Brilliant house and pool, and close to nice town
About the Owner
We are Mandy and Jon and we live in Wimbledon with our two daughters Alice & Emily. Mandy is an event manager and Jon manages quality for a digital technology company.
We first fell in love with Istria in 2005 and our first property came shortly afterwards. We now have 3 beautifully restored properties in amazing locations.
We have always taken our holidays in privately rented villas or houses and have often been disappointed with the quality and style of accommodation that is provided.
We set out on this venture in Istria with a vision to create ‘rustic but stylish’ accommodation to a quality level that allows us to enjoy our valuable holiday time at anyone of our properties.
We believe we have succeeded and 9 years of amazing feedback from OD guests also supports this.
Mandy purchased this villa in 2005
Why Mandy chose Porec area
Stranici is a lovely Istrian village , very quiet and peaceful with really never much happening.
You are minutes away from all of the best stuff Istria has to offer - 20 mins to the coast, Limski Kanal is 5 mins away and this is a little gem .with amazing views and seafood restaurants. Porec, Rovinj and Vrsar (to name but a few) are all within easy reach.
The waterpark 'AquaColors' is a great new addition to the area and again this is just 20 mins away.
What makes this villa unique
The Casitas themselves are awesome, old stonehouses from the outside with stylish and very comfortable accommodation inside - Our attention to style and detail is something that sets us apart from other owners. It's really hard to find stylish furniture in Croatia, but we think it is worth the effort!

Brilliant house and pool, and close to nice town
A very nice stay, lovely garden, lovely pool and lovely house! Close to a really nice village/town and its close to lots of lovely cities like Pula. There are a lot of mosquitoes and wasps about so if you are allergic, bring some spray or tablets. Very good overall!!!!
Mandy's information was very helpful regarding car hire location facilities etc.
Property was clean and adequate for 2 people. Bedroom became extremely hot towards the end of second week when temperatures reached 37 degrees and the two fans were insufficient.
Local restaurants and food excellent and good value for money.
Porec Vrsar , Rovinj, Limski Kanal all worth visiting.
Pula for the Roman ruins
Brilliant correspondence before and after our stay. The instructions of how to find the house made it very obvious and easy. The property (casita one) was clean, as described and accurately represented in the photos.
We were given information on things to do in the area before our stay and there was more information when we arrived at the house. We were travelling with a little one and the owner had arranged a host of books, toys and equipment to help make our stay easy - we really appreciated this! We had a wonderful time even though the weather wasn't always kind to us. We would like to return to both the area and this accommodation and would highly recommend both.
Stunning Stone Cottage
We stayed in Casita One for 12 days in July, it is a beautiful stone cottage in a stunning region of Croatia steeped in history, there is a definite Italian feel to the area. You will need to hire a car as the cottages are in the small hamlet of Stranici, the nearest shop is 3km away in Sveti Lovrec. The owner's directions make it easy to find, whether you're flying in to Pula or Trieste airports.
On first impression the pool looks a lot smaller than it appears in the pictures, however it is quite a nice size, perfect for a quick dip to cool down. There is no air con in either of the Casitas, we knew this before we went but with July temp reaching 39 degrees it did become quite an issue. The plug in fans provided just circulated hot air around the room which made sleeping quite unbearable. The stone cottage was so hot inside and noticeably more so as you walked upstairs. The cottage is fully equipped with a good kitchen and washing machine, although it might be an idea for the owners to leave directions on how to use the cooker and washing machine as we had to guess and hope for the best. There is no wifi at the Casitas but every cafe and restaurant had free wifi.
Istria has an absolutely stunning coastline, but in terms of beaches it doesn't have the best. However, we found a small handful of nice beaches, they are all pebble beaches which turn to larger rocks as you go into the sea so you will need shoes to walk in the water with. Vrsar is only 20 mins drive away and the water was so clear, lots of fish, there are a couple of hotels in Vrsar, don't go to the beach by the hotels as it is crowded and quite small, go to the other side of the Marina, larger beach and less crowded. A little further away is Rabac, approx 1 hour drive, that too has a lovely large beach. The little town of Valun on the island of Cres also has a great beach, you'll need to get the ferry there. It took an hour to drive to the port of Brestova which is then a 20 min crossing to the port of Porozina on Cres island. It cost us 150kn each way for 2 adults, 1 car - that's approx £15 each way.
Other towns that we loved were Pula (45 mins drive) which had an amazing Roman Amphithetre rivaling the one in Rome, Rovinj (30 min drive) is a MUST see as it is absolutley beautiful and Porec too (20 min drive) has great little cobbled narrow streets that come alive at night.
4km from the cottages there is an amazing Grill restaurant called the Gradina Grill, you must try it, beautiful food!
Beautiful, well equipped cottage in a lovely setting. Casita one is the perfect place to explore Istria with Rovinj and Porec within easy driving distance. Peaceful village location and only a short drive to nearest shops and restaurants. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay, the cottage is well looked after and the pool and patio area a perfect place to relax and unwind.
Mandy was very helpful, responding quickly all our questions. Will be recommending to all our friends and family.

Activity and Interests
5km to the scenic Limski Kanal, a turquoise fjord, renowned for its superb seafood restaurants.
12 km to Vsar marina.
17 km to coastal resort of Porec. (Ferry service to Venice).
20km to the coastal Venetian town of Rovinj.
30 km to the Brijuni National Park.
Pula (Ryanair) 30 minute drive. Trieste (Ryanair) 90 minute drive. Rijeka (Ryanair) 2 hour drive. Venice Treviso (Ryanair) 2.5 hour drive. Venice Marco Polo (Ryanair) 2.5 hour drive.
Nearest village of Sveti Lovrec (3km) for basic groceries, post office, restaurant, bar and cafe. Medieval hill towns of Motovun and Groznjan are within a short drive (30 minutes) as is Pula, home to the 6th largest amphitheatre in the world.
A full range of sporting and leisure facilities are within easy reach.
Sveti Lovrec is just 3km away and lies on a hill with a wonderful view over tame fields, vineyards, olive groves and the sea in the distance. Its name goes back to the 6th century and stems from the Church of Sv. Lovro (Saint Lawrence). It's not all idyllic views, churches and history, you will also find shops for basic groceries, a bar, cafe and pizzeria. Porec is the well known tourist centre of Istria. The old part of the town is built on a small peninsula separated from the mainland by a canal, and protected from the open sea by the island of Sveti Nikola. The popular beaches “Plava laguna” and “Zelena laguna” are located to the south and offer a variety of water sports. The old town is absolutely beautiful with a plethora of restaurants, bars, cafes and ice-cream parlours. There are farmers markets where you can buy local produce (olive oil, bread, meat, fruit, honey, truffles etc.) and various festivals throughout the year provide plenty of entertainment. Porec is a popular ‘resort’ however it still looks and feels rustic and remains true to its history with some outstanding architecture. The Café Bar Torre Rotonda (round tower) is a great spot for a sun downer. Rovinj is another beautiful Croatian walled town built on a small peninsula. Architecturally it looks very similar to Porec - located on small peninsula, surrounded by sea with its historic centre (modelled on Venice). Rovinj offers a whole range of visitor opportunities in a picturesque ambience of the ancient town, surrounded by dense pine forests. The medieval hill towns of Motovun and Groznjan (our favourite) are within a short drive (30 minutes) as is Pula, home to the 6th largest amphitheatre in the world. There are also 2 waterparks in Istria - one near Porec and one near Novigrad.
