About the property

Peaceful Location, private pool, Walking Distance to Village Centre, 20min Drive to Beach

This contemporary villa sits in an acre of a beautifully landscaped garden with a olive grove, orchard as well as lavender and rosemarie bushes and various flower beds. It sleeps 6 in 3 bedrooms, has a 16m by 4m swimming pool and ample parking. The house is 1km away from Aubais centre and 20+ mins drive to private and open beaches. Activities in the area are riding, golf, cycling, canal trips, sailing, swimming, golf and many culturural events and festivals. As expected, food, wine and shopping is very good in farmers, as well as super markets. The property is 20 min from Nime and Montpellier airport, serviced by Ryanair, EasyJet and Air France. It takes 3.5 hours by TGV from Paris to Nimes and approximately 11 hours from London by car.

There are probably 2400 inhabitants but I don’t know everybody so I haven’t counted them.

There is a Chateau, which has been presided over variously by a protestant, a catholic and a Muslim all from the same family. It is now divided into several sections most of which are inhabited and is not unlike a rather grand terrace of houses. Some of it is falling down, sadly, but a marvellous crop of figues could be harvested annually from the roof of the centre section if you had a head of heights.

The main social event of the year is the Fête d’Aubais. It is in early August and is ten days of cours Carmaguaise, abbrivados and bandidos, petanque and a small amount of Pastis, rouge, rose and Get are imbedded or is it a lot, no one can recall. At lunchtime there is an “apero mousse” which is a drink and a dance in a communal bubble bath. Later, in the evening there is a corse de nuit with the “jeunesse” a pool and small bulls. Last year we had the famous El Mosquito, Taurean clown demonstrate the art of Corrida.

Aubais styles itself as an artistic Village and indeed has some imminent French artists working there. There are frequent exhibitions and open studios. Musical events and activities are plentiful and of a very high standard.

There is a new restaurant “Maje” - please let me know what you think. There is the Cave Co-op with a small menu to go with the wine “Aubais Mëma” which has a beautiful nose, a full mouth and happy memories of Aubais if you want to stick to one bottle only. The village has a very good epicure and patisserie, a hairdresser for ‘Him and Her” tabac, boulangerie, pizzeria, paella van and a pharmacy.

Madam le Maire is are ultimately in charge of the village but most real governance happens in the Café Renaissance, at least that is the regular’s perception of matters. In some ways they are correct.

Whilst my work takes me round the world, Aubais gives me a real sense of pleasure and pride.The house has undergone some major upgrading (2016) and the exterior is now in keeping with the architecture of the main house - contemporary and true to Jean Prouve's style, philosophy and design. My two daughters often join me for some quality time and I have taken great pride in making this something that can be enjoyed on many levels. It is a place that makes you want to 'do more, see more and be more' or, just hang out. Enjoy!

I bought this property because of the peaceful location, surroundings and friends. But also, because of it's easy accesibility and travel infrastructure.

What makes this villa unique

The benefits are many - recharge batteries, be active in the fresh air, cycle, walk, swim and enjoy the food and wine. I love diving into the pool first thing before walking to the bakery to fetch fresh croissants and the inevitable baguette.

Truly a genuine oasis of calm in a busy and noisy world.

The villa is comfortable and very conveniently located and is very well equipped. The pool is a delight.

Relaxing Holiday Villa

We had a really lovely stay here for two weeks in August with our three young sons who are aged 3, 5, 8. The owner, Micha was very friendly and helpful and the villa was clean and well equipped. We loved the huge garden with lots of space to play games and the swimming pool. It was a little deep for the children but with arm bands and swimming aids they become more confident and really enjoyed cooling off. The weather was really hot, so most nights we stayed up late and often went into the local towns and villages where there were festivals and various entertainment. The villa is not far from the seaside, we went to La Grande Motte which was great for families.

We had an amazing time in this villa, it was very calm and relaxed with the grounds of the villa offering so much space. The villa was really well furnished and decorated. The private swimming-pool is a real luxury and the beaches are only 25 mins away. In the evening the veranda allows evening meals to be enjoyed outside with the gentle noise of the crickets as company. The person in charge of the villa was really helpful and offered his assistance during our stay with things to do and restaurants and attractions to visit. The villa is ideally located for the enticing visits to the charming and sophisticated city of Montpellier and the historical attractions of Nimes, Arles and St Remy de Provence. Highly recommended.

20 minute drive to beach. Suitable for families. Espiguette stretches for kilometre after kilometre of fine sandy dunes. This beach is big enough to find your own space, no matter how many people are there. The walk from the car park can be as long as you want. There are no buildings near by, but in summer the odd drinks seller will pass by. Near Aigues Mortes.


20 minutes drive from Nimes and Montpellier airport, 3.5 hours by TGV from Paris to Nimes.
