Location

Coast/Beach:

The impressive coastal towns of La Rochelle and Sables d’Olonne are one and half hour's drive.

Our nearest airports are Poitiers and La Rochelle, approximately an hour's drive, but Limoges, Tours and Bordeaux are all within commutable distance. Calais is about a 6 1/2 hour drive, Cherbourg and St Malo are about 5 hours. A car is essential.

Distances:

St Hilliare de Voust (3km) has an excellent family run boulongerie specialising in chocolate, patisserie and breads, all are truly wonderful. There are many local markets, Tuesday morning Coulonges (10km) a very pretty medieval town. Wednesday morning Partheny (20km), this has a stunning medieval quarter, with many good restaurants all of which are children friendly. Thursday and Saturday Noirt (32km) hosts a large market. Not forgetting Fontenay Le Compte (16km) which has a stunning Chateau.

Further Details:

The area is rich in history and boasts the second sunniest climate in France with as many hours of sunshine as the Mediterranean coast. The area is ideal for walking, horse riding or cycling. Fishing permits can be purchased locally for a pleasant day at Pescalis next to Moncoutant.

For visitors with an interest in fishing La Menantelierre provides a wealth of opportunities within less than an hours drive.

La Rochelle and the Atlantic coast offer sea anglers plenty of opportunities to take to the sea.

If you fancy letting someone else do the hard work whilst you enjoy the local scenery why not consider booking horse riding. The following establishments can cater for riders of all abilities.

A little piece of heaven

  • 5 of 5

The pictures of this place just can't convey how beautiful this place is. The Gite was fantastic had everything you need for the perfect holiday. It's also bigger than it looks in the photos. Our host Josie was absolutely lovely she was there if you needed her but not at all intrusive. The views are breathtaking and the deck is the perfect place to sit and take in the the sunset. There are also barn owls! We had an amazing holiday here very relaxing and tranquil but also there are lots of things nearby to enjoy. It's ideally situated for Puy du Fou and there are some lovely towns to visit not to mention the restaurants and markets! There was a really good selection of information available in the Gite , where to go, where to eat etc. This is a fabulous place to relax but also has wifi and a pool which kept our son who is 12 more than happy. Would definitely recommend this place without hesitation, you won't be disappointed!

Lovely Gite,Peaceful surroundings, great holiday

  • 5 of 5

Josie provided us with a great welcome pack, varied knowledge of the surrounding areas and great tips on making the most of our time in France. The property was tidy and cosy with a beautiful decking area for surveying the rolling countryside. The chicken and pigs at the bottom of the garden were a highlight.

Would recommend a car for excursions, although bikes are provided for local trips.

Recommended.

Delightfully enjoyable week

  • 5 of 5

We were warmly met at the gate by Josie and shown around our gite. The gite was lovely and very well presented. Our hosts had provided a welcome pack, this is always very welcome. It had all the amenities you will need, from washing machine to powder and conditioner. Its the little things that makes a stay go beyond normal to be a delightfully enjoyable experience. The view from our decking was great, well worth getting up in the morning with a cup of something with a croissant or two and just sit back and watch the day unfurl. The above ground pool was greatly appreciated as the temperatures increased throughout our week.

A little slice of heaven

  • 5 of 5

Arrived in the dark, awoke to pull back curtains and WOW what a view ! Fantastic base for exploring local places of interest. Peace and relaxation guaranteed, whilst enjoying a glass of wine on the decking, and having a dip in the pool. Plenty of lovely local restaurants to enjoy. Josie is always there for help and advice. The gite was spotless, everything you need at hand, and English TV. Bikes are also available to enjoy a ride through the lovely countryside. On one such occasion, we came across CafeBonBon in La Chapelle aux Lys, owned by a lovely English couple.

Would highly recommend and return - Beautiful !

Lovely peaceful gite with wonderful views

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and all agreed it is the best holiday cottage we’ve stayed at, home or in France. We loved the spacious, airy living area and the walk out onto the large deck with lovely views. The pool was a big hit with our daughter Libby, and seeing the pigs and chickens were the highlight of her holiday! The gite was perfectly equipped and you both, as hosts, were so welcoming.

Beautiful!

  • 5 of 5

Just returned from a fabulous week here. Gite is really comfortable, clean and well equipped with lots of little extras. Josie is super helpful and knowledgable and was happy for us to have fresh produce from her delightful garden. The sun terrace, pool and view are just perfect for summer relaxing. We took our 9 year old son and as we were lucky with the weather we spent a few days at the Gite but also visited a local chateau at Memsis which was geared for children, the Adventure Park for Tree Top climbing just outside of L'Absie and a day trip to La Rochelle including The Aquarium. We had a super holiday and would happily return and highly recommend. Thank you Josie.
