About the Owner

2005

We moved to France in 2003 and have spent 7 years renovating our property. Simon was a manager with Reed in London and Paulette was a Director of QS plc, near Brighton. We decided to leave the UK, our very hectic lifestyles, to try and spend as much time as we could with our 2 children; who were 6 and 4 when we moved; while they still wanted to spend time with us! We have less money now but are free to do what we want when we want. We don't regret a single day here and we appreciate how lucky we are to be able to spend this time together. We love it here and are very surprised to find we have no desire to return to the UK and neither do the kids! In the winter we ski and in the summer we spend days at the beach.

All of the activities we recommend we have tried during our time here - tree climbing, water sports, motor sports, rugby, and of course wine tasting!

2016.

Well as it's over 12 years ago that I first wrote this, I thought a quick update might be called for! Our 2 boys have grown, the eldest is now 20 and studying at Loughborough and the second is soon to be 18 & is also planning to head to the UK for Uni.

Simon has started a new business which involves lots of foreign travel and a reawakening of his business brain!

Life at home remains a pleasure, the gardens are maturing and we are all fluent. No plans to move back to the UK still, although I'd like to join Simon in his travels a little more!

Surprisingly we now have regular winter lets, so have fully insulated and installed large log burners in 2 of the gites. We have updated gites 1 & 2, and all 4 have been redecorated, as indeed has the pool area. We have built a childrens play area, playhouse & sandpit. We have a regular customer base, who return each year. which is lovely as they have become good friends. We have found that the people that are drawn to book our property have a similar out look on life as us which has lead to some very convivial summers! Life is good!

Another fabulous holiday with Simon and Paulette!

Another fabulous holiday with Simon and Paulette!

Our family of 2 adults and 4 children (12,9,6 and 3yrs old) spent another glorious 3 week holiday in Le Prielle this summer (August 2015). Beautifully peaceful - or as peaceful as it gets with 4 children! - in an idyllic location. On our arrival late in the evening we were met by Paulette who suggested the kids go straight to the pool with her, needless to say they didn’t need to be asked twice. The weather was lovely which gave us the opportunity to relax in the garden, wander through the orchard and over-feed the tolerant hens. Lots of out-door games for the kids including a newly built wooden house which was a great thrill – well done Simon! Hours of fun on the swings not to mention the very many afternoons spent in the pool. We were a little more adventurous this year and took several day trips – there is an endless list of places to see. As always Simon and Paulette go well beyond the call of duty to make a holiday here a really special one. We will definitely be back!

Great holiday, beautiful location - so peaceful & quiet.

Pools were fantastic, a really family friendly place with plenty of things for the kids to do at the play areas & with the rugby posts..

Wine & food spot on.

Hosts even drove us to & from restaurant & around a couple of chai's so we could do some quality wine tasting!!

Rebooked for summer 2016 as we left - looking forward to it already!

Booked a gite for my daughter and family as we have a house nearby. Beautiful location very peaceful with good quality facilities. Owners are very accommodating. Good sized pool with paddling pool for toddlers. Would definitely recommend if you would like to get away from it all for a few days.

Très agréable séjour au milieu des vignes

  • 4 of 5

Très agréable séjour dans un gite spacieux et agréable, le calme au milieu des vignes.

Nous avons profité de la piscine, ma petite fille a aimé les petits jeux et les poules... et bien sûr nous avons apprécié la gentillesse de nos hôtes.

We had a wonderful stay at Le Prielle. Upon arriving after a long journey in an Austin Healey, we were greated by Paulette with a lovely cup of tea in the kitchen. After we had rested from our journey, we were shown to our accomadation. The gite was clean and contained all that was needed for a comfortable stay. We had pre ordered food for the fridge as well as a meal to be served in our gite during the evening. The meal was delicious and the fridge was well stocked as pre arranged. Paulette and Simon were gracious hosts and were always there when we needed them. I had a problem with a tooth and Paulette arranged a dental appointment with her dentist the next day. We had safe parking for the Austin Healey and felt free to do any work on the car at any time. The location was great for visiting many interesting villages, restuarants and vineyards. The swimming pool was well kept and there was internet connection. We were invited to watch Simon and Paulette's son play rugby which was exciting, almost as good as American football. We hope to revisit with our family in the future. I think anyone reading this will know that we certainly recommend Le Prielle

Location

From the Owner

We love Madiran - it is a small pretty village, in between the mountains and the coast. The house is right in the middle of the vines. There's loads of space and its very quite and peaceful. The heated pools look towards the mountains - you can swim while looking at the snow. We spent 3 years trying to find a property in France - and looked at hundreds of places - but bought Le Prielle as we fell in love with it at first sight, meaning our original budget had to be "tinkered with!" Although it's remote, we still have a very active social life with Fetes, tennis club, SAMBO, tournaments, art classes and rugby at weekends. We have integrated well into the French life, making friends easily with other parents, as we all speak French, although the kids are much better than us! Simon was voted on to the local council - which involves us in many local activities. There lots going on all year round for all ages. Paulette was on the village school PTA and has taken groups of children back to the UK including 3 "class de decouverts" she runs a weekly Art Workshop. Simon has taken 2 rugby tours to the UK & Ireland.

Facilities

From the Owner

Peace, calm and space. A real rural retreat providing time & space to enjoy your family, with mod-cons when you need them. The home and gardens are immense, with so much space for everyone. The evening silence, sitting sipping wine as the sun sets & the stars appear is always a joy. The unspoilt night sky enables fabulous views of the Milky Way and is constant wonder. We like to come back from an evening out, uncork a red & just lie on the grass gazing at the stars,, its quite unbelievable and something we could never have seen in Sussex & something you never tire of looking at! We have found the time to do those things we really want to do, but seldom have time to do. It's a special place that brings you back on touch with nature, family and what's really important in life. A very beautiful part of rural France.
