Family Friendly Villa With Private Pool & Spectacular Mountain Views

Overview

Property

Updated: 07-Dec-2016
2 Bedroom, 2 Bathroom Villa , Within A Picturesque Location, Minutes From The Beautiful Medieval Town of Soriano

Casa Renata lies at the foot of the Cimini Mountains and the picturesque medieval town of Soriano nel Cimino, ideally located within a 2 minute drive from an array of excellent local amenities. This well-equipped 2 bedroom/2 bathroom country home is set within its own secluded grounds, surrounded by olive trees, fruit trees and spectacular 360° views overlooking the unspoilt countryside of the Tiber Valley and beyond to the Apennine Mountains.

Set within a prime location, a 15 minute drive to the beautiful historic walled medieval city of Viterbo, an hours’ drive from Rome and less than a 30 minute drive north to the neighbouring borders of Tuscany and Umbria, Casa Renata provides the perfect base in northern Lazio to explore the area’s magnificent towns, gardens, lakes and coastline, close at hand and easily accessible by either car or rail. Here you can discover the best of both worlds, a relaxing holiday in the heart of central Italy's stunning countryside, yet perfectly positioned for day trips to some of Italy's most fantastic cities.

Casa Renata is an ideal holiday home for families with young children, couples and friends alike. The view of Soriano with its crowning castle in the distance provides the perfect back drop for lazy days spent enjoying barbecues, swimming and relaxing around the pool and large garden. Guests staying throughout the Spring and Summer months can help themselves to a number of different fruit growing within the grounds; peaches, cherries, figs, plums and all of our guests can sample our very own olive oil provided in our welcome baskets. Evenings at the villa can be spent dining alfresco around the large table under the spacious veranda watching the bats swoop down over the moonlit pool, the perfect way to unwind after a busy day of sight-seeing. Please visit our website, Tuscia Lets, for more information on Casa Renata.

Our relatively undiscovered lively town of Soriano with its pretty winding streets and excellent local amenities is reminiscent of those of nearby Tuscany and Umbria, yet untouched my mass tourism. Offering visitors the chance to discover a truly authentic Italy, while still enjoying a great variety of bars, fantastic yet reasonably priced restaurants, traditional stores providing superb local produce and a Friday morning weekly market.

Getting a feel for Soriano living; The town’s main square is the living hub of the community and an integral part of daily life. Stopping off at Bar Roma in the morning for the perfect Italian coffee and pastry and enjoying an evening aperitivo on the piazza while watching the world go by at Bar Centrale, are daily Sorianese past times not to be missed. Be transported back in time by exploring Soriano’s pretty medieval streets, fountains and churches in the heart of the town that lead up to the 13th Century Orsini Castle. Visit the Renaissance fountains of Papacqua and Palazzo Chigi-Albani and enjoy fantastic meals at restaurants Tre Scalini, Due Camini and Taverna dei Frati to name but a few. Once the stables of an old monastery the Taverna’s large terrace overlooking the valley below provides the perfect setting for al fresco dining on warm Spring and Summer evenings.

About the Owner

Ciao a tutti! My name is Daniela and I am lucky to have been coming to Soriano nel Cimino and the surrounding area of la Tuscia my whole life. We are an Anglo-Italian family based in Sussex, England. We have long family ties with this beautiful town through my father, where we continue to spend our holidays with family and friends. Our two properties advertised on here, Villa Casa Renata and Apartment Oleandri are both used as homes away from home, and so ideally fully equipped with all you could need for a long or short stay. We hope you enjoy this place as much as we do.

We have loved the garden for footy and hide and seek. The pool for floating on lillos. Soriano for its labyrinth of medieval streets (go for a wonder round the streets near the castle!), stunning views, friendly people, delicious gelati and coffee and ridiculously cheap pastries at Bar Roma. We have loved exploring this untouristy area and really enjoyed a couple of trips on the train to Rome - amazing city. We had delicious food at La Faggeta, and the place with a terrace on stilts over the lake at the main beach at Lake Bolsena and lots of lovely food elsewhere.

A relaxing holiday in Soriano

  • 5 of 5

We were welcomed by Peta to a clean, comfortable and well equipped home from home. and loved the welcome basket of home produce and wine. We appreciated having the aircon as the temperature remained in the mid-30s during our first week. Having the pick of the fresh fruit in the garden was delightful and Daniela was always ready and willing to give us tips and suggestions to make our holiday go smoothly. Soriano itself is delightful, not touristy but welcoming and Rome is an easy train ride away. Lots of interesting towns and places of interest to visit easily, we'd love to return.

Excellent house & pool immediately outside Soriano

  • 5 of 5

The house, pool and garden are well maintained. The house is just outside Soriano - the pool has a good view of the castle - and is only about a 200 metre walk from the newish Co-op supermarket on the edge of town. The automatic gate is useful, although the entrance junction with the main road is a bit awkward for drivers! The town and surrounding area have several excellent restaurants, and there is plenty to see and do, though relaxing in and by the pool was our priority, having been to the area twice before.

An Italian gem

  • 5 of 5

Thank you Daniela for a wonderful 2 weeks in your lovely villa and surroundings. We had a fantastic holiday and it is ideally placed for visiting beautiful places in Lazio, Umbria and Tuscany. The welcome basket was a lovely gesture and the olive oil from the garden was delicious. There is so much to see and do in this area, that we have only skimmed the surface - we will be back! Thanks again for providing such a homely, well provided villa with a great pool and garden. It was truly idyllic.

A Rare Find

  • 5 of 5

As seasoned travelers, our expectations were fully met at Villa Casa Renata. The attractive villa was well equipped (including a hair dryer) and clean and set in lovely, well-tended gardens with pool overlooking the local village of Sorianno nel Cimino. It was a wonderful touring base within easy and cheap traveling distance of Rome and other historic centres like Viterbo which was a delight to visit. The lush and varied countryside round about is a well-kept secret. Although on a busyish road, it was not noticeable after a short while. A final thanks to Daniela and team for their warm welcome and for making our stay so enjoyable.

Wonderful family stay

  • 4 of 5

Very sad to be home from our wonderful 10 days at Casa Renata. The house was a real home from home for our family. Our children loved the pool and gardens as did we. We had some great days out to thermal baths, gardens and towns and incorporated an overnight stay in Rome half way through. Everywhere was so easy to access from the house via car and the train to Rome was great.

The whole vitrrbo area felt "normal" and not overrun with tourists. Daniela was a gem from initial enquiry onwards. Thank you.

Beatiful villa and location

  • 5 of 5

A really lovely villa, exactly as shown on the website. Welcome basket on arrival and Daniela only a text away to help with any queries. For a relaxing break the location was perfect. Supermarket two minutes away and easy to visit Rome for a day. Would definitely recommend the villa.

Owner's Response: Thank you, Karen. I'm very happy you all had a relaxing weeks stay at the villa and that you would recommend Casa Renata to your friends and family. You really can have the best of both worlds on holiday here, chilled out days in the Italian countryside or days spent sightseeing around our wonderful local cities such as Rome. Also I'm so glad you appreciated the welcome basket, I believe your holiday truly begins the minute you're through the front door, with a cup of coffee, or a glass of the local vino by the pool! I look forward to hearing from you again. All the best, Daniela.

Location

From the Owner

Casa Renata offers the best of both worlds, a relaxed country home, just minutes from lively village life. The house was built in 1990, where once stood an old farmhouse. The land was bought especially due to its prime location to Soriano and its surrounding beauty. We have a number of fruit trees; olive, cherry, fig, peach, lemon, hazelnut, which our guests are more than welcome to help themselves to. We also provide our guests, with a taster of our very own extra virgin olive oil within our welcome pack, which is full of local goodies, ideal to use as a dressing. It is all about the food for us, so whether you choose to stay at home and cook for yourselves, in the well equipped family kitchen and BBQ or eat out in Soriano’s superb restaurants, the villa is an ideal base for you.

Activity and Interests

Nearest Airport : Rome's Fiumicino & Ciampino Airport at 100 Kilometres Nearest Barpub : Soriano's many bars an easy 5-10 min walk away at 500 Metres Nearest Ferry : Civitavecchia at 70 Kilometres Nearest Golf : Sutri at 20 Kilometres Nearest Train : Orte Scalo (15 minute drive) at 15 Kilometres Nearest Motorway : Orte A1 Rome/Florence at 15 Kilometres Nearest Restaurant : Soriano's Taverna dei Frati at 500 Kilometres Nearest Beach : Lake Vico (15 minute drive) at 15 Kilometres Car: recommended

Nestled between Rome, Tuscany, Umbria and the Mediterranean Coast, Casa Renata in Soriano is situated within a prime location to explore this relatively undiscovered corner of Italy, the stunningly beautiful region of Tuscia, in northern Lazio. Less than an hours’ drive north of Rome, 15 minutes from the historic papal city of Viterbo and 90 minutes south of Florence.

Soriano nel Cimino: Standing at the foot of central Italy’s Cimini Mountains, the pretty hill top town of Soriano offers a great variety of local amenities; banks, petrol stations, excellent restaurants and bars, all within a 3 minute drive from the villa. The local supermarket is a minutes' drive away. When staying in Soriano guests can truly discover authentic Italian small town life at its best.

Only a few minutes out of town and standing 1,150 metres behind Soriano is the vast wooded Nature Reserve of Lake Vico. Winding roads with spectacular views take you to the ideal place to escape the summer heat, for a swim in lake Vico, seasonal walks and picnics in the woods of La Faggeta or to the excellent restaurant/gelateria located at the entrance to the wood.

Viterbo: Northern Lazio's principle town of Viterbo (15 minute drive) is one of Europe’s best preserved and most beautiful walled medieval cities. Once the seat of the Papacy, the 13th Century architecture of Viterbo’s Papal Palace remains the symbol of the town to this day. The charming medieval quarter of San Pellegrino, the oldest part of Viterbo, is a series of pretty winding streets, inner courtyards and small piazzas dotted with antique shops, artist studios, restaurants and bars. Viterbo also offers a great selection of designer shops together with its handy larger hypermarkets on the outskirts of town. An area famed for its hot sulphur springs, Viterbo houses the famous health spa, Le Terme dei Papi, for those after a little pampering.

Recommended city day trips; Rome:70km Viterbo:12km Florence:160km Orvieto:40km Spoleto:70km Perugia:100km Assisi:60km.

NB Although we do recommend the use of a car when staying here, especially for exploring smaller towns and villages, many of our neighbouring cities are best accessed by rail. The train station at Orte (15min drive) is a rail hub to all major destinations throughout Italy, for example Rome's central Termini Station takes just over 1/2 an hr.

Lazio's Lakes: Our superb lakes provide excellent beaches to suit all tastes. Lake Vico's peaceful location high up in the woods creates the perfect setting for lazy days on secluded volcanic sandy beaches. A small selection of good cafes and restaurants plus water sports are available. Plenty of picnic areas with BBQs are dotted around the wooded shoreline.

The stunning crystal clear waters of the larger Lake Bolsena (30 minute drive), provide a number of great stretches of beach ideal for families and water sports enthusiasts. A large variety of good bars and restaurants line the shorelines of the medieval towns of Capodimonte & Bolsena.

Lakes; Vico(15km), Bolsena(35km) and Bracciano(40km).

Medieval Villages & Towns: There are an abundance of picturesque medieval towns to explore in our area, a few not to be missed include; Caprarola home to the stunning Palazzo Farnese and Bagnaia famed for Villa Lante and its grand gardens. For it's beauty and unique setting, The Dying City of Bagnoregio is also a must see. As is Bomarzo's Park of Monsters.

Recommended village day trips; Caprarola:15km Bagnaia:6km Bomarzo:10km Montefiascone:20km Bolsena:45km Tuscania:40km Civita di Bagnoregio:15km. Calcata:40km

The Coastline: Lazio's stunning coastline is within an hrs drive from Apartment Oleandri, offering sandy stretches of beach to rugged bays. The nearest beach is at Tarquinia Lido, a 40 min drive. Slightly in land is the Etruscan town of Tarquinia, famed for its archaeological sites and relics. The Tuscan coastal towns of Porto Ercole, Porto S. Stefano and the islands of Giglio and Elba are also reached in over an hrs drive.

Recommened beaches; Tarquinia:40km Santa Marinella:60km Montalto:50km Talamone:70km.

Local Swimming Pools: There are two pools close to the property; The sulphuric Terme di Orte (15 min drive), a large open air complex with restaurant and bar ideal for families & La Molinella, a smaller complex in Soriano itself. Aquafelix at Civitavecchia is the largest waterpark in the area.

Local Events: Each town and village celebrate their own unique festivals throughout the year, mixing Catholic heritage, ancient customs, music & culinary traditions; e.g.Montefiascone's Wine Festival on 1st-15th Aug and Viterbo's impressive Macchina di S. Rosa on the 3rd September. Soriano's most famous Chestnut Festival is celebrated throughout the 1st two weeks of October, bringing visitors from far and wide. Enjoy medieval parades & fan-fare while joining in the wonderful celebrations held in the local tavernas.

Facilities

From the Owner

This area of Italy, known as La Tuscia, is one of the country’s hidden gems. Although Italians have been visiting this area for years, few non-Italians have discovered this diverse region of northern Lazio and its many festivals. We love to spend warm Spring and Summer days lounging by the lake, Lake Vico for a more peaceful and relaxed vibe or Lake Bolsena with its many bars, restaurants and water sports. And after all these years we still love to visit and explore this area’s array of medieval towns, I recommend the unique town of Civita di Bagnoregio as a must see. Back in Soriano you can live like a local and immerse yourself into an authentic Italian community. With our local knowledge of the area we are more than happy to recommend places to visit, restaurants etc and shopping tips.
