Villa in Begur, Costa Brava - Pool, Jacuzzi, Incredible Views from All Rooms and Terraces

Hillside house with stunning sea views from all rooms, just outside the magical town of Begur in Catalan Spain. The spacious family home is available to rent year round. Situated in a quiet, secluded neighbourhood with scattered luxury villas on a forested hill. No high-rise hotels nearby. Begur, a beautifully preserved mediaeval town, is 90 minutes north of Barcelona, and 45 minutes from Gerona, in the unspoilt portion of the Catalan coast. The three-story house sleeps six comfortably, and has two balconies and four sunny patios. The garden area includes a private pool and a jacuzzi (particularly welcome during off season lets). Sea views from the balconies are superb. Five secluded beaches are accessible by car, with the closest five minutes away. Five excellent golf courses nearby, playable all year round. Begur, with its charming hilltop castle, is within walking distance and has fantastic restaurants and boutiques along its narrow, ancient streets.

About the Owner

We live in the magical Scottish town of St Andrews where Jerry is a history professor and a freelance journalist and Sharon runs her own media relations business, with clients in the oil, high tech and tourist industries. We have two children, aged 17 and 20. We love St Andrews because of its tranquility and charm, not to mention the fact that we hardly need a car. Our home in Begur is essentially a Spanish translation of what we have in Scotland, namely a comfortable, cozy hideaway in a quiet neighbourhood, near a town that combines cutting edge classiness with intoxicating historical charm. We love travel, great food and fine wine, interests which influenced our choice when we came to buy a house in Spain. The only thing wrong with our life is that we don't get to Spain often enough.

Guestbook comments from the owner

My wife and I searched long and hard for just the right place to spend our 25th anniversary. We'd heard great things about Begur, so we knew that was where we wanted to go, but found it hard sifting through all the properties available. But then, a friend had stayed at Casa Buenavista and recommended it to us. From the beginning, we found Jerry the perfect host -- he responded in super fast time and was always ready with helpful advice whenever we had a question. When we arrived, we found a perfect house in perfect condition. I have to say that it would be hard to find a cleaner place. The new kitchen is superbly well equipped and all the other rooms are furnished and decorated in a simple, clean and homey way. It didn't seem at all like a holiday home, more like a real home. The pool was spotlessly clean and the cleaner came twice during the week we stayed. The brand new jacuzzi was also wonderful -- much better than we anticipated and no extra charge for heating. It would be difficult to find a better holiday home at the price, which we found to be much lower than other properties in the area. We would recommend this house to others and hopefully come back before too long.

Best holiday rental ever

  • 5 of 5

We like to stay in holiday homes rather than hotels, so we have a lot of experience renting. I can honestly say that this was the most pleasant experience we have had with renting. The enquiry process went incredibly smoothly, thanks entirely to Jerry's lightning quick and very informative responses. We always have a lot of questions, yet Jerry answered them all with politeness and patience. Then, when we got to the house, we found it spotlessly clean and very well equipped. The furnishings are simple but tasteful, with some nicely quirky prints, posters, and paintings on the wall to add a bit of splash. I was surprised at how well stocked the kitchen was -- far nicer than any rental I've stayed in. The pool and jacuzzi were both perfection. And, of course, the view from all parts of the house is superb.

We wanted to do some cycling while we were in Begur and asked Jerry for information on where bikes might be rented. He didn't just give us the name of a shop but instead arranged for bikes to be delivered to the house so that they were there when we arrived and were picked up when we departed. He also provided information on nice places to cycle to -- and places to avoid.

So, all in all, it was a superb trip. Houses in Begur can be very expensive, but, comparing prices and facilities, we found that Casa Buenavista was a bargain. We will definitely return and tell our friends about our wonderful holiday.

Owner's Response: Thanks so much for the lovely review; it's means so much to us that guest enjoy our house as we put a lot of attention into making it nice. I'm also glad you appreciated the bikes: it is a great place to cycle, though not for the faint-hearted!

Beautiful villa with a magical view

  • 5 of 5

I am already missing this beautiful villa in Begur. The memory of waking up to such a serene ocean view every morning will stay with us for many months.

The villa is fantastic and boasts multiple luxuries; three bedrooms, two pools, one Jacuzzi and multiple terraces. The BBQ area was a favourite of ours to dine at, overseeing the magical ocean view in the background. The kitchen was well-equipped and the house was well stocked with all necessities like towels, bed linen etc. The villa is in a quiet neighbourhood so we slept incredibly well.

Begur is also a charming historical town, with a beautiful village square and winding streets lined with great restaurants and local shops. On the top of the hill is an old Romanesque fortress with spectacular views of the surrounding countryside. There are several beaches and waterfront places to discover only few minutes away by car.

We couldn’t ask for a better or more attending host who made sure every enquiry was quickly responded to. If we experienced any issues he was always on hand to sort them out.

Overall you’d be hard pressed to find better value for money and a nicer host! We are already planning to return next summer.

Thank you for a great stay!

Slice of Heaven!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I searched for a vacation home rental and stumbled upon this little slice of heaven.

From the moment you walk in the door...the experience begins. Every window overlooks the Mediterranean Sea. Every detail of the home has been taken into consideration, the comfortable family room, the fully stocked kitchen, the beautiful bedrooms, the amazing pool.

The location is exceptional! We took day trips all over Spain and into France. The town of Begur is very welcoming to visitors; the cobble stone streets are directly out of a storybook!

I can not say enough how easy it was to book with Jerry and Sharron. They were prompt to respond to my emails and answered all of my questions about the area. When we arrived the details were taken care of and our vacation went extremely smoothly.

I would highly recomend staying at the Villa. We are planning to return

Summer of 2017 with the extended family for my 40th Birthday! Cheers

Majestic

  • 5 of 5

The first impression that any guest will have of this property is the breathtaking view, which offers a vista of the Med in all its majesty. The hot tub and swimming pool, located on tiered patios to the back of the property, offer the perfect space in which this scenery can be enjoyed - in my case often over a bottle of wine or two.

The property itself is clean, functional and airy, all of which contributes to a relaxing holiday feel. It is situated about five to ten minutes drive away from Begur and Sa Tuna, both of which have lots to offer in terms of activities, bars and restaurants.

We enjoyed every minute of our experience and would certainly recommend this property to friends and family. It is definitely a bargain at the price and we would consider going back again given how much we enjoyed it.

Stunning location and house

  • 5 of 5

This is a truly beautiful location with some of the best views in Spain. The house is smartly decorated and was very clean, with lots of extra blankets, bedding, etc. if you need it. The kitchen is well stocked with utensils if you want to cook, which we did most nights as we had two young children with us and therefore eating out at night wasn't suitable for us.

The house is roomy and I'd highly recommend putting the table out on the balcony for breakfast, lunch and dinner...you can just stare at the amazing view!!

The hot tub is brilliant and the pool was very clean, although we only used it once (late March was still pretty chilly!).

All in all an excellent house and highly recommended!!

Calm, Restful Retreat with Stunning Views

  • 5 of 5

'Wow' pretty much sums up our time at this house and in Begur in general! Between the house, the town and the stunning coastline, we were incredibly spoiled during our stay.

The house was exactly as listed, spotlessly clean and beautifully maintained. My partner, the chef, found everything he needed in the kitchen and enjoyed firing up the BBQ on the top terrace most evenings, from where the views of the sunset were nothing short of spectacular.

The pool was a great size, sparklingly clean and also shared the same gorgeous vista over the coastline; we spent several days on this terrace enjoying the weather and cooling off at our leisure in the water, pure bliss.

Begur itself is an historic town, full of beauty and delicious food. There are lots of local wares for sale in the little shops lining the streets and so many great restaurants to suit a variety of tastes, my only tip is to book a table to avoid disappointment.

The owner was a dream to deal with - great communication both prior to our stay and during, when we'd asked for restaurant recommendations and received a message back almost immediately. Friendly and responsive, they made the booking process very easy.

If you're looking for somewhere calm and restful with beautiful views and a myriad of activities in the local area, then this is the property for you!

Location

From the Owner

We had been planning to buy a house in Marbella, but were put off by the fact that it didn't seem 'real', but instead something manufactured for wealthy tourists. We happened upon Begur entirely by accident when Jerry booked a golfing holiday in Spain and had his accommodation changed at the last minute, ending up at the Hotel Aigua Blava, about 10 minutes from Begur. On the first morning, he was sitting in the charming square enjoying a coffee and phoned home to say: 'This is where we have to buy a house.' A month later the whole family came out to look for a house to buy. We were scheduled to see eight properties on the first day. Casa Buena Vista was the fifth. When we got inside and saw the stunning views, we quit looking. We had found everything we wanted.

Activity and Interests

Nearest Airport : Girona at 40 Miles Nearest Barpub : Begur at 1 Miles Nearest Restaurant : Begur at 1 Miles Nearest Beach : Sa Tuna at 2 Miles Car: recommended

Coast/Beach:

Many lovely coves for swimming and relaxing. Most with a handful of restaurants that offer authentic Spanish cuisine. Not a chip shop in sight! Five minutes drive to several beaches nearby, including Sa Riera, Sa Tuna, Fornells and Aiguablava.

Travel:

Girona, Spain is closest airport, just 45km to house. Fly cheap on Ryanair from most UK airports. Also EasyJet to Barcelona. Barcelona airport is a 90 mins - 2 hour drive from the house. From USA, Continental has direct flights from Newark, NJ to Barcelona.

Distances:

One mile drive or walk to centre of Begur. Other villages and towns like medieval Pals are only a 10 min drive. Day trips to Salvador Dali's home and museum are well worth the 1/2 hour drive to Pubol or 1 hour drive to Figueres. Further out on the coast, visit his summer home in Cadaques, a beautiful little fishing village. Girona is a lovely medieval, walled city with a stunning cathedral. Walk the town walls and see the university. Great shopping, restaurants and easy parking that's free!

Further Details:

We have a property manager in Begur who can help with questions about the area or the property. He speaks excellent English, French, Dutch, Spanish and Catalan. In addition, the tourist information office in the town is outstanding. It is recommended that guests hire a car for their entire stay, in order to get the most out of this extraordinarily beautiful area. A few guests have, however, gone without a car and made do with a combination of buses, taxis and walking. During the high season, there is a regular bus every half hour from the town centre to the main beaches at Sa Riera and Aiguablava.

Facilities

From the Owner

Every time we go to our house, we love it more and congratulate ourselves on buying it. We love the fact that we can enjoy all the benefits of one of the loveliest towns in Catalan Spain, but are still conveniently distanced from the town itself in a quiet neighbourhood walking distance away. The same goes with the beaches - they are gorgeous, but it is nice being that short distance away, especially in the summer. We love our house because, the minute we walk in the door, we get that wonderful feeling of decompression and calm. We slow down, breathe deeper, and feel no pressure to do anything other than relax. One of the nicest things about the place is being able to sit in the jacuzzi, watch the moon reflected on the Med, and just let that warm feeling of contentment engulf us.
