Le Carroir

  • 4 of 5

Le Carroir proved to be an excellent holiday home. Situated in the centre of the delightful medieval town of St. Aignan, close to restaurants, shops, and all amenities, it was an ideal base for touring the area.

The town house on three floors provided good accomodation for five people. It was spotlessly clean and had all the facilities we needed. The owners were very welcoming and extremely helpful, and made certain that we had everything we needed for a pleasant stay.

The town itself was very interesting and the residents were very friendly. A fairly short drive took us to see some of the magnificent chateaux of the Loire valley, the wineries and historic towns of the region.

It was a very relaxng holiday and I would highly recommend Le Carroir to anyone looking for a peaceful break in a splendid location.

Month-long visit

  • 5 of 5

I spent the month of April at Le Carroir. Even though the weather didn't welcome me (it was an unusually cold and rainy spring), Moira and David certainly did! Moira was extremely flexible in designing a long-stay option for me and provided all the necessary resources. They truly treated me as a guest, and helped me make the most of my time in St. Aignan.

Le Carroir is a wonderful residence in a quiet part of a charming town. Everyone I met was extremely friendly and I loved being able to get a slice of la vie française. Everything in the property was as-advertised. I only wish the weather had been nicer so I could have taken more advantage of the garden!

I cannot recommend Le Carroir (or really any Loire Cottage property that Moira manages) enough. It was a wonderful experience and I am glad to continue the friendship!

What a lovely place to stay in the middle of this beautiful little town on the Cher river. Saint Aignan is very placed to go sightseeing and has some lovely bars and restaurants. Very comfortable accommodation with all mod cons.

Historic home

  • 4 of 5

A wonderfully quirky little medieval house in a preserved area, lovely private 'secret garden' - just a little too far from the house. The house was clean and well looked after, the owners very welcoming, really going the extra mile in providing toys! We loved the ancient vertical stairs but elderly or infirm or toddlers would not manage this. Neighbours VERY noisy but friendly. The town was nice, perhaps a little dull with no public transport (we didn't have a car & long walk to trains) but would be a good base. Shops very close and good quality. The wonderful zoo is the best I've EVER seen (go early to see the giant pandas REALLY close up!) Enjoyed local riverboat trip, canoeing and outdoor swimming pool.

Owner's Response: Thank you very much for taking the time to write a review of Le Carroir. It is much appreciated. We are pleased to say that the noisy neighbours have gone and peace has been restored to our little corner! Le Carroir certainly is the ideal base from which to explore all that the area has to offer, and a car, although not essential as you have proved, does give the opportunity to make the most of your stay. I wholeheartedly agree with you about the Zoo Parc Beauval! I grew up in Edinburgh and was a regular visitor to its' zoo, but Zoo Parc Beauval beats it hands down! Not to be missed! We have made the riverboat trip twice and would certainly recommend it too. Other visitors have also enjoyed the swimming pool, saying what a great pool it is (and warm) and what good value it is compared to British prices! Best wishes Moira

Location, location, location

  • 4 of 5

The best thing about this townhouse was its location - in a nice little town with almost everything necessary (no laudromat for clothes drying, tho') and easy walking distance to everything (the boulangerie was wonderful and the people in the Tourist Office very helpful). A well-equipped kitchen, a clean house and a very helpful, courteous owner. So central to everything so driving anywhere to see chateaus or shop in Tours and Blois is easy and the train to Paris (reserve early to avoid high fares) is so fast from St. Pierre du Corps. A beautiful chateau in the town (not open to the public but the grounds are open for walking) just blocks away. We were there a month (a cold and rainy one, unfortunately, even though it was April) but relished life in St Aignan. For information about what life is like there, read the blog, Living Life in St. Aignan by an ex-pat American who has lived there ten years.

A car rental is located at the Super U about half a mile out of town and a rail station is a long walk or a short taxi ride across the river so a car is not absolutely necessary but is recommended.

Owner's Response: Thank you Linda for taking the time to write a review of your stay in Le Carroir. It is much appreciated. You have highlighted the excellent location of the house for its access to all that the region has to offer and that a car is not necessary (but easier with!). We did have an Australian couple with two small children staying for two months without a car! The wonderful Zoo Parc Beauval here in St Aignan is a great pull for families along with other family orientated places like Futoroscope, the Aquarium of Touraine and Mini Chateaux Park to name a few. Best wishes Moira

We were actually looking for a country cottage when the estate agent showed us this house! We fell in love with it! It has the benefit of being right in the centre of the town with great access to all the local amenities and it has great original features: the carved heads on the facade, the oak staircase and beams.
