Better than ALL the Gites I have ever stayed in!

A fabulous house far superior than any Gite I have stayed in before. We were blessed with stunning autumnal weather, contributing to a wonderful stay. We will definitely be back.

Lovely house tucked away in a beautiful valley

  • 5 of 5

We (2 couples) have just come back from a week's stay, in late September, at the Barn. We used the house as a base to cycle in the region, and the house suited us perfectly. Rides were started from the house (a decent amount of climbing, either leaving or returning), or by driving to a start point. For flatter routes the Canal de Bourgogne was ideal, though we did go further to cycle a loop taking in Noyers and another along the Route du Cremant. It's a great way of seeing the area, roads are virtually empty, the views are great and the wildlife is spectacular! On return to the house each day we had 2 bedrooms, both with en suite facilities, a well appointed kitchen with a great washing machine for all that cycling gear, a decent cooker and a nice place to relax both inside and out. Sharon was very helpful and friendly but unobtrusive, though sadly I never got around to doing the run route she suggested even though it sounded great! I hope that your half marathon goes well!

A haven of peace and comfort in beautiful Burgundy

  • 5 of 5

Travelling in a party of 3 friends we had a wonderful stay at the Barn in Frolois. We were blessed with lovely sunshine throughout our stay which allowed us to enjoy the terrace outside overlooking the glorious countryside. At night all we could hear was the hooting of owls and we even saw a shooting star as we enjoyed a late night glass of wine and star gazing. Sharon has created a real home from home for her visitors with ensuite bathrooms, instant hot water and very comfortable beds. The decor is lovely and very relaxing. The kitchen provides everything you could need and the barbecue outside allows for outdoor cooking. Sharon and her family, who live next door, provide welcome support, always helpful but never intrusive. The meal ordering service is amazing, enabling us to enjoy restaurant quality food without needing to worry about driving home! We arrived to a feast of cold meats and cheeses together with salad, homemade dressing and local mustards which had been left in our fridge. Just what was needed after a long journey. The welcome pack was also lovely with wine, mustard and fantastic homemade plum jam!!!! We had neglected to buy milk on our journey so Sharon provided us with some for our morning cuppa! We also enjoyed Sharon's amazing boeuf bourgignon and ordered her Pavlova twice it was so good! What can be better than enjoying a day out and returning to a lovely meal delivered to you? The morning croissants delivered to our windowsill were also a treat and were enjoyed with the plum jam!! Sharon's advice on local places to visit was excellent; beautiful places without needing to travel too far. We visited Flavigny (where I stocked up on my favourite aniseed sweets), Semur-en Auxois, le Chateau de Bussy-Rabutin and the amazing Abbey of Fontenay. We also enjoyed the market at Chablis and had lunch in the mediaeval town of Noyers. I cannot recommend this property too highly. We enjoyed a fabulous holiday and were very reluctant to leave what felt like our 'home' in a beautiful part of France. Thankyou Sharon and family for making us feel so welcome.

Whaley Bridge, High Peak

Wonderful relaxing place!

  • 5 of 5

We were a family of four staying at 'The Barn''. Oli and Emily aged 9 and 6. It was a lovely relaxing place to stay! It's immaculate throughout. If a younger family was stopping, Sharon has thought of all the small details e.g.. safety catches on fridge, stools for children in the bath room and other handy equipment. Plenty of games and books for them to play with. A big bonus was when the offer of a paddling pool was blown up by Grégoire! Really appreciated!

We enjoyed discovering Flagnivy, which we visited a few times. Beautiful village! We went to Abbaye de Fontenay and Dijon, both very interesting. There's a great app for Dijon, that shows you different tours on foot and gives you details at each spot of where you are. We discovered 'The Owl Trail'. The children loved following the brass owl triangles on the floor for the trail!

We went to the source of The Seine to discover where the mighty river starts! Which is amazing showing photos of it in Paris to Oli and Em.

Nearby Darcy we had a lovely wooded walk and picnic. Went paddling and discovering a cave.

The offer of croissants, pain au chocolat and baguettes delivered fresh every morning was a delight! Oli and Em eagerly awaited for the basket on the windowsill! We had freshly baked pizzas baked fresh to order by Sharon when we came back from Dijon, really tasty! Lots of other food was offered.

Last but not least, Ned and Noodles!! The lovely kittens that Oli and Emily befriended! Certainly kept them entertained in the garden! They are still mentioned when we came home to the UK! A thoroughly enjoyable stay, so relaxing!

Wishing you all the best Sharon and family!

Outstanding location and house and wonderful owner

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed at many HomeAway properties in the US and Europe, but this one topped them all. The house (The Barn) is excellent with everything needed in a very pretty old, but very modernized, building -- from a very well equipped kitchen to a nice patio and outdoor gas grill to very comfortable bedrooms. We had 2 couples for much of our stay and the setup was great with 2 ensuite bedrooms (there's a 3rd bedroom and another bathroom, but we did not have a need for that). It is located in a very small village with nice views across a valley and is very quiet. The owners have solved the issue of there being no restaurants in the village by offering homemade meals from a rather extensive menu of starters, mains (full meals or light ones), desserts/puddings and breads. These can be ordered with only 1 day notice and are delivered to your door from the owner's house next door. An incredible luxury that we took advantage of several times during our 2 week stay, including the evening of our rather late arrival. The food was always excellent (prices were also very reasonable), probably since the owners are trained chefs. We used the house as a base to explore much of Burgundy since most places are in very reasonable driving range. The owners, Sharon and her husband (sorry, can't remember his name) are perfect hosts. They were always very friendly but also ensured that they were in no way obtrusive. Simply put -- you can't go wrong if you stay at "The Barn".

Owner's Response: Thank you Bob and Michelle. This is a lovely review and hopefully helpful for people thinking about booking The Barn or one of our other 'Burgundy hideaways' properties.

About Sharon MEGRET

Sharon and Gregoire Megret have been living in Burgundy for many years and undertaken several renovation projects. They are proud to offer The Barn (one of three holiday properties they own) for holiday accommodation. Living and working in Burgundy for many years along with their two daughters.

Sharon MEGRET purchased this barn in 2004

Why Sharon MEGRET chose Frôlois

We feel this property offers everything needed for a comfortable 'Home away from home' holiday. When we are looking for a holiday house to use for our family, we look for value for money and above all comfort, and we believe this offers both. Frolois is a superb base for exploring the region and peaceful enough for relaxing and enjoying the view.

What makes this barn unique

We feel The Barn offers stylish interiors and comfort without costing the earth. This peaceful village has picturesque charm with stunning views. Hours can be spent taking in the beautiful surroundings.

Guestbook comments from the manager

We've just had an amazing stay here at the Barn! Thank you so much, Sharon & co for making it so special - every little detail.......the decor, the welcome package, the lovely toiletries. Oh and the Boeuf Bourguignone you cooked for us was just divine! WE HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT!

P.S. We would love to come back for a weeks trip next time. Pack light if you have children as everything we needed for our 18 month old son was thought of for us. Truly a treat!
