La Caze Gites are located in a small hamlet above the very picturesque Tarn Valley, just 2 minutes away from the pretty village of Broquies in the Parc Naturel Regional des Grands Causses. Broquies has all amenities, including shops, a tennis court and a lively fete in the summer. The larger, bustling town of St Affrique, with its fabulous Saturday market full of regional products, is only 25 minutes away through yet another pretty valley, that of the Dourdou. Views from La Caze Gites are simply breath taking. Our gites are authentically restored from a 19th century Aveyron barn with many original features, but at the same time havng all the comforts of home and facilities such as wifi, satellite TV and DVD player, dishwasher, washing machine, etc. Beds have luxury microfibre toppers and we use Egyptian cotton bed linen. Both gites have their own private south-facing sun terrace over looking the garden and swimming pool (guests enjoy exclusive use of both) with views of approx 40km across the Tarn Valley to the Lacaune mountains. Whilst with us you can choose to simply relax and unwind in beautiful, peaceful, rural surroundings or spend some time sightseeing around the small nearby villages or larger historic towns, such as Albi, Rodez and Millau (home to the now famous viaduct). The stunning Gorge des Raspes du Tarn is literally on the doorstep and there are numerous fortified villages and chateaux to explore in the area. If you are feeling more energetic the area is ideal for walking and other activities such as river and lake swimming, canoeing, cycling, horse riding, parascending and fishing can be enjoyed.
Having had busy careers in hospitality and the public sector in the South East of England we finally realised our dream of living and running a gite business in the south of France in early 2016. We love the relaxed French lifestyle and the slower pace of life. Jon is a trained chef and loves preparing meals using local produce. Having spent several holidays with her French pen friend, Joanne is now happily rekindling her love of the French language. We both enjoy meeting new people and sharing our passion for this stunning area. Every day we marvel at the breath taking views from our property and can't quite believe how lucky we are! We are on hand to give information on the local area and to be of help to ensure that our guests enjoy their holiday to the max - but equally if we are not needed we don't intrude. We love it here at La Caze and we hope you will too!
Joanne Hargreaves and Jon Clements purchased this cottage in 2016
The Aveyron is a hidden gem, full of stunning countryside and pretty towns and villages. It feels off the beaten track but is easily accessible and perfectly placed for a varied holiday with a wonderful climate. The view from La Caze blew us away and we love the old stone buildings and homely feel of the place. Whilst being peaceful and rural La Caze is minutes away from Broquies, a village with numerous facilities, and is situated on a decent 'D' road that takes you along the beautiful Tarn Valley and into larger towns and cities.
Being just outside of the thriving village of Broquies and with others close by, we are able to enjoy the peacefulness and slower pace of country life but not feel isolated. Just 15 minutes to the north is the village of Villefranche de Panat which, like Broquies, has all the daily amenities you will need and more. There is a weekly market, choice of restaurants and large lake where you can swim, sunbathe and hire boats. The nearby villages of Brousse Le Chateau and St Izaire have restaurants and of course each have a chateau to explore. Brousse Le Chateau Is classified as one of the most beautiful villages in France and is indeed a favourite with guests. Then there is always the large swimming pool with the amazing view to come home to!

After a lengthy ten hour journey we had a lovely warm welcome from Jon and Joanne followed by a delicious dinner served to us in our gite, giving us plenty of time to unwind and unpack. The gite itself was spotlessly clean and well presented and had all the accessories required. An added bonus was the more than generous welcome pack especially the cold ones in the fridge!
The pool was superb, we spent many hours by the pool gazing over the awesome view. The children especially enjoyed the night swims, thanks Jon. We enjoyed great BBQ's most evenings.
The location itself offers plenty of places to visit for all ages. We enjoyed the night markets, canoeing, the velo rail and much more all highly recommended by Jon and Joanne.
Jon and Joanne were great host offering us their extensive local knowledge enabling us to explore the region fully. Thanks again.
We had a very enjoyable stay at La Caze Gites. Violette was very comfortable, the pool was lovely with gorgeous views over the valley and our boys much appreciated the table tennis table. Joanna and Jon could not have been nicer or more helpful, even showing us the way to a firework display and night market. Overall, we had a lovely holiday and would have no hesitation in recommending La Caze. Julie and Paul
Thankyou Joanne and Jon for a wonderful fortnight at La Caze - wish we'd booked an extra week!
La Violette was a lovely little gite with all the amenities you could wish for. It was clean, tidy, well laid out with everything we needed for a great start to our holiday - the fridge was stocked ready for breakfast, and the arrival meal was absolutely delicious, so no need for a supermarket shop that day as we arrived fairly late. My 5 year-old son loved his bedroom - the teddies on the bed were a lovely touch that put a smile on his face straight away! There were books and DVDs that went down a treat, too. He also loved the space he had to play football, and appreciated the extra games that Joanne and Jon had provided - he even got pretty good at petanque! The pool was perfect - never got tired of looking at that view, absolutely beautiful - it was certainly a lovely place to come back to at the end of the day and just ...relax.
We found La Caze was very well-placed for excursions to a variety of stunning places. We highly recommend Lac de Paraloup if you have kids of all ages - we spent a few days up there swimming in the lovely water, we hired a small motor boat (with Joanne's help and much better French!!) and explored the whole lake. Best find of all was Grimpe et Cimes, on the road opposite the lake, a kind of Go Ape treetop adventure place that was perfect for our son, but also had lots for older kids/adults too.
The drive along the Raspes du Tarn is a must, with some stunning places to stop along the way - Saint Rome du Tarn is great for hiring canoes and paddling along to, and under, the waterfall. Also highly recommended day trips are the Millau Viaduct and the nearby village of Peyre (for fabulous wild swimming), Brousse le Chateau, Ambialet, Chateau de Montigut and the night market at Coupiac for a real taste of France. It was lovely just to come back to La Caze and laze in the pool whilst the husband sorted the barbecue, and then stare at the stars once it was dark enough - the Milky Way and shooting stars on show without fail!!
Best of all were our hosts, Joanne and Jon - they were there when we needed them, full of great advice and stories to tell, but gave us all the space we needed. Cannot recommend the home-cooked meals enough - wish we'd had more to be honest! They made us feel very welcome and well looked after, and our son would gladly have moved in with them!! Hope to return one day very soon.
Authentic farmhouse gite in rural location with stunning views.Very well equipped and clean and fresh for our arrival. John and Joanne available to give insight into the area and directions and advice as required. Fabulous meal on our first night to help get us settled... Family friendly pool.. our 3 young boys didnt want to leave it... excellent barbeque area and always loads of hot water...wifi excellent, ping pong table, bikes, boules and garden and pool allowed time for relaxing and reading whilst children entertained.
If you're looking for somewhere to stay that's got all the mod cons whilst retaining real French ambience then you have to stay at La Caze Gites. We stayed in Violette and it was gorgeous - clean and full of all the home comforts plus Jon & Joanne (the owners) are so welcoming and nothing is too much trouble, we felt properly spoiled. They even arrange a home cooked meal on arrival if you book in advance at a very reasonable rate which rivalled (if not exceeded) that of any restaurant. In fact we enjoyed it so much that we asked them to do the same for us later on that week.
Another lovely touch is the welcome pack of basic stuff on arrival which is great and saves rushing round trying to find a shop while you're settling in. It really was like home from home (just warmer!)
There's so much to see and do locally, the countryside is stunning, you'll need a car but it's absolutely worth it. In the week we were there, we managed to visit lots of places whilst also spending time relaxing by the pool in the peace and quiet enjoying the surroundings.
The pool was cleaned every day and it was such a treat to come back from a day's sightseeing and be able to jump straight in.
I wouldn't hesitate to recommend a stay there - it's perfect for couples and families alike, in fact, we had such a great time that we're hoping to come back with friends in early October to stay in the bigger gite.
Good gite with amazing views. Excellent pool, cleaned every day and covered at night. Wonderful owners who provided an amazing meal on the first evening (and the last as we enjoyed the first so much). This was at a fair cost. A surprising amount to do in the area at a gentle pace. We were surprised at the beauty of the area. Mustn't miss Albi. We would love to go back one day.
