Quinta in hills just outside Tavira, Eastern Algarve, Portugal - Totally Private Pool, Private Gardens, 20 mins from Tavira

The Quinta is located 12km from Tavira, on the East side of the Algarve. It is positioned in a quiet location in the Santa Catarina Hills with panoramic views over the countryside and to the coast. The area is one of outstanding natural beauty with indigenous trees and shrubs (cork, cork oak, carob, almond, olive, lemon, rock rose and medronho bush) with most of the surrounding lands completely natural. It occupies a private position within 10,000 square metres of its own land. The Quinta was fully restored in the late 1990s retaining many original features and styles. It is reached by a tarmac road and through gates to a gravel drive. We are far enough away from the hustle and bustle but a 20 minute drive to the Roman town of Tavira and the surrounding areas/beaches and 10 minutes drive to St. Catarina. The property has 3 double bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. The master bedroom has French doors opening to its own private balcony. Upstairs is a south facing good sized terrace complete with BBQ facilities and private sunbathing.

I'm a British private owner who uses the quinta every year for a week or so in low season. Its a home from home as well as a peaceful retreat to my family so its well looked after. I'm not living in Portugal so I use a good local management company to ensure the house and our guests are well looked after.

Lovely holiday villa

We had a fantastic week in this lovely villa. Spectacular views from all aspects of the property. We especially enjoyed watching the sun rise over the sea from the roof terrace. The villa is set in a very private and peaceful hilltop location but is not too remote and is within easy reach of local towns, including the historic Tavira, the coast and incredible mountain drives. We found the layout of the villa to be particularly good with easy access the the wonderful pool and terraces etc. We would recommend this property and would stay there again.

Wonderful holidays

We spent two weeks at Quintas Azuis in July. Situated on the hills of the Serra Algarvia, it is a wonderful retreat, offering complete privacy, peace and stunning views. The house is beautifully decorated, clean and well equipped. Local property manager was very helpful and welcoming. A fantastic place to stay.

Fabulous villa, wonderful views from every aspect. We had a fantastic week dipping in and out of the lovely pool. The owner was very helpful giving us suggestions on local restaurants, beaches and places to visit. Would highly recommend.

The photographs cannot do this justice

This house is even more beautiful than the photographs suggest and it's location on a hilltop with a distant view of the sea was utterly stunning. I was utterly transfixed by the wildflowers and the garden. Our children delighted in the pool despite the early spring temperatures and we loved discovering the Eastern Algarve from this magical spot. Beautifully tucked away but easy to nip down to Tavira and explore the rest of the coast. The house is very well supplied with all that is needed on holiday.

What a Place!

Located on a hillside a few miles inland from the Atlantic, this gorgeous, Architectural Digest-worthy villa is simply spectacular. Combined with its Mediterranean climate and small fishing villages dotting the coast, this is a perfect place for a getaway... or hideaway if you choose. The local food and wine can't be beat and you're just a few hours drive from Seville, quite a beautiful city.

There are few places that Lisa wants to re-visit once she's been there, but this certainly is one of them.

The place to unwind

So much more to the Algarve than mere beaches and this villa proves it. A truly wonderful space, its elevated position making it fabulously private with stunning views. The quinta is stylish, elegantly moorish and really comfortable. Everything you need is there, and more. Easy distance of village with excellent bakery and general amenities. Close to a fabulous hilltop restaurant with breathtaking views. The saltwater pool is a joy and beautifully situated in glorious landscaped garden. A perfect villa away from madding crowds yet short drive to everything you will want. Our favourite place in the sun.

peaceful, green, natural but within 10 minutes from all amenities. Totally private. For food lovers, its a great area with several outstanding restaurants within half an hours drive. The house have a private dining terrace for eating al fresco.

This is a perfect area for birdwatchers, star watchers, cyclists, hikers and peace seekers.


Several beaches within a 20 min drive


Faro airport 30 minutes by car, Seville 1 hour 45 minutes, Lisbon 2 hours 45 minutes.


Fonte de Bispo village 5 mins drive. St. Catarina (local shops, mini market, pharmacy, English newspapers etc) 10 minutes drive. S. Bras de Alportel (shops/large supermarket/restaurants) is 15 minutes by car. Beaches are about 20 minutes drive away (choice of several). The old fishing villages of St. Lucia, Cabanas and Cacela Velha are all around 20 mins drive. The beautiful Ria Formosa National Park is also well worth a visit. Seville is less than 2 hours drive.

Further Details:

There are some fabulous restaurants within a 20 minute drive, to suit all tastes. A Gourmet's delight.
