Ma home in Ma Partilha

Seven years ago I randomly contacted Carol Harvey at Owners Direct to hire her apartment at Ma Partilha. Unfortunately it was already booked but she offered me her private Villa at Porches as an alternative. That offer was a Godsend, and, as a result me my wife, all three married children and five grandchildren have visited Carol's properties, at least twice a year since.

The apartment, is superb and has everything you need. It has become our home from home in the glorious Portuguese sunshine. It is always spotless when you arrive, and is spacious and comfortable with a massive TV, Games console, DVD player, games, Library, air conditioning, etc.

It is perfectly located midway between Alvor and Portimao and only minutes from the beach, The Alto Golf course and numerous restaurants.

If you prefer to eat in, local Supermarkets include Continente, Pingo Doce, Aldi and Lidl. These are perfect haunts for those on a budget and offer quality food and wine at prices competitive with the UK.

There are numerous beaches on The Algarve but my favourite is that in Alvor. For sand and sea holidays this is the ultimate.

By now, you should realise I love everything about this venue. It is perfect for couples and families alike and the gated entry and underground garage gives you peace of mind.

I have thought of buying an apartment in the area, but, why would I when Carol provides the service she does.

I hope that you decide to try the Ma Partilha apartment but, if there are more than 6 of you please consider The Porches villa. Five bedrooms, full sized snooker room, private swimming pool, and a tranquillity that only nature can provide.

I hope this has been of use to all considering a visit to The Algarve.

I am pleased they look on the apartment as there second home in the Algarve and there beds will always be ready for there return. Having stayed at Ma Parthila before (different apartment) we knew the location was ideal for what we wanted, but the apartment was also perfect!

It had wide open spaces and felt massive but also homely. There was plenty of storage in built-in wardrobes and the kitchen was modern and had everything you could need. The lounge was comfortable and the 2 bathrooms were clean and plenty big enough for all 5 of us. The pool is big and clean, and we had it to ourselves nearly all day every day!

The air conditioning units in the apartment are in the lounge and master bedroom, we had it on through the night at the beginning but it can be a little too noisy to sleep, although there are ceiling fans in all rooms which do keep it cool.

The massive TV was a bonus (purely to entertain the toddler while the adults were getting ready), and there's a playstation/DVDs/games if you're that way inclined.

The owner and a cleaner came half way through our trip to clean the apartment, and we returned to it looking immaculate again. While they were there I mentioned about a door handle that had fallen off earlier that day and they fixed it immediately. The owner had also offered to take us to the supermarket on our arrival, which would be very helpful if you are first time visitors or didn't like walking!

The walk into Alvor took abut 30minutes (downhill) which was nice for us as we like a walk (best around 7.30-8 so you can watch the sunset on the village) although some nights we got a taxi back up hill as we have a toddler in the pram - this cost around ?4 (?3.25). If you're planning a trip the restaurants in the village you need to go to include Ruccula, Vagabondo, Piccolo Mondo and Capacho, although there aren't really any bad ones we have found. There is a bakery 2 minutes walk from the apartment where they also do toasties etc which we used for lunch a couple of times, the bread is lovely! The walk to the beach is about 20 minutes, and definitely worth going to.

We did venture to Praia de Rocha one night, but living near Blackpool it was very touristy there and so busy, it was just like Blackpool but warmer. There is a restaurant there called All Beef however, which is definitely worth the trip (?6 in a taxi).

We would definitely recommend this apartment, and will be visiting again in the future. Pleasure doing business with lovely people.

Activity and Interests

Nearest Beach : Alvor and Vau at 1 Kilometres Car: not necessary


It is 15/20 mins walk to the nearest beach (2 minutes in a car) of Praia da Vau famed for the healing properties of its waters (rich in Iodine).

There are other beaches close by including Praia da Germao (I think the most beautiful beach in the Algarve), the beach at Alvor and Praia da Rocha with clubs and casinos nearby.


Faro airport is 45-55 mins away, I recommend car hire so that you can explore the other delights Portugal has to offer.


20 mins walk to the town of Alvor. Recommend the beach and old lifeboat centre at the harbour in Alvor. All cuisine available Indian, Chinese restaurants, bars, pizza.

Further Details:

Restaurant at top of the road. (Big Reds) which serves all top cuisine, steaks, seafood etc. Pizza takeaway and Pastelaria (for hot croissants and superb sandwiches in the morning!) Papershop, internet cafe, and small supermarket at the top of the road. Many cafes, bars and restaurants all within walking distance. Banks, bars etc all in Alvor Town. No smoking apartment. Carnival in Portugal will be 8th March an event not to e missed.

  • Notes on accommodation: This property is the ideal break at any time of year! Central heating, heating via air conditioning or radiators, suitable for everyone including children, older folk etc. There is not direct wheelchair access but this is a ground floor apartment, with very few steps and the apartment right inside the door to the left. If you access the apartment from the underground car park, there is a lift to the ground floor. So no stairs. Outside: Substantial grassed area to front and back - the largest on the complex. Giant sized shared pool with underground toilets and showers. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels and linen changed once per week, cleaning twice per week. Other: All the rooms are decorated to an exceptionally high standard throughout.
