About the Owner

We are Mandy and Jon and we live in Wimbledon with our two daughters Alice & Emily. Mandy is an event manager and Jon manages quality for a digital technology company.

We first fell in love with Istria in 2005 and our first property came shortly afterwards. We now have 3 beautifully restored properties in amazing locations.

We have always taken our holidays in privately rented villas or houses and have often been disappointed with the quality and style of accommodation that is provided.

We set out on this venture in Istria with a vision to create ‘rustic but stylish’ accommodation to a quality level that allows us to enjoy our valuable holiday time at anyone of our properties.

We believe we have succeeded and 9 years of amazing feedback from OD guests also supports this.

Casita One - Recommended by the Sunday Times Travel (Aug 13) as one of the "25 best cottages and European villas for couples".

"We loved the house and pool and ended up spending quite a few days just sitting around, reading, swimming & generally enjoying being there."

"We had a great holiday at Casita 1 and thoroughly enjoyed Istria- thank you! Your cottages are lovely and really well placed to visit the whole of Istria. The management of the cottages was excellent-everything worked perfectly."

"The villa was gorgeous, as was Croatia itself! A lot of time was spent lazing by the pool but we did take a drive to the Baredine Cave and a boat trip around some of the islands. Definitely wasn't very happy about leaving that's for sure!"

Outstanding location in a stunning part of the world. The property itself is a lovely villa and had everything we needed. I think the lack of AC is the only thing preventing it getting 5 stars, but there are fans provided. I strongly recommend the area and the property. A car is an absolute must also.

small but perfectly formed

Super little house in a great position to explore Istria. Simply and stylishly decorated and extremely clean. The shared pool gives you a chance to get to know the neighbours but you can still retreat to the peace of your own terrace when desired.

Highly recommended place for stay!

  • 5 of 5

The place is really calm, its a perfect place to relax and rest from big city life. Neighborhood is calm, the house is comfortable, spacious, well equipped. The pool next to the house is something you will really appreciate. Owner is easy to contact with, and very helpful. We really enjoyed our holiday!

Wonderfully relaxing Villa

  • 5 of 5

What a little gem in the Istrian Countryside.

Perfectly located close to a lot of attractions and cities, but far enough away from the madding crowds for you to totally unwind.

The villas are well equipped, clean, modern, airy with comfy beds and the pool is perfect to jump into and freshen up inbetween chapters of you book. Mandy, our host, was very attentive in the build up and communicated well throughout the lead up to the holiday.

Istra is an area we hadn't been to before and we were suitably impressed. Rovinj is only about 20 minutes away and was stunning - a must see. Other beaches around Vsar are even closer. Porec and Novigrad also well worth a visit - even Pula is only about 25 minutes away on the new toll road. (Not expensive). Food at every restaurant was great - the Pizza place in the village nearby was top notch and great value too.

If you are still reading this - you can probably guess we'd have no hesitation in recommending the Caistas. Every evening when we got back after a day out it was like coming home and we breathed a sigh of relief we were not staying on the coast with all the hustle and bustle!

We travelled with 2 teenagers and it worked well.

Enjoy your holidays.

Thanks for a top holiday.

Lovely Stay in Croatia

  • 4 of 5

The accommodation was very nice and clean and had everything we needed. Ideal for our family holiday, and a good size pool for the kids, that they had to themselves for much of the time, and loungers for sunbathing. Both couples we saw in the other property were really nice. You need a car to get out and about, much to see which was close by, Porec, Vrsar and Rovinj were all lovely for an evening out, Rovinj being the highlight. The whole of Istria is easy to get about with quiet roads and a beautiful area to investigate.

From the Owner

Stranici is a lovely Istrian village , very quiet and peaceful with really never much happening. You are minutes away from all of the best stuff Istria has to offer - 20 mins to the coast, Limski Kanal is 5 mins away and this is a little gem .with amazing views and seafood restaurants. Porec, Rovinj and Vrsar (to name but a few) are all within easy reach. The waterpark 'AquaColors' is a great new addition to the area and again this is just 20 mins away.

Nearest village of Sveti Lovrec (3km) for basic groceries, post office, restaurant, bar and cafe. Medieval hill towns of Motovun and Groznjan are within a short drive (30 minutes) as is Pula, home to the 6th largest amphitheatre in the world.

A full range of sporting and leisure facilities are within easy reach.

Further Details:

Sveti Lovrec is just 3km away and lies on a hill with a wonderful view over tame fields, vineyards, olive groves and the sea in the distance. Its name goes back to the 6th century and stems from the Church of Sv. Lovro (Saint Lawrence). It's not all idyllic views, churches and history, you will also find shops for basic groceries, a bar, cafe and pizzeria. Porec is the well known tourist centre of Istria. The old part of the town is built on a small peninsula separated from the mainland by a canal, and protected from the open sea by the island of Sveti Nikola. The popular beaches “Plava laguna” and “Zelena laguna” are located to the south and offer a variety of water sports. The old town is absolutely beautiful with a plethora of restaurants, bars, cafes and ice-cream parlours. There are farmers markets where you can buy local produce (olive oil, bread, meat, fruit, honey, truffles etc.) and various festivals throughout the year provide plenty of entertainment. Porec is a popular ‘resort’ however it still looks and feels rustic and remains true to its history with some outstanding architecture. The Café Bar Torre Rotonda (round tower) is a great spot for a sun downer. Rovinj is another beautiful Croatian walled town built on a small peninsula. Architecturally it looks very similar to Porec - located on small peninsula, surrounded by sea with its historic centre (modelled on Venice). Rovinj offers a whole range of visitor opportunities in a picturesque ambience of the ancient town, surrounded by dense pine forests. The medieval hill towns of Motovun and Groznjan (our favourite) are within a short drive (30 minutes) as is Pula, home to the 6th largest amphitheatre in the world. There are also 2 waterparks in Istria - one near Porec and one near Novigrad.

From the Owner

The Casitas themselves are awesome, old stonehouses from the outside with stylish and very comfortable accommodation inside - Our attention to style and detail is something that sets us apart from other owners. It's really hard to find stylish furniture in Croatia, but we think it is worth the effort!
