About the property

Country Cottage in Treneglos, Nr. Boscastle, Cornwall - The Ideal Retreat In The Beautiful Cornish Countryside

Situated in the unspoilt Parish of Treneglos is Higher Scarsick a working Dairy and Sheep farm which has been farmed by the French Family since the early 1920's. Treneglos is mid way between the towns of Launceston, Bude and Camelford and approx 8.5 miles to Boscastle and Crackington Haven is a delightful place to spend your holiday surrounded by beautiful rolling countryside yet only a short drive to the wonderful sandy beaches on the North Cornwall Coast and very convenient for the variety of tourist attractions and leisure pursuits Cornwall has to offer. The cottage has been renovated over recent years and has retained many original features, including oak beams, stone inglenooks and a bread oven. Each year we take steps to inprove the cottage so that it is cosy and inviting for all seasons. This year we have refurbished the bathroom and one of the double bedrooms now en suite. The cottage now has 2 showers and 2 toilets as well as a bath.Step outside to a large garden where you can hear the birds singing and enjoy the stunning views and if you care to take a short walk down the lane there is a small stream which is particularly beautiful in the spring and autumn.

Please ask for your holiday requirements I do try to accommodate where possible

The cottage is located avoiding the continuing road works on the A30 between Launceston and Bodmin, we are constantly hearing of horrendous traffic delays which is not a good start or end to any holiday.

About Heather French

I am a Farmers Daughter and then married into a farming family and I absolutely love living here at Higher Scarsick. Life is busy but the view from my office is constantly changing with the seasons and I can see Dartmoor on the Horizon.

20th September Plenty happening on the farm but the weather is a bit miserable making the countryside looking a bit glum, but it is very cosy in the cottage. We have a few sheep lambing from our flock of Poll Dorset Sheep so there are lambs to bottle feed and the cows are calving fast and furious so plenty of calves to feed.

Why Heather French chose Treneglos

People that have stayed with us recently have told us we are ideally located to explore Cornwall during their stay and are able to avoid the traffic delays on the morning of departure. We are only about 1 hour to Exeter and about 2 hours to Bristol.

What makes this cottage unique

Surrounded by the beautiful Cornish Countryside yet only a short drive to all that Cornwall offers

Very good, clean and modern for a very old farmhouse

  • 5 of 5

We loved the house and being so rural. Kitchen well stocked with utensils etc. Bathroom, kitchen and decor throughout was modern and fresh. All very clean. Wish we could have stayed longer!

Cosy and comfortable, with a wonderful location.

  • 5 of 5

We had the best of both worlds. At the farm its quiet and rural, lovely.

Or we had a short drive to the coast to exercise the dog on the beach,

and have a bit of lunch. Who could ask for more.

A lovely peaceful home from home!!

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our Cornish holiday - our cottage was absolutely beautiful and so lovely to come home to at the end of the day. Our hosts - heather and les - were very welcoming and friendly, as was everyone working the farms around us!

The cottage was immaculate with a very cosy living room, delightful kitchen and three large bedrooms with beautiful bathroom and en-suite.

Cannot recommend this cottage enough - it definitely deserves 5 stars !!!

lovely cottage.

  • 5 of 5

Fully modernized house without loosing its character. Looked like a new kitchen and well equipped too. Also looked like a new bathroom and en-suite, all lovely. Peaceful location and beautiful views over the fields and countryside from the garden. We visited Boscastle and Tintagel, also The Eden Project and The lost gardens of Helligan and loved them all. Heather (the owner) was very friendly and also told us directions to a patchwork shop and café etc which my Mum was very pleased to find. All in all we loved our stay.

Location

With the continuing road works on the A30 between Launceston and Bodmin we are constantly hearing of horrendous traffic delays. Our cottage is located to avoid these delays on the morning of departure and to easily tour Cornwall and parts of Devon during your stay. We are about 1 hour to Exeter and 2 hours to Bristol.

Coast/Beach:

The North Cornwall coast is pickled with beautiful sandy beaches and coves. The nearest being Crackington Haven which is a 15min drive. For surfing we recommend Polzeath which is a 45 min drive (Approx)

Travel:

A car is essential for holidaying at Higher Scarsick. However it is 8 miles from the A30 and 3 miles from the A395 making it very accessible for all parts of the country

There is an airport at Newquay and main line Railway Station at Bodmin.
