Villa in Grand Village Plage - 10 Minute Cycle to 10km long Sandy Beach

Pine Villa was renovated and extended so that it can accommodate 2 families or a group of friends in real comfort. Its cul-de-sac location means it is safe and quiet but also ideally placed for venturing to the beach and into the forest. With both large dining room and lounge as well as 2 terraces it never feels cramped even when fully occupied. The kitchen is spacious and well-equipped and there are plenty of toilets and shower facilities.

Activity and Interests

Car: recommended


The nearest beach is a 20 min walk/10 min cycle or 2 min drive away. There is also a 'train' from the end of the road to the beach. This is a surfers playground with great waves and plenty of space (12km long). There are beaches galore on the Island, reachable by car or bicycle, on either the open west coast or sheltered east side.


La Rochelle airport is just 55 mins drive away and Bordeaux airport is approx 2 hours. The nearest ferry port is St Malo (4½ hours).


Grand Village Plage centre is less than 10 mins walk and there is a footpath starting near the house. St Trojan is a 15 min cycle (5 min drive) and Le Chateau is a 25 min cycle (much along a dedicated cycle path) and 10 min drive.

Further Details:

A very adequate (Super U) supermarket is found in the middle of Grand Village where there is also a cash point machine, tourist office, bike hire and other shops and several restaurants. There is a fine restaurant in Petit Village (5 mins walk) where there is also a weekly produce market. Le Chateau has a daily produce market and a weekly general market. There is a surf school on the nearby beach and opportunities to play golf, horse ride, sail and fish elsewhere. If you have never tried oysters, here is the place to do so (cheap and wonderful), washed down with the local Pineau wine. Rochefort, La Rochelle and royan are all nearby.
