Treat yourselves to a romantic break - come and see the Eternal City and be sure to have a cosy place to come back to at night. We'd love to welcome you! We are a Scottish Italian family, who meet and greet our guests on arrival and try our best to make you feel at home. We give you ample information on how to get around Rome, which is very easy thanks to the A-line Metro station just outside our front door and many bus stops too. In 10-15 minutes you can reach all the main tourist attractions such as the Colosseum, Spanish Steps, St. Peter's Basilica, Vatican Museum and the entire historic centre. We also show you how to work the various appliances and have a folder full of tourist information and many guide books which you can consult to organise your stay.

Our apartment (6th floor with lift; 700 sq ft - 65 m2), is located in the 'Appio Latino' district, along the Via Appia Nuova (one of the best shopping areas in Rome). We're also close to the Old Appian Way archaeological site with its ruins and catacombs. You'll be living in a typical Roman area and will be able to mix with the locals. You certainly won't regret it. The apartment features: spacious bedroom with king size bed and double glazed window doors opening onto the balcony; large living room with 2 sofas (one of which opens out to a comfortable queen size sofa bed); fully equipped kitchen; bathroom with shower; hall with extra wardrobe; balcony where you can sit at the end of the day with a glass of wine watching the world go by. A/C. Free WI-FI.

Supermarkets, cafés, great variety of shops, restaurants, pizzerias, take-aways, ATMs, etc. nearby. Nature lovers might want to visit the 'Valle della Caffarella' park and Villa Lazzaroni (with a children's playground) for a break from city life. We speak English, Italian and French and just a little German and Spanish.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

How to reach us by public transport:

Either take the Leonardo Express (non stop) train to Termini station (tickets cost 14 euros - children under 12 do not pay), and then the A-line subway (Direzione Anagnina) and get off at the Colli Albani station. When you get out the subway station look out for McDonald's as we're on the same side of the street.

With your back to McDonald's we're to the right at the corner with Via Poggi d'Oro, next to the “Chicken Hut”

take the FL1 train and get off at the Stazione Tuscolana (tickets cost 8 euros; children under 12 don’t pay. Outside the Tuscolana station, walk to the traffic lights, then up Via Gela to the Pontelungo subway station (not even a five minutes walk). Take the subway (Direzione Anagnina) to the Colli Albani station.

Take the Co.tral bus to the Anagnina (tickets cost 1,20 euro). At the Anagnina take the subway to the Colli Albani station.

About Irene

Hi, I'm Irene. I inherited this flat from my parents and am very attached to it. I was born and brought up in Scotland and "brought over" to Italy when my parents retired, but I've been living here a lifetime and now consider Italy as home, although I often think fondly of my childhood in Scotland. It was my sons' idea that I rent this flat out to tourists. I decided to give it a try and have been happily welcoming people from all over the world since August 2006. I would love to welcome you too.

What makes this apartment unique

The flat has a homely atmosphere and is close to everything: supermarkets, bakeries, restaurants, takeaways, "pizzerias and gelaterias", boutiques, banks, car hire, open air fruit and vegetable market, etc. The location is fantastic. From the balcony you have a beautiful view of the hills to the south of Rome and the Via Appia Nuova. The underground stop is right at the doorstep and bus stops too, which means you reach the historic centre in 15 mins and there's no walking to do when you come back at night with weary feet. You will be living in a typically Roman area and be able to mix with the locals. If you get tired of city life and want a breath of fresh air, go and visit the Caffarella Park. It's just short walk away and is the most significant example of ancient countryside in the city.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We enjoyed our stay in this well located and beautifully organised apartment. Irene's attention to her guests' comfort is admirable, as is her attention to detail in the organisation of all aspects of the apartment. We will definitely recommend this lovely place. The apartment (6th floor with lift) is located near the Old Appian Way, in one of the best connected areas of Rome, Appio-San Giovanni. In fact, one of the main assets of the property is that it's right at an A-line Metro stop (Colli Albani). The A-line Metro was built to connect all the main tourist attractions, from the Old Appian Way to the Vatican, so our apartment combines the advantages of an affordable price with easy access to the historical centre. All the major sights can be reached in a few minutes. Buses also widely available. There are 2 supermarkets and a great mix of shops, pharmacies, banks/ATM's, restaurants, pubs, takeaways, pizzerias and gelaterias, all in close proximity. You'll enjoy walking around the adjacent Via Appia Nuova (one of Rome's best shopping streets) and the nearby open air fruit and vegetable market. Nature lovers might want to visit the beautiful "Valle della Caffarella" park and Villa Lazzaroni (with a playground for children) for a break from city life. Changeover cleaning only. One set per person/per week of bed linen and towels included in price. Private balcony where you can relax after a busy day sightseeing.

Outstanding accommodation in great location.

  • 5 of 5

Irene's apartment was our favourite accommodation during our three weeks in Italy. It was very clean, comfortable and spacious with many amenities (including and English news station on TV) and resources. We received a warm welcome with excellent information. The location is seconds away from the Metro which was perfect for getting to all the sites. Also, there are great restaurants and take-outs nearby and grocery stores right across the street (as well as an amazing bakery). A great stay!

The Best Apt. outside the Tourist Area

  • 5 of 5

If you want to have an apartment with all the amenities, and outside of the Rome tourist area, this is the rental for you. I spent a week here and felt very lucky, as this was my first trip to Italy. Irene is a welcoming and very patient host- we were late in our arrival and she stayed and checked us in- and even helped us get euros from the ATM a block away. I like to cook most of my meals in, and the apartment has everything you would want. And it is extremely clean. There is a great grocery across the street called "Elite".In addition, the fold-out sleeper sofa is very comfortable as my husband used it when we were recovering from jetlag.

The balcony has a pretty view to the north of the Colli Albani volcano(I think that's the name of it?)

The Metro is right out the front door- and you can be at the Vatican stops in about 15 minutes and then get out of the tourist hustle and bustle after. My only cautionary note would be for "noise-sensitive" folks. The streets right below the apartment are busy and very noisy. We used earplugs to sleep but that could be because we live in a very remote, rural place.

I have already recommended Irene's lovely apartment to friends and family. If we can return to Rome for another vacation, it will be my first choice for a place to stay.

Owner's Response: Many thanks, Marilyn, for this detailed review. I'm glad you had a good time in our apartment in this beautiful city and appreciated staying in a true Roman neighbourhood away from the touristy area, but only 10 mins away by metro. I would love to see you and Tris again should your travels bring you back this way. A big hug to both of you, Irene

Lovely comfortable apartment in great location.

  • 5 of 5

We stayed 6 nights in this lovely apartment which was spotlessly clean and very comfortable. Beautifully decorated and in first class condition and had everything you needed for a home from home experience. The Metro is literally 2 minutes walk away and there is a fantastic range of local shops and excellent restaurants. The owner Irene provided us with all the information needed for a great holiday in Rome and went out of her way to make us very welcome. Thanks Irene

Lovely apt rental in Rome

  • 5 of 5

Irene was a wonderful host and her apt was just right for the 3 of us; it was well furnished, had a great balcony to enjoy the city, was very well located right down the street from the Metro - so getting around Rome was made easy. Irene was readily available for questions before we arrived and while we were there! She wants all of her guests to be very comfortable and arranged things for us like a car/driver from the airport to her apt. The only negative (and we knew this from another review) was that the apt is located on a very busy street, so quiet nights for sleeping were non-existent, but other than that, it was a great apt and a very comfortable 3-4 days for us while in Rome. Irene - thanks for all of your helpfulness. Your apt was lovely!!!

Owner's Response: Thanks for the lovely review Judy. It was a pleasure to meet you and your family and I'm glad you enjoyed your stay. I'm always happy to arrange anything I can for my guests – it's part of the game. Perfection doesn't exist, but I try my best. Rome's a big city and our apt is located right next to the subway and many bus stops, making it tremendously easy and quick to move around. From the balcony we have a beautiful view of the "Castelli Romani" in the distance. I suppose light sleepers should close the windows overlooking the piazza at night and keep the side street windows open. A big hug to all of you, Irene
