We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to this beautiful, but less familiar corner of Italy. The villa is perfectly clean, spacious, well appointed and cared for by the helpful Antonio who, as a lifelong village resident, is also a mine of local information. It's a converted old house, so has distinctive character but has been completely refurbished with a nice spacious modern kitchen/dining area - ideal for family meals.
The location on the outskirts of Castle Frentano is perfect, just 20 minutes or so to the coast and some lovely beaches, coves, gelateria and fish restaurants and a similar distance to the mountains with extensive opportunities for trekking, mountain biking and so on. But if you prefer to relax and enjoy rural Italian life with great local wines and farm produce you would struggle to find a more authentic place. There is a brilliant Conad supermarket just 10 minutes away in Lanciano with everything from electrical goods to an unexpected sushi bar (!) but we shopped mostly in Castel Frentano itself, experiencing the delights of the grocery store, the baker on the main street (delicious pizza slices for a picnic) and Antonio the butcher's. And don't forget to try the local sweet cake delicacies - Bocconotto, fantastico! We only had a few days to explore, but there is so much to see in the local area - from picture perfect hilltop medieval towns to immaculate war graves, endless beaches and rugged mountains. This is Italy, unmistakable, timeless, beautiful, hospitable.
