La Capanna was recently converted from an old agricultural building. As with the main house, all traditional Tuscan materials were used.
The living/dining room has a superb view into the mountains and has a large fully equipped kitchen area. It also contains a very good double sofa-bed.
The master bedroom has a large double bed and a second bedroom has 2 single beds. There is ample cupboard and drawer space.
The large bathroom contains a shower, WC, bidet and hand basin.
There is off-street parking.
The large garden, with superb views up into the mountains, has flowers, lawns, pergolas, terraces with tables for outdoor eating and BBQ’s. There are and lots of quiet corners, seats and sun loungers.
Set in a small hamlet with spectacular views into the beautiful Pratomagno Mountains, the property includes an old house 'La Villetta', and a separate cottage 'La Capanna'.
LA CAPANNA is on a single floor, and sleeps up to six people in two bedrooms and a very comfortable sofa-bed in the large sitting/dining-room/kitchen. It is very well equipped and has off-street parking.
LA VILLETTA contains, on the ground floor, a bedroom, a sitting/dining-room/kitchen and a bathroom. The first floor is exactly the same, but the sitting room, with its excellent double sofa-bed, can easily function as another bedroom. In total the house can be said to have three double bedrooms, and including two single folding beds La Villetta can accommodate up to eight people.
La Villetta may also be divided into TWO APARTMENTS, fully self contained, with separate entrances, each sleeping up to four people. If the door at the bottom of the stairs is unlocked it gives movement throughout the whole house, making it ideal for two families or groups wanting to holiday together. The PRICES shown are for just ONE apartment; for the whole house simply multiply prices by two, and deduct 10%.
BOTH HOUSES have recently been renovated so as to retain a traditional Tuscan character, and both have air conditioning and all necessary domestic facilities: fridge, freezer, washing machine, etc.
THE LARGE GARDEN with superb views up into the mountains has flowers, lawns, pergolas, terraces with tables, BBQ’s, and lots of quiet corners.
The property is near the country town of Reggello, about 35km south-east of Florence, in the direction of Arezzo (about 50km). This is classic rural Tuscany - old stone buildings and lines of cypress trees scattered amongst olive groves, and vineyards. The mountains offer superb scenic walks, and there is easy access by rail or motorway to Florence, Arezzo, Siena and beyond. The nearby village has excellent restaurants, bars, shops and banks, and the local town has many more facilities. There is enough to do on holiday here to keep you happy for a lifetime!
I'm Gwyn Pritchard, a professional composer (classical) and a professor of composition at Trinity Laban Conservatoire, London. My wife Claudia is a singer and singing teacher. We are currently in our sixties and getting younger every year!!
Italy is obviously a passion, which is why we bought our property there. However, we love travel, not only to our Italian retreat or for concerts of my music in various countries, but also (when time and circumstances permit) to India, the far east and other far-off corners of the globe.
Other passions we share include painting and sculpture, the theatre, good wine, 'cycling and above all each other people's company.
We have two adult daughters - one a composer like her father, the other an actress (who you may well have seen on the TV).
Gwyn Pritchard purchased this cottage in 1980
We chose La Villetta when we were looking for a place near Florence where we had many friends and so visited the area often. When we saw the stunning setting of the property we had no doubt it was the place for us, especially as it is ideally located for easy access to everywhere we wanted to visit, as well as for all the things we like to do.
When the neighbouring house, La Capanna, came on the market we bought it both to guarantee the continued privacy and tranquility of La Villetta and also to enjoy it's extensive garden.
We never cease to be amazed by the sheer beauty of the mountains behind the property, especially the ever-changing light on the trees, which we can enjoy whilst sitting or dining in the large garden. The mountains offer some of the best walking in Tuscany, but for anyone who wants less strenuous activity there are numerous artistic and architectural delights locally, or excellent restaurants serving delicious local fare. The wines and oils from this area are world renown and can be bought directly from the producers.
I must say that we had the most wonderful time at ‘La Capanna’, so relaxing and quiet – exactly what we expected. We slotted straight into local life – early morning walk to the fruit and veg. shop in Cascia, buy some great produce, back to the villa, lunch outdoors, glass of wine, read a book in the sunshine, cook dinner, more wine and relax listening to music - BLISS. Thanks very much for the opportunity of sharing your holiday home, making a great holiday for my wife and I. We will certainly consider a return visit in the not too distant future.

We, and some friends, rented both houses, La Capanna and La Villetta, and both of them were well equipped, clean and suited us perfectly. We basked in the early autumn sun in the beautiful gardens, looking up into the amazing view of the Pratomagno Mountains; we visited Florence, Siena, Arezzo and no end of gorgeous little villages in the area near Reggello. We also ate and drank (a bit too much!) in five or six of the local restaurants. In short we couldn't have asked for more!!
A simple but charming retreat in nestled in the Tuscan hills - the garden is lovely and the views amazing. This place has everything you need for a wonderful holiday and the views are glorious. Lots of helpful information provided by the owners and guest books full of tips from the many visitors that have stayed here over the years.
We absolutely LOVED our stay here. The house was clean and comfortable and brilliantly equipped with everything you need for your stay. The views are amazing and the local town has great restaurants and a fab ice cream shop! We have already booked to go back!
I wanted a place that would be inspiring, beautiful, quiet, and made it easy for me and my wife to go to Florence, Siena and lots of other places, to see all the numerous things that there are to do and see in this wonderful corner of Europe. Well, La Capanna exceeded my expectations - it was fantastic!! The house itself was clean, comfortable and very well equipped (my wife loves to cook Italian style, and the oil from this part of Italy is among the best in the world - or at least, so the locals say!), but the real joy was the big garden which has stunning views into the mountains. The other great joys of the area included fabulous walks and a huge choice of really good local restaurants. I could go on forever - but I'll certainly go back to La Capanna.
