and my 17yr old son) to Portugal and we were pleasantly surprised at how laid back and relaxing it was, everyone really friendly and the food was great. Big thanks to Di and Terry for sharing their lovely apartment :-)

Having travelled extensively, we immediately knew that Tavira is perfect for us - historic, elegant, quaint and unspoilt – a typical Portuguese town with cobbled streets, eighteenth century houses, interesting shops and a wide variety of restaurants and street cafes, some overlooking the river. We love the Eastern Algarve – quite different from the commercialisation and over-development West of Faro, but with lots to do for everyone, whatever their age or interests. Tavira is very convenient, being 30 minutes from Faro airport. Also, the weather is perfect, having a longer season than many Mediterranean resorts.

Also Nora Velha Restaurant 500m at 25 Metres Nearest Beach : Small quiet local beaches + Ihla de Tavira at 3 Kilometres Car: not necessary

Coast/Beach:

The coastline of Tavira forms part of the Ria Formosa Nature Reserve, which is renowned for its birdlife and wildlife. The long, sandy beach of Ilha de Tavira is reached by a short ferry ride from Tavira, and Barri beach by miniature railway. There are restaurants and cafes, and sunloungers and umbrellas are available to hire. Lifeguards are present. There are many other quiet beaches to the East of Tavira, stretching towards the Spanish border.

Travel:

Faro airport is approx 30km away. Taxis are readily available and are metered. The journey by motorway to Tavira Garden takes about 30 minutes and costs around 35 euros. All the major car hire agents are available at the airport, though it is cheaper to book in advance. We can advise you on this. Tavira railway station links with Faro, and other parts of Portugal, and buses serve a wide area, including Spain.

Distances:

There is a supermarket just a few minutes walk from Tavira Garden, a shopping mall nearby and more shops, cafes and bars about 700 metres away. The town of Tavira is a short walk away. Small fishing villages such as Santa Luzia, Cabanas and Fuzeta are 5 – 10 minute’s drive or a bus or train ride. The villages of the Serra do Caldeirao are a few kilometers north in the hills, among almond and citrus groves.

Further Details:

Elegant, picturesque Tavira is described as the most unspoilt town of the Algarve. It dates back to around 2,000 BC, and is built on both sides of the River Gilao, with its Roman bridge, 18th century houses, a Moorish castle, and historic churches. Tavira has an air of unhurried charm, where you can stroll through the narrow cobbled streets. There are numerous pavement cafes and restaurants, some overlooking the river, some in tree-lined squares, and many scattered around the town.

Fishing is an important industry, and there is a daily market selling beautifully fresh fish, meat, fruit, vegetables and dairy produce. There are large, modern supermarkets, internet cafés, banks with cash points, a tourist office, post office and a wide variety of shops.

A 50% deposit is payable at the time of booking, with the balance due 8 weeks before the arrival date. Should the booking be made less than 8 weeks before arrival, the full amount will be payable. Changeover Day:
The preferred changeover day is Saturday, but this is very flexible. Where cleaning is necessary between bookings, guests will need to check out by 10.00am and check in after 2.00pm

Many further suggestions have been contributed by our Guests. Tavira Garden is a unique complex with individually designed apartments and villas, some residential, some rented. Its extensive gardens are beautifully maintained . Our apartment is in a perfect position in a quiet cul-de-sac with panoramic views from our two very large terraces. It is our second home so we have spent a great deal of time and care making it as comfortable and well equipped as possible. What sets it apart from most other apartments are the two unusually large private terraces which give you the choice of full sun or breezy shade, throughout the day.

Notes:

  • Notes on accommodation: The apartment is in a perfect position on the complex, being situated in a quiet, mainly residential cul-de-sac. What sets it apart are the two exceptionally large private terraces leading from the lounge and from both bedrooms. All our guests have commented on how much they appreciate being able to choose sun or cool breezy shade, whatever the time of day. The terraces are fully equipped with tables and chairs, sunloungers and sunshades, and a barbecue. The biggest terrace has a large awning. In addition, there is an extensive roof terrace which is shared with two other apartments. The apartment is on the second floor and has open, unobstructed views. The air conditioners also act as heaters, so with additional oil-fillled radiators, the apartment is well equipped for both summer and winter. We regret that pets are not allowed. Please smoke outside on the terraces, not in the apartment. Outside: The complex has two large pools, and two children’s pools. There is an excellent tennis court (the apartment has its own racquets and balls), a well-equipped gym and a children’s playground. The restaurant has indoor and outdoor dining facilities, a barbecue area, an inside bar and a poolside bar. Some of these facilities have limited opening during the low season. Wifi is available in the restaurant and in reception. Overall, Tavira Garden gives a feeling of relaxed, spacious, leafy lanes with many residential villas and properties as well as rented apartments. There are extensive, well-kept gardens with a wide range of plants and trees which attract a variety of birds including hoopoes. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: The apartment is cleaned once a week. Bedding and bathroom towels are changed weekly. If required. additional towels, bedding and cleaning can be arranged for an additional charge. Other: Two exceptionally large, private terraces, with patio furniture and barbecue. Both have unobstructed, open views.
