Two bedroom apartment located in Tavira Garden, an elegant residential-holiday complex near the historic town of Tavira. Tavira Garden is a group of buildings in Moorish style set in mature landscaped gardens. The facilities include 2 large pools with adjoining children's pools, children's play area, tennis courts, well equipped gym, and picnic area. There is a restaurant with indoor and outdoor dining offering good value meals. At Reception you can use free wi-fi, book excursions, hire a car or order a taxi. There is ample car parking. Tavira Garden is situated close to little Tavira, a charming historic town and working fishing port. Set on both banks of the tidal River Gilão and connected by a Roman foot bridge, Tavira will lead you along its cobbled streets passed its tile covered houses, to its many beautiful churches and its hill top castle. From the lovely town square by the river you can easily stroll to one of the many delightful cafes or restaurants.

Perfect for a relaxing week in the sun

Really lovely top floor apartment (up 4 flights of stairs), with great views down to the sea. Very well equipped and furnished, spotlessly clean when we arrived. Tavira Gardens is very nicely done, with great swimming pools and bar/restaurant but nice and quiet in the evenings. Air conditioning was much appreciated when we were there as it was very hot at night. John (the owner) was super helpful right from when we booked the apartment and sent us a wealth of information before we went and it is all available in the apartment as well. Tavira town and the beaches are really lovely, perfect for a relaxing week in the sun!

Activity and Interests


The coast of Tavira is within the Ria Formosa National Park. The wide sandy beach situated on the Island of Tavira is reached by taking a charming ferry trip from Tavira town or by a trip on the narrow gauge railway at nearby Barril. On the beach are attractive restaurants and cafes, with parasols and sun beds for hire. There are also many enormous clean sandy mainland beaches all along the coast as far as the Spanish border to the east or Faro and beyond to the west.


Faro airport is approx 30km away (30 minutes, 38 Euros by pre-booked taxi). From the airport there are bus services into Faro with frequent bus and train connections onward to Tavira. Trains and buses from Tavira will take you to other parts of Portugal and to Spain. It is perfectly feasible to enjoy your stay in Tavira without a car and many do so. However the use of a car even for a few days will enable you to explore the wider area.


A 15 min walk from the complex will bring you to the tidal River Gilao in the centre of Tavira town. Alternatively there is a readily available and inexpensive ( say 5 euros within the urban area) taxi service. The coastal villages of Santa Luzia and Cabanas are a 5 - 10 min drive away (also reached by bus or train). There are a host of nearby towns and villages to explore for example Olhão (20km), still a thriving fishing town. The Spanish border is about 30km east.

Picturesque Tavira is surrounded by hills with an active fleet of small fishing boats moored on one bank of its narrow tidal river. At the daily food market you can buy all the fish, vegetables, meat and dairy produce you could wish for. The river front is bordered by a delightful park. Within a few yards are friendly cafes and restaurants to cater for all tastes. In its delightful town square with its trickling fountain there are frequent entertainments. Fun activities include ferry rides, narrow-gauge railway, road train, horses, bike hire, astronomical obervatory, water parks, caves, castles, tidal mills, street entertainment, plus the miles of beaches. And there are weekly church concerts. Nearby you'll find supermarkets, banks, post offices, cinema, internet cafes, tourist office, and many interesting local shops. In the apartment we've provided up to date brochures of local attractions. We'll send details of them, plus lots of other useful tips, to guests well in advance of their holiday. Changeover Day:
The preferred change-over day is Saturday but is negotiable. Rental of part week (minimum stay one week) charged pro-rata. We may ask guests to wait for access until 4pm on day of arrival, or to vacate by 10am on day of departure, but only if necessary.

  • Notes on accommodation: The apartment is furnished in a modern and comfortable style, and is favourably situated within the complex. The living area is 74sqm, plus the private terrace of 17sqm. The apartment is on the 2nd floor with the kitchen and terrace facing East to the coast and the living rooms and bedrooms facing West to the setting sun. It is double glazed throughout. There are supplementary black-out curtains if you want to keep out early morning light. The air conditioning heats as well as cools, so the apartment is suitable for summer and winter holidays. Children are welcome, both in the apartment and in the complex generally. Pets - we regret that pets are not allowed. Smoking - guests are asked to smoke only in the outside areas. Outside: The secluded terrace off the kitchen is not overlooked, and has a patio table and chairs, parasol and sunlounger, with views of the coast. Immediately above the apartment is the sun terrace with extensive views. The complex's 2 pools and their adjoining children's pools are set nearby in the gardens with sun beds and parasols provided for guests. The tennis courts, gymnasium, children's play area, restaurant and bar are also located conveniently within the complex. Charges may apply for tennis and the gym. The gym and restaurant/bar on the complex have limited opening out of high season. Utility Room: Storage room off kitchen with iron and ironing board, clothes drying frame, vacuum cleaner, cleaning utensils. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Apartment is cleaned to a high standard prior to guests' arrival. Bathroom towels and bed linen are provided and changed weekly. You need only bring your own beach towels. Other: Own 17sqm terrace, accessed from kitchen and very private. Wooden patio table and chairs, sunlounger, parasol and BBQ. From the terrace there are good views to the coast. Above the flat is a further large (75 sq.m.) roof terrace.
