Inside, it’s very comfortable as it is our well-loved holiday home (much tidier than our main home though!) and it has been furnished to a high standard with a mix of antique furniture, comfortable sofas, big rugs and original stone floors. A charming stay in an old Normandy farmhouse

We have just returned on Friday 26th August from a divine relaxing rest in the past of old Normandy which perfectly describes our all too short stay in Le Gaillon. It is a delightful old property in gorgeous, lawned and very secluded private grounds all kept in an original farmhouse style. We were blessed with lovely sunny weather dividing our time between the well equipped kitchen and eating outside, lounging, reading and supping wine under the trees. Upstairs was bright and open plan with views to the garden, loads of room, beds at either end and a common living area on the landing. We had a king size bed which was very comfortable. The shower room was clean and had plenty of hot water with another loo downstairs. We loved that it was used as a family home and books and memorabilia were left for us to enjoy.

If you love rural France then Le Gaillon is a perfect traditional taste of this beautiful region and we just loved it and will definitely go again. Thank you Paul and Aysen.

Perfect Normandy Escape!

My family and I have recently enjoyed our third visit to Le Gaillon. We had not been back since 2010 and were so delighted to find the house was just as we remembered it. We had recommended it to friends who joined us this time around and all 7 of us were very comfortable! The house is in the perfect position with a stunning vista of the exquisite French countryside, views as far as the eye can see, and totally private. If you are looking for 5 star luxury, thats not what this house is about. It has the feel of home, with cosy fireplaces, eclectic furnishings and genuine atmosphere. It benefits from a new WC and shower room upstairs, as well as a bathroom downstairs. No bath, but deliciously hot showers upstairs and down. The large open plan area upstairs has fantastic views and exposed A frame timbers which again adds to the atmosphere of this house. It has some small imperfections, the front door is tricky to open, mattresses a bit squeaky, but that is what we love about it, it is a genuine home. The kitchen is very well equipped with plenty of plates, cutlery and utensils (lacking in other properties) and of course the all important dishwasher! I love the fireplace in the kitchen, again adding to the atmosphere and in addition this fireplace heats the whole house if you open the vents, so it is warm and cosy in the colder months. We have experienced all weathers at Le Gaillon, When the sun shines, the south facing terrace is a real sun trap! There is a huge lawn with plenty of space for children to run around. There is a dairy farm at the top of the lane, and we were able to get the freshest milk (still warm!), plus eggs and gorgeous cheeses.

If you are looking for the perfect retreat, this is it. Inspiring landscape, pure peace (with the sound of the odd tractor), a place to enjoy all year round, then try Le Gaillon. There, now I have given away my best secret!! I must also mention, Aysen, the owner, is lovely and helpful too!

Welcoming cottage in idyllic surroundings

We thoroughly enjoyed our four days stay at Le Gaillon.

The house was clean and well furnished with very comfortable beds. Sitting in the peaceful garden looking at graving cows felt restful and serene. We stayed with our teenaged boys and had great fun playing card in the evenings by the wood burner in the cosy kitchen...we would happily visit again!

Quirky House and Wonderful Location

I'm not sure Normandy is normally so sunny but we had gorgeous Mediterranean temperatures which allowed us to enjoy the house to it's full potential. With all our meals outside under the wonderful trees looking over the hills and fields and talking to the neighbouring cows. The house is quirky and charming and it's perfectly situated for all the best bits of the area.

It's well worth popping next door to the farm for fresh cheese and milk and yogurts. And they let our 2 year old watch the cows being milked too.

A great house and one of our favourite holidays in a long time. We would certainly return.

Comfortable and Relaxing

We totally enjoyed our stay at Le Gaillon. Husband and I went with sister and brother-in-law - plenty of space for us to be separate when needed. House is comfortably furnished and well equipped - better equipped than most - grounds are lovely. Loved the sun loungers! Looked them up online to find some for us. Peaceful, large garden in the countryside - pretty cows next door. Farm produce nearby a bonus - Rhubarb farm fabulous and Cidre/Calvados products nearby are wonderful. The owners' description of their property and the area is accurate and very detailed. They obviously care about their guests. It's like borrowing a friend's house. There are some good restaurants around and some lovely sightseeing with pretty villages, forests and fields. A day trip to the coast is easy. I will definitely be recommending Le Gaillon to friends and we plan to return. The owners were extremely helpful with any and all enquiries about ferries, timings, places to see etc. Very good value all round!

Travel:

2 hours drive from Calais/Boulogne, 35 minutes drive from Dieppe, 60 minutes drive from Paris Charles de Gaulle airport.

Use of car is essential.

Due to an arrangement with DFDS Ferries, we are be able to offer our guests fully flexible return ferry fares from Dover-Calais for the special fare of just £38 RETURN for a car + 4 passengers. (except Easter, Whitsun and Sat/Sun in July/August).

Distances:

1.5km from village, 10km from nearest town (Forges-les-Eaux). This delightful spa town has pretty lakes and woodland walks, a smart Casino (very popular with Parisians as it is only 70 miles from Paris and open every night until 5am), the luxury Forges Hotel with its health spa (daily membership is available for the gym, pool, sauna and various thalassotherapy seaweed treatments), fishing, tennis, and an indoor/outdoor pool, as well as a selection of restaurants, bars and a weekly market.

  • Notes on accommodation: Children: Please note that although we welcome guests of all ages, there are a couple of points which parents of very young children should be aware of: there are no stairgates (due to the layout of the staircase it has been impossible to install one), the house has 2 showers but no bath tub (although we do have a baby bath for very young babies), and there are no cupboard locks in the kitchen. We want you to be able to relax when you come here and this may prove difficult if you have very young active toddlers… Outside: Large enclosed garden (3000 sq.m.). Table tennis, table football, barbecue, boules etc. Utility Room: Washing Machine, Tumble dryer, extra fridge/freezer. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Bed linen, towels and final cleaning included. Other: Dining room with large oak refectory table seating 8.
