Lovely Stone Cottage with Stunning Views, Not to be Missed

Updated: 03-Nov-2016
2 Bedr Cottage in Ambeyrac, Aveyron - Overlooks the Beautiful Lot River Valley in a Very Peaceful Locatio

The property nestles on the side of a hill with tranquil views overlooking the Lot River Valley, 12th century chateau Laroque-Toirac and our pretty stone village of Ambeyrac. This tastefully restored cottage has patios from which you can relax and enjoy the sunny southerly aspect and the magnificent views to the west. The village has a small shop that opens daily. Benefit from the warmth of the south west weather in stunning surroundings of valleys with rocky cliffs and colourful wild plateaux. The Lot valley is a paradise for walkers, road and mountain bike enthusiasts with walks and rides from the door. Ideally situated between many riverside market towns full of history and beautiful architecture. Throughout the summer, the area is bustling with different events including music festivals (eg Africajarc at the end of July), fetes, night markets, firework etc.

About the Owner

Hi all,

We`ve been here for 10 years now having fallen in love with this very unspoilt, wild and rugged, part of France.

No kids (plenty of nephews though) and are serious animal lovers who love walking and biking for which this area is just perfect.

We`re both from office based backgrounds so the property maintenance and restoration we do here is very different.

With us what you see is what you get, we`re conscientious and fairly easy going.

Owner's Response: Really pleased that you enjoyed your stay and that you got out and about enough to benefit from the gorgeous weather whilst you were here. We know this area`s pretty special and unspoilt yet still with plenty going on so look forward to seeing more of you down this way if your plans work out. Thank you for being such great guests!

From the Owner

We were down in Albi on holiday 11 years ago and kept gravitating back up to the whole area from the Aveyron river upwards past the Cele river and on a sheer whim decided to view some properties. We only saw 5, fell for our big barn with seperate cottage (now the gite) and without even looking into what facilities the village offered we bought it! Due to the amount of work needed to restore both properties we had no choice but to pack in our jobs, load up a rental van (we didn`t have much `stuff`) and head here for good. We`ve loved it here, have made some lovely friends and have not looked back though we appreciate the ease of been back in the UK when we go there which we took for granted before.

Activity and Interests

We are inland and the nearest coastal beach would be at least 3.5 hours away, however, we do overlook the Lot River which is a few minutes walk away and which you can swim in. Though in a village the cottage is right on the outskirts and overlooking the village and the area in general is very peaceful and rural.

Nearest airport is Rodez - about 50 minutes drive away, 75km.

Toulouse is 1.5hrs away.

Driving from Dieppe allow 8 hours & 9 hours plus from Calais.

Nearest train station - Figeac, 20 minutes drive away.

The cottage is on the outer edge of a pretty village which has a village shop/boulangerie (1 minute walk) and a butchers but for bars and restaurants allow 15 minute drive to Cajarc, 20 minutes to Figeac, 25 minutes to Villefranche de Rouergue.

Places of interest would include St Cirq Lapopie, Rocamadour, Cordes sur Ciel & Najac and caves at Lacave, Pech Merle & Foissac.

Lots of colourful local markets throughout the year.

Further Details:

Bars, restaurants, supermarkets, banks, museums and public pools etc all to be found within 15 - 25 minute drive.

From the Owner

Most of our guests comment on how much space there is in the cottage and how the photos don`t do it justice and we like this reaction. No-one is disappointed and everyone mentions the beautiful views and how lucky we must be to live here. We may not be next to big towns (though are 20 minutes and less from 4 really nice ones with everything you`ll need) but we do have the benefit of being in a authentic and beautiful french stone village with some great characters plus the convenience of a well stocked little village shop just down the hill and a really good butcher also in the village. Hard to say how our cottage compares as most others we know of are far bigger and cater for 8 plus people, however, if all past guests have loved it then so will you!
