The whole area in front of the apartment, alongside the river, has been completely renovated with a beautiful new promenade with wide pedestrian walkway, seating and trees. The fishing boats remain moored, retaining the towns fishing identity.
Set on the first floor of a townhouse a much sought after this 1 double bedroom apartment has a large balcony overlooking the Rio Gilao, where you can watch the world go by and a very private roof terrace with stunning views over the river to the Igreja Calma and the old town. The balcony and roof terrace are a real bonus to this apartment which is already in a special position. We are just about to upgrade the bedroom completely for the 2015 season, photos soon

In the heart of Tavira, yet away from the hustle and bustle, with its cobbled streets, small shops, restaurants and riverside cafes. The restaurants are many and varied and our guests love trying them all and are amazed at the low prices and variety, especially the wines which are very cheap and excellent as Portugal is now winning lots of prizes for its excellent wines... During August there is outside entertainment, which is very varied from music to traditional dancing, in the Praca every night. As Tavira is rated as a 'Slow City' this is just what you will experience in the relatively unspoilt historic town. This is an all year round destination having dual air-conditioning/heater units in the lounge and bedroom. All windows have fly screens. This apartment can be rented along with the rear studio P8492 and/or P17358 to make very flexible accommodation for two couples or three couples sharing but having total independence. Tavira now has Tuk Tuk tours which is an ideal way to learn the history of Tavira but more important to get orientated with all the small streets
The whole of the area to Quatro Aguas and the other ferry stop has been renovated with a walking/cycle path, seats and shades and restaurants and cafe/bars. It is now an easy flat walk between the Roman salinas with many wading birds and flamingos.

We are George and Barbara & have been married for over 45 years! We have 30 years+ previous experience of renting properties in Sussex & Belgium. We have had a villa in Tavira for 12 years & when we retired spent time between the 3 countries. Needless to say we could not resist looking for good quality properties for rental & decided to share the lovely city of Tavira with others. We have always had the opinion that if we would want to stay in a place so would other people and we have always used that criteria. We realise that holidays are very important to people as they spend a long time choosing and looking forward to them & saving for them. For us it is also important that we treat people as we like to be treated. We are constantly looking to upgrade our apartments for extra comfort

Before arrival we informed the property manager of our flight details well in advance. We texted from Faro Airport to expect us in about 40 minutes. Despite this we were not met at the property. Thankfully, our driver was able to make contact and she eventually arrived some 15 minutes later. We were unable to bring the concerns listed below to the property manager as she failed to turn up prior to our departure as arranged.There were extensive roadworks outside the apartment which blighted the whole of our stay. No explanation or apology was provided by the property manager or the owners regarding this. We were awoken early every morning usually about 8 a.m. by the noise of machinery. We were unable to avail of the balcony, such as it is, during the day because of the roadworks. The works were so invasive we were unable to enjoy the roof terrace. The spiral staircase used to access it was nearly vertical and was a trial to ascend and a danger to descend. The landing leading to the roof was filthy as was the terrace itself full of flaked paint from the walls which continued to flake off during our stay.The furniture was rusted and uncomfortable without cushions. All in all, the roof terrace was most unappealing. There was no provision for a safe in the apartment.This was further exacerbated by the fact that the main door to the apartment could not be double locked - a preliminary inspection of the premises would have revealed this defect.The spacious kitchen, would have benefited from a de-clutter. The cupboards were full of leftover foodstuffs from previous guests there was no space to store our own provisions. Why a one-bedroomed apartment, occupied by two people, requires 50+ glasses, is beyond us. The balcony left a lot to be desired. Two wicker chairs (devoid of cushions) a small table.The windows were filthy. We were told the bedroom the aircon unit leaked but was ok to use. We had to put a pot underneath to collect dripping water. We have never stayed in an apartment where the bedding and towels were only changed once during our 16 night stay. This is, without doubt, the worst holiday experience we have ever had to suffer at the hands of an advertiser on “Owners Direct”.The only positive thing we can say about this property is the fact that it overlooks the river.
Fantastic riverside apartment - perfect location!
We stayed in this lovely, spacious apartment, with fantastic views over the river. The location was perfect, in the centre of Tavira and within walking distance of all the bars, restaurants and shops, yet just far enough away so it was peaceful in the evenings. The ferry stop, where you catch the boat which took us to the beautiful white sands of Tavira island, is right opposite the apartment, which couldn’t be any more convenient. The friendly, helpful owners, George and Barbara, provided everything we could possibly need for a relaxing stay in the apartment, with surprising little extras, like a cool-box and a good selection of books. The apartment was well maintained and spotlessly clean. The rooftop terrace was a bonus - a great sun trap with plenty of privacy for sunbathing. Can't recommend it highly enough - we will be back!
AS GOOD AS IT GETS
This is a great apartment in all sorts of ways. It is located on the river front at the end of the newly built esplanade with a choice of cafes bars and restaurants within 200 metres, and with the Roman Bridge and town centre within a five minute stroll. The balcony overlooks the river and is perfect for river watching, people watching or just reading a book with glass of wine. The roof terrace is completely private and tranquil, with panoramic roof top views. Ideal for sunbathing.
The apartment was spotlessly clean and very comfortable, with a spacious living room with dining area and a very well equipped kitchen if you want to eat in, though we didn't. The bedroom is a decent size and the bed very comfortable. The bathroom has a bath and a shower.
All in all I think this is as good as you could ask for. We're going back in October.
Tavira itself is a pleasant, friendly and busy little town with lots to see. We did a rickshaw tour at the start of our stay which really got us orientated. There are good restaurants all over town, on both sides of the river. A trip to the island is a must.
We loved pretty well everything about our stay.
We stayed in this apartment for 1 week. It was perfect. Very modern, clean, balcony overlooking the river and a lovely roof top terrace. The location is ideal. The ferry to Tavira Island is directly outside the apartment and it is only a 2 minute walk to the town.
Tavira itself is beautiful. Lots of restaurants to choose from. A lovely atmosphere in the evening with markets and live music.
Would highly recommend this apartment and the owners are very nice.

“We bought this building purely because it is right alongside the Rio Gilão. The ground floor is let as a large 1 bedroom apartment. It has 2 apartments on the first floor the front one having beautiful views, from the large balcony, over the river with the comings and goings of the fishermen and also a secluded roof terrace. The studio is very large and bright and also has a balcony. We fell in love with Tavira when we first saw it and that is why we live here. It still has a slow pace and is relatively unspoilt. The countryside behind is stunning and well worth a visit just driving and exploring the small white villages and stopping at a small cafe for a drink with the locals. It is stunning in Spring with the hills painted white and yellow from the cistus and mimosa.”

The Ria Formosa Nature Reserve is a World Heritage site and a paradise for twitchers with migrating birds, flamingos wadding in the salinas or for those who just appreciate nature. In August you can watch the Flor do Sal-Sea Salt being collected by hand in the way it has been done for hundreds of years. One of our guests counted over 100 species of birds in one day!
All the beaches have the coverted EEC blue flag Endless white sand, safe with small tides where you can walk, swim or just relax, boasting some of the warmest water temperatures in the Algarve, normally 25C in August. Tavira Island and Barril beach are accessed by a small train or ferry and there are a few small restaurants and cafes so the beach can be enjoyed as long as you desire. A 10 minute drive gives direct access to the beach. Even in peak season you will find a quiet stretch of beach.

Tavira is one of the most unspoilt towns in the Algarve with the Rio Gilao running through its centre and spanned by a 7 arch Roman bridge. This unspoilt town retains it historic medieval past with the castle standing watch over some 30 churches. The winding cobbled streets are full of small shops and riverside cafes where the pace of life is slow. A daily market offers fresh fish from the local fishermen caught that morning, local fruit and vegetable at affordable prices. There is a varied choice of good restaurants at very reasonable prices. During the season the outdoor 'amphitheatre' in the square provides evening music and entertainment. Concerts and classical recitals are held in some of the large churches, which is a wonderful natural setting. During August the Igreja da Calma hosts an outdoor cinema in its precincts. The Algarve boasts long white sandy beaches with the coveted Blue Flag. The Ria Formosa Nature Reserve, which is a World Heritage site, has many rare species of birds enjoying the benefits of a larger system of tidal lagoons which is a bird twitchers paradise. Many species of birds migrate here, or stop on the way. Flamingos paddle in the salinas (salt marshes) and storks make unruly nests on any high vantage point. The old Convento da Graca has been tenderly renovated into a stunning Pousada, to dine or have a cool drink in the cloisters is a real must We now have a shopping mall outside the town with over 100 shops, a food hall and a 4 theatre cinema for those inclement days which are far and few between as Tavira boasts over 300 days sunshine
