About the property

Villa in Villamblard, Dordogne, France - Peaceful Location, 5 Minutes Walk To Village

La Petite Foret is a spacious comfortable 5 bedroom house. Set in two acres of private enclosed grounds, with mature trees bordered by a stream, leading into woodland. It has a large circular private pool, BBQ and table tennis, making this delightful house an ideal retreat for families wishing to unwind and relax. La Petite Foret nestles in the South West corner of the Perigourd Pourpre, betwixt the towns of Bergerac and Perigueux both of which offer a good selection of restaurants, bars and shops. Bergerac, famous for its wine grapes offers some of the best wines. The local cusiine includes truffles and foie gras and is noted for its rich goose and duck dishes. Named after one of France's longest and most beautiful rivers, the Dordogne is celebrated for its lush woodland, rolling green countryside and fertile valleys, and offers some of the best landscape scenery in France.

Guestbook comments from the manager

• On behalf of all of us, I would like to thank you for letting us stay at your 'Chateau' We loved just lazy days around the pool with the children running in the garden. Had a lovely lunch at the local bar and made friends with 'Gerard'the cat and 'Schewps' the dog. We didn't go out much as we wanted to just relax and your house provided the perfect environment.

• Great house for completely chilling out/ - The facilities were superb, from the extremely comfortable beds to the table tennis, badminton and roller skates.

• Fab house brilliant pool/ garden perfect for croquet, petanque, footbal, frisby, chip'n'put and general messing about in the lovely sunshine.

• Had a very pleasant stay in this 'Chateau' /played ping-pong, badminton and enjoyed the pool - Especially enjoyed the garden, secluded, with sun & shade as you wish.

• We had a lovely stay here, the children enjoyed the garden and the pool so lots of relaxing in the sun - daily crossants and baguettes from the village were a real treat.

Thank you....

• We have had a wonderful stay at La petite foret. Thank you for all the opportunities for organised fun - including table tennis, badminton and roller blades. It was great having our own pool.

The house is lovely and exactly what we were after,

• Thank you very much. We had a wonderful stay at La Petite Foret, loved the house, garden and pool and the bar in Villamblard! Weather was fab. We certainly do feel relaxed and refreshed.

• Tad & Rieko Japan It was like being in heaven! The house was perfect for us We enjoyed cheese, bread, pate, wine, fruits and vegetables. Thank you for letting us stay in this gorgeous house.

• Kids comments...

I loved staying here and i enjoyed the pool and the garden and I loved playing badminton and playing on the pogo stick but I didn't like bugs! (Heidi 9)

I really enjoyed staying in the amazing house. I played badminton when it was sunny....and we a went in the great pool! Thank you for an incredible time. (Claudia)

(Lloyd 8) says - he has learnt to "bomb" into the pool and has improved his swimming and can now swim 10 metres - he enjoyed the shower a lot!

(Carys 6) says she learnt to swim for the first time and can now swim across the pool - also enjoyed playing hide and seek.

Louis said, Love your pool and beds

Darcy : The house is wonderful we will definitely be back, loved the pool and all the activities, muchley appreciated.

• The villa was lovely, really really good - and just as nice as it looked in the photos! The downstairs kitchen is great, really handy to have it right on the back of the house near the pool and everything. The pool is lovely, as are the grounds."

• La petite foret is really well thought out as a holiday let with the large downstairs dining room/kitchen and the comfortable outdoor living. We found lots of good walks in the forest, and excellent simple restaurants nearby and splashed out at Manzac at the Lion D'Or for our last outing.

A picturesque idyll on the banks of the Dordogne

  • 5 of 5

As the large iron gates open onto the drive of La Petite Foret symmetrical firs line your passage into this quintessential French Maison.

Bright white French windows stare out of the beautiful, ivy covered brickwork, conveying the vast amount of light this impeccable home lets in.

I came out here for my 28th birthday with my incredible girlfriend, who arranged it as a surprise, and a few other couples, every one of which looks forward to returning.

On top of the comfort of the house with large double bedrooms, large kitchens and a huge sitting room, highlights include the circular swimming pool, surrounded by the beautiful well maintained and expansive grounds themselves.

The back door patio features a large BBQ where we cooked delicious meals with local produce and herbs picked from the garden. Dinners lasted anywhere between 2-6 hours as sunsets turned to star filled skies with Orion's belt reminding us to loosen our own.

We made a thirty minute drive to a charming piece of river where we rented canoes for the day. We literally watched the world drift by as the sun sparkled off the calm waters. We pulled over for a packed lunch of freshly baked bread and sublime cheese bought from the Villamblard tabac. We washed this down with a glass of crisp white wine we let cool in the waters as we ate.

The numerable activities available in the surrounding area offer the adventure of Asterix and Obelix alongside the calm domesticity of Madeline, as you feel both at home and away at the same time. As I whiled away long summer afternoons, almost getting lost in the large grounds whilst reading poetry and conversing with loved ones, time seemed at a standstill: as if this summer dream would never end - only all to be over far too soon.

I look forward to returning with my family next summer to melt back into the state of calm abandon I felt here and explore everything else this region has to offer.

Great time in a nice property

  • 5 of 5

Our two families, with 5 children, have spent a great time in La Petite Forêt. The house is beautiful, the garden and woods incredible, and the pool met all the children's expectations! The villa is very well equipped. The little village of villamblard is adorable and we have discovered the "guinguette" near the lake of Neufont near Vergt, where we have spent a great evening with a band playing and us dancing. I would recommend the place without hesitating.

Lovely week in the Dordogne

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in this lovely house a few weeks ago. Three families (and a dog) with kids from age 6 to 14. The house was clean and spacious and comes with two kitchens, so plenty of cooking equipment etc. The garden is lovely and the pool is huge. We didn't have great weather so we went out a fair bit. Lots of lovely towns and villages to visit and bike around. There is also a table tennis table in the garden which was great. The local tennis courts are literally next door and you can pay as you go or get a weekly pass. The booking and all related admin went smoothly and Carole and Sally (in France) were quick to respond to any queries we had. All in all a great holiday. Thank you!

We had a Great Time

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time staying at Lapetite Foret. The garden was fab for the children, but in May the pool was too cold for the adults, although the children didn't think so. The little village is so quaint and friendly, ideal for fresh bread and groceries etc and there is a local bar about 10 mins walk.

So much to do when you want to but brilliant just for lazing around or playing tennis. Thanks so much

'A grande time had by all!!

  • 5 of 5

Spent lazy days relaxing around the pool, whilst the enclosed gardens provided the children with adequate space to play badminton, table tennis, boules etc. and heaps of fun exploring.

The house was perfect for us and provided us with all we needed for a great family holiday, a good location for sightseeing and some excellent restaurants nearby.'
