About Susan

I'm Susan and I've been running my gîte business since 2002 with my 2 children, Kristen (14) and Olivier (8)

Having experienced gîte holidays with my family when I was young I fell in love with France at an early age. I've had a lot of previous experience in the hospitality business and have used this to create a comfortable, well equipped and child friendly accommodation - a real home from home.

Whilst not looking after the gîtes I keep myself busy by teaching English. In doing so I’ve learned a lot about the region and have a good knowledge of local events, excellent restaurants and the most interesting places to visit – many off the beaten tourist track.

I'm bilingual and available to help out at any time. I’m also a keen runner and know the local footpaths and walks in the area.

Susan purchased this cottage in 2002

Why Susan chose Tremblay

Why did I choose to buy here in Brittany? Well, perhaps not for the hot sunny weather – a mediterreanean climate it doesn’t have. However, Brittany is one of the most beautiful regions in France, surrounded by coastline, pretty and well maintained countryside and villages and not too far from the channel ports. A bit like Cornwall but cheaper, with better roads and of course, a very different culture. Crêpes and cider instead of cream teas. Fruits de mer instead of fish and chips. Not too long a drive for families with young children and a warm climate and not too hot in the summer to spend the day on the beach or around the pool, unlike the South of France.

We are not too remote the nearest shops, bakeries and supermarket are 5 mins drive away.

What makes this cottage unique

My aim has been to create a home from home with the accommodation offered. Every gîte retains its original character and comfort is a priority – from good mattresses to a well equipped kitchen and a properly heated swimming pool. The garden is one of the most important features of my gites – it can be accessed directly from the back door of every gite and it is a safe haven for children to explore, play and make new friends.

In my experience if the children are happy, the parents are happy!

Bikes for all ages are available to explore the local footpaths and nearby disused railway track. We are within 30 minutes of Mont St Michel, the second most visited tourist attraction in France, and some of the most beautiful beaches in Brittany and Normandy are less than an hour's drive away.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Trip Advisor reviews can be seen on the owners website.

"This was the sixth French gite holiday we have had and the cottage was by far the best equipped and the cleanest we have stayed in so far. We will be coming back next year" (Mrs P, Manchester)

"We have had some bad experiences of French gites before, such as properties not being cleaned and misleading descriptions of the garden, but yours lived up to everything on the advertisement and more. We've had a great holiday and you've been excellent hosts" (Mrs B, Notts)

"Thanks for letting us use the bikes and exploring the local countryside - we've had a lovely time and the pool was fabulous" (Mr T, Hailsham)

Notes on accommodation: Very child friendly accommodation. Outside: Heated Pool: The pool is open from April to October. It measures 10m x 5m with depths from 1m to 1.8m and has Roman steps for easy access in and out. The pool area is fully enclosed and has lockable double action security gates. The pool itself is fitted with an all weather cover which corresponds to the new French swimming pool security regulations. The cover can be rolled on or off during the day and when on, the pool is transformed into an indoor pool - so if the weather is cool you can still enjoy a swim in comfort! It also keeps the pool temperature very warm, so it's comfortable to swim in even in spring and autumn. The pool is heated to 28°c (even in Spring and Autumn!) Sunbeds, cushions and parasols are provided for guests to use for relaxing around the pool. Every cottage has its own patio area with a lovely view out to the garden. Barbecues, tables, chairs and parasols are provided for each cottage. Play area for young children: trampoline (safety net), swings and slide
