Villa in Montauroux, Var, Provence - Quiet Location on Edge of Village, 5 minute Walk to Village Square

Montauroux is the first of the Esterel Mountain range villages. The village centre is nearby and locally there numerous good walks. There are panoramic views of the Esteral Valley from the house and pool terrace. Cannes, Nice and St. Tropez are all within easy reach as is the Gorge du Verdon. Championship golf at the nearby Terre Blanche Hotel. Water sports, pedaloes and swimming in Lac St Cassien.

Lovely house and view, location in pretty village but also close to coast.

This is the second time we have stayed in this house. Very comfortable,clean and well equipped. Pool area and view of the valley is fantastic. Montaroux is an attractive village with a few shops, including bakery and bars. There was also a small music festival in the week we were staying. Good location for day trips including Cannes, Monaco, Gorge du Verdon, St.Tropez etc but also lots of quieter beaches and coves if you prefer.

During the summer months there are often events and festivals organised in and around Montauroux which are listed in the village 'events magazine'. This is often available at the shops around the village square. Although not big, the village cinema is one of only a handful of cinemas on the Riviera to show English language movies which was great for our kids whose French was rudimentary.

Perfect spot - beautiful views and handy for all amenities

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at your villa. The property had beautiful views overlooking the valley with the mountains and coast in the horizon - close enough even to enjoy some of the fireworks on the french riviera. The property was well equipped with everything you would need - we spent lots of lazy days by the pool just enjoying the views and the peace and quiet. As we were so close to the village square, we normally popped out in the evening for either a drink or a meal out in one of the many little local restaurants. We even walked as far as Callian to visit the restaurant by the church there - highly recommended. We also took trips to Grasse and Fayence and soaked up the french markets and enjoyed a mooch around the shops, and of course several trips to Lac du Cassien, where the kids had a ball on the inflatables and the pedaloes. A fabulous holiday! Thank you so much to Henry and Jeannie for being on hand for advice about markets and where best to go. Highly recommended holiday destination

wonderful location

We had a fantastic stay in Montauroux. The house is very comfortable, clean and well fitted out with everything you need for a great family holiday. The pool is of a very good size - much enjoyed by the children (aged 9 and 6), and the view is stunning - much enjoyed by the parents! The short walk into the village is very pleasant - the village itself is beautiful, quintessentially French and has everything you need for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The neighbouring hilltop village of Callian is a lovely day trip or night out too. And we had a great day at the nearby lake, hiring a fantastic pedalo with built-in slide! I would love to return again in the future and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to friends and family.

Lovely villa in a splendid location

We all had a fabulous week with lovely weather in Montauraux. Henry & Jeannie were extremely helpful in every respect. Meals overlooking the Esterel Valley from the balcony were wonderful. The village square was a delight and only five minutes walk away, with several good restaurants, village shop and patisserie. We visited Grasse, the Verdon Gorge and spent a lovely day by the Lac de Saint Cassien. The villa was full of French character; our only concern was that the description regarding the bathrooms and toilet facilities we felt was misleading. We anticipated two en-suite bathrooms when in fact neither bathroom had a toilet so on that floor it was neccesary to share the separate toilet. The lower ground floor had another toilet but during the night it was not possible to use this facility as it was only accessible from outside. However, despite the above, we do hope to return one day and would recommend the villa to friends and family.

Great Villa!

The villa is in a great location, easily walkable to the village which has the usual small supermarket and bread shop. The villa is reasonably well equipped, the highlight being the pool. We had it heated at the end of August and it made it nice to use. The pool was fenced off from the top which meant we didn't have to worry about the kids. There is also no internal stairs from the main villa to the pool (or the rooms below which contain another toilet/shower/washing machines), which also added to security with the kids, but was a bit of a pain when walking between the two.

The TV was of little use, the satellite box wasn't working (we knew in advance) but it had a DVD player which was OK. The main thing (for the kids) was that there was WIFI!!! The WIFI was reasonably fast for where you are and extended out to the pool which was useful.

The mosquito's were present in August, but as long as you use the normal plug ins etc. they're not too much of a bother.

The drive up to the villa was fine and parking was easy and secure. Was a bit bothered about being located near to a school etc., but there was no noise from the road at all. I think that the kids in the pool created the most noise in the area.

The view from the villa is nice, albeit you are looking over some commercial areas such as supermarkets etc, but they are in the distance. Just don't expect the completely "unspoilt" view.

The villa was nice and clean and well prepared for the visit. All in all, one of the best villa's that we've stayed in.

Just Perfect !

Stayed at this villa to catch up on rest and good food and we were delighted when we woke up and looked outside. The location is just perfect. The pictures don't do justice of the views : much much better when you see it for yourself. The village is literally a matter of minutes walk away and to be honest we didn't really venture much beyond the village. The villa is well equipped and has a very French charm rather than very modern which is exactly what we wanted. We were lucky with the weather : sunshine everyday ! There were very limited UK channels on the TV but who would want to spend their week watching TV inside rather than sitting in the sun by the pool watching the the sun slowly set ? Saw two spectacular blood red sunsets. The lounge has a large L-shaped sofa and there's a solid oak ( very heavy !!) French dining table at the other side of the room. It's quite a large room with lots of space. Henry was very helpful when we called him about a small problem. A big 'Thanks' for such a wonderful week. Would highly recommend a stay here. M & J

The number of UK channels dropped to 2 or 3 overnight when the satellite companies changed their footprint to restrict access of UK channels in Europe. We are looking at a variety of options but a 2m dish, which is one option, may not be very practical. Hope to see you soon !

Activity and Interests

Car: recommended


Lac St Cassien provides swimming and water sports activities about 10 minutes drive away. Sandy beaches can be found at Frejus(20 minute drive), St Raphael (30 minute drive), Cannes (30 minute drive). St Tropez is 45 minutes drive.


Nice airport is 45 mins drive, Toulon airport is 80 minutes and Marseille airport is 90 mins. Use of car hire is recommended.


The village centre is 5 minutes walk. The perched village of Callian is a 5 minute drive whilst the town of Fayence is 10 minutes away. Cannes is accessible via the A8 motorway within 30 minutes as are the surrounding villages of Biot (glass-blowing) and Mougins (fine restaurants).

Further Details:

Around the picturesque village square can be found the baker, grocer, butcher, pharmacy etc. There is a bank and an ATM together with a post office. The village cinema is one of a few in the whole of Provence to have regular showings in English. Restaurants and Auberges to suit all tastes and budgets can be found locally in and around Montauroux.

  • Notes on accommodation: The property is on the mountain side and is therefore spread over several terraces. The swimming pool is two terraces below the house with the terrace completely fenced off for child safety purposes. The property would be unsuitable for those who have difficulties with stairs. Outside: Private swimming pool (10x5 metres) with Roman walk in steps. Sun-loungers, pergola and palm trees for shade, portable barbecue. In the cooler months (Sept-May) the pool can be heated (for an additonal £50 per week). Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Cleaning takes place prior to the arrival of guests but further cleaning can be arranged for an additional fee if requested.
