Tavira Garden is a small exclusive holiday complex where all the apartments are privately owned and furnished to a high standard. The Gardens are beautifully kept with an impressive array of palm, carob and olive trees surrounded by an assortment of shrubs and flowers. It is a quiet and green oasis to enjoy with the family or relax and listen to the great selection of birds. There are two adult and two children's swimming pools, tennis court and gymnasium. The main reception area incorporates a bar and restaurant.

This is a lovely, well-equipped apartment with lots of natural light from windows on three sides. It's only a few steps away from one of the complex's swimming pools. It has everything you need and is comfortable, clean and nicely decorated.

It's a 5 minute cab ride or a 20 minute gentle stroll down to Tavira town centre which is charming and uncrowded, with lots of pretty squares, immaculately maintained public areas and a huge choice of cafes, bars and restaurants in which to while away your time.

Tavira's beach is reached by a brief ferry service from the centre of town and it's well worth the effort. Golden sandy beaches, gently shelving into crystal clear water are paired with loungers, cushions and a beach umbrella (€10 per day for two persons) and there are also several bars and restaurants from which to choose.

As far as restaurants are concerned, we'd recommend “O Castelo” as the best we tried, absolutely the finest steak we've ever eaten. This is at the top of Rua da Liberdade, just past the Post Office.

We also liked the “Restaurante Nora Velha” very close to Tavira Gardens (turn left out of complex entrance, walk down to roundabout, turn left there and up the hill for 200 yards). Great fish, unbelievably good house red (€7/btl) and friendly staff.

Away from Tavira, in Santa Luzia, you must go to “Alcatruz”, a small family run place which again serves wonderful local food at reasonable prices.

Avoid “A Ver Tavira” near the Castle in Tavira, it's over priced and we were hugely disappointed. Nice view though, so maybe visit them for a pre-dinner drink and then go down to O Castelo!

Lastly, we must mention our delightful hosts, Sean and Elaine who own this apartment (and one other). They were extremely helpful, welcoming and hospitable and even asked us to join them for dinner during our stay. They were great company and I would strongly urge you to rent one of their lovely apartments.

We'll definitely be back!

Activity and Interests

Coast/Beach:

Tavira's beach (Ilha de Tavira) can be reached by a short 10 minute boat trip and is accessible all year round.

The small fishing village of Cabanas is 2km and is reached by small boat with a charge of 70cents.

Manta Rota beach is 8km away but the beach is easily assesible. You can drive almost on to the beach.

Travel:

Faro Airport is 30mins drive (€40 £28 by taxi).

Lisbon Airport 3-4 hours drive.

Seville Airport ( Spain) 2-3 hrs drive.

Car hire is recommended from the airport as you can save the above taxi fares.

Further Details:

The beautiful, traditional, Roman Town of Tavira is just 1km away. Plenty of restaraunts and bars ( one night clubs) and the majority of people in the town are Portuguese. Tourists have not quite taken over this beautiful Portuguese town which its famouse for its Roman Bridge, numerous churches and as a local fishing port.

While fresh fish is readily available everywhere, there is also a great selection of local dishes of Beef, Pork and Lamb.

There are two modern supermarket in Tavira with similar products to UK.

There are many small shops, some within 500mtrs from Tavira Garden, but they do not all speak English.

Late flights- The office for your keys is manned until 6 pm. If you plan to arrive after this time there is a charge of £20 upon booking.
