5 Star holiday cottage with its own private indoor pool. Situated in Thorpe, a delightful village at the southern end of the White Peak area of the Peak National Park, Thorpe Cloud View cottage is a charming holiday location within the four-acre grounds of, but set apart from, Thorpe House, a late Georgian limestone grade two listed building of considerable character. The cottage, allocated the top rating of five stars, has uninterrupted views of Thorpe Cloud, at the entrance to Dovedale, the limestone gorge which separates Derbyshire and Staffordshire. The surrounding areas provide excellent walking. The picturesque Derbyshire market town of Ashbourne is just some 3 miles away; the spa town of Buxton, and the historic houses of Chatsworth, Haddon Hall, Hardwick Hall and Kedleston are all within easy access. Alton Towers, the UK’s largest leisure park is only a twenty-minute drive away.

All prices shown are for 2 adults sharing the cottage. £11/night additional charged for each additional adult or child, minimum charge is 2 nights for additional guests, so £22 each. Due to the galleried landing and York Stone flooring, the cottage is not ideal for children under the age of three, however the cottage can be booked at parents own discretion/responsibility. We do not provide a cot, high chair or stair gate. Outside: A private estate with fantastic gardens in all 4 acres. The Holiday Cottage enjoys uninterrupted view of the hills of Thorpe Cloud at Dovedale. Often you will be able to watch sheep and lambs, cows, bulls and calves, many types of birds including woodpeckers all from the secluded outside seating area of the holiday cottage. Indoor Swimming Pool & Luxury Jacuzzi. This opulant swimming pool is heated to 31 degrees. It is about 1.4meters deep and 14 metres (40 ft) long. Ideal for the serious swimmer, for the beginner or for the children. The Jacuzzi has its own heating control and has jets from the sides and the bottom of the seat. Utility Room: Eco friendly remote central heating system (biomass wood pellets) Washing machine and dryer. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: The cottage is cleaned after each guest visit. Towels and bedlinen are provided. Our gardener tends to the grounds and may start early (7.00am). Also our handy man is often around keeping everything looking great. This will include moving and loading wood pellets to a centralised green energy heating system. Other: Gallaried landing over the lounge/sitting room gives an open spacious feeling.

beautiful stone cottage with your own indoor heated pool**AMAZING**

This was the second time that we have stayed at this gorgeous stone cottage. It is tastefully decorated and is in a very peaceful location. The heated swimming pool is an added bonus, we enjoyed a swim every day. Our daughter was with us this time and she enjoyed the walk to the top of Thorpe Cloud (in record time)!and of course the stepping stones and walks around Dovedale are wonderful. There is wildlife all around the orchard and adjoining fields and the chickens are at the kitchen door to greet you.The owners Ray and Julie are very friendly and helpful, and thank you so much for the fresh cut roses and bottle of wine on arrival, greatly appreciated. Ashbourne is a lovely town for shopping and eating out and is so near to all the bigger towns like Buxton, Bakewell, Chesterfield and Matlock/ Matlock Bath. We will certainly be coming back again in the future. Thank you Ray and Julie

Peaceful, relaxing and very accommodating bolthole

Within 24hrs of arriving we’d booked for another week in August. This cottage is sublime. It’s so comfortable, well laid out and thoughtfully furnished you could just shut the doors, hunker down and chill for your whole visit, with dips in the private pool to keep you from ceasing up entirely. Or pop your walking boots on and explore the stunning and accessible local walks. From a stroll round the village (that’s us!) or a romp up the surrounding hills (they look perfect through the window for me) it’s all here.

The hosts are perfect - knowledgable, helpful but not intrusive. Would highly recommend a visit if you can find a spot in their calendar that matches yours.

Beautiful cottage, in idyllic location. Well presented, with many thoughtful touches.

A truly adorable, quaint barn conversion, tastefully decorated and presented, with the addition of many extra welcoming features. The cottage was warm and inviting upon arrival, with a complimentary bottle of wine provided and fresh flowers. Having arrived during the worst/coldest weather for a thirty year period, (and with the road into Dovedale, only being cleared of snow that morning,) Ray, the propieter was very anxious to ensure we had sufficient logs/kindling etc, to last us the week. In addition he checked, that the property had two torches available, and candles, as he was concerned that with the weather conditions, we could experience power cuts too. Luckily though, this did not happen!

We were then taken over to the swimming pool, which is wonderful. The air tempruature in here, and the pool and jacuzzi tempruature, were more than inviting in such cold weather. We were given a brief instruction in how to use everything, and then told to make ourselves at home, enjoy ourselves, and let them know if there was anything in addition, that we required. Perfect.

We have had a truly amazing week here. Despite the massive snowdrifts and sub-arctic conditions it has been a truly wonderful experience. We have been able to get out and explore the local area, which is truly beautiful, and dine out still too. We have also had the further pleasure of the pool area, which we have used for several hours each day.

Cottage and pool both scored 10/10 in my opinion. Scenery superlative, and several good eateries nearby. Would I book again? Most definitely, and intend to do so very shortly. Would I reccomend to others? Yes, but only if you leave me a chance too!!

Perfect relaxing retreat

The cottage is the perfect relaxing getaway. Everything is of high quality and is beautifully presented. The pool and jacuzzi are amazing and complete the feeling of relaxation. Ray the owner couldnt have been more helpful. We stayed during the recent storms and he made sure we had everything we needed and helped us to get in and out in the snow, as well as clearing a path to the pool every day. After a relaxing swim, light the log burner and relax! The views are stunning with beautiful walks from the door. We cant recommend this cottage enough. We will definitely return.

Ideal location, warm and walcoming with everything you need and more

Perfectly situated with walking distance to Dove Dale, Ilam and Thorpe Cloud, it's even only 10 minutes cycle from the Tissington cycle trail and a short walk to a cosy pub that serves real ale and food. The cottage has a gorgeous layout with a mezzanine hallway into the bedroom upstairs and dining room bridging the kitchen and living room. The fireplace has a glass door and is a very effective log burner, but really everything is laid out for you - kindling, long matches and chopped wood. We had brought out bikes and the owners were really attentive in making sure dry secure storage was made available for them. Clarke who helps out about the place for Ray even dropped by a map of a route I was interested in completing whilst there. We had every bit of local knowledge on tap in folders we needed. Towels were plentiful - even in the swimming pool which also had inflatables for big kids like us to play around with. We had an amazing time and were both left to our own space and had easy support and advice whenever needed - perfect hosts and a really special place.

Further Details:

There are many country pubs that offer a friendly atmosphere and reasonably priced food, or high quality restaurants at nearby hotels or within 3 miles at Ashbourne. Ashbourne offers a choice of supermarkets, high street & local bespoke shops, banks and many ladies boutiques. There are a number of Antiques shops in Ashbourne. The pub in the village now named The Old Dog has been fantastically renovated and is great for a drink something to eat, approx. 1/3 mile to walk UP the road.

Shrovetide is an annual event each February which sees Ashbourne closed to traffic & shops boarded up for 2 days whilst the local townsfolk "Upards" take on the "Downards" in a "football" match through the streets with goal posts some 3 miles apart. A spectacle to behold!!
