This turretted villa, built by a French artist in 1995, is set on a hillside with panoramic views overlooking the plains of Empordà, the Mediterranean sea to the east, the local Mont Gri hill to the north and the Pyrenees to the west. The house is conveniently situated for a choice of good, sandy beaches (nearest 3km) and for a wide range of activities and excursions. The house is equally suited to golfers requiring a choice of excellent courses all within a very short distance, families with children or small parties looking for a base for activity holidays. There is easy access to the main roads and to a good range of shops and restaurants. There is a very good supermarket and bakery at the end of the road, within walking distance. Car essential. The house is owned and used as a family home. Improvements are made to the property regularly, most recently the installation of wi-fi and full air-conditioning. The two shower rooms were completely rebuilt and refurbished in 2013.

La Torreta is owned by a professional family living and working near London. For most of the year La Torreta is used by the family, both as a base for working and for holidays.

We knew parts of the south of Spain fairly well, but work committments drew us to Barcelona and the coastal area immediately to the north. The family's collective 'shopping list' for a house included proximity to Barcelona, skiing, beaches, golf and good tennis facilities. We also wanted what we called a 'holiday view', a view that was far removed from our daily lives near London.

Special interest holidays:

Two luxury spas are located within 5 minutes drive of the house: at Hilton Resort/Golf Empordà and Mas de Torrent.

Bicycles can be rented by the day/week from local cycle shops. They can be ordered in advance and delivered/collected direct from house.


Platja del Raco & Platja de Pals - long sandy beaches. Good for children. Beach bar, pedaloes, windsurfing; 3km. Numerous small sandy coves within 10 minutes drive eg Sa Riera, Aigua Blava, Sa Tuna, Tamariu, Llafranc, Calella de Palafrugell. Fishing towns with good beaches eg L'Escala and Palamos - 15 minutes, lively small resorts with large sandy beaches eg Platja d'Aro - 20 minutes.


Nearest airports: Girona (40 minutes), Perpignan (1.25 hours), Barcelona (1.5 hours).

Ryanair flies direct to Girona from many European destinations.

Good range of local shops available, in walking and short driving distance. Take-away food available 0.25km (summer), 6km all year round. Good range of banks/cashpoints in local towns.

Restaurants - excellent range within short driving distance, from Michelin starred and recommended restaurants to inexpensive beachside restaurants.

The house is ideally situated for summer beach and activity holidays as well as all year-round golf and leisure breaks. Apart from golf and skiing (see separate sections), all the following are available locally - Tennis: Club Tennis de Pals (5 mins), Club Tennis Llafranc (large clay court centre) (15 mins); Diving: Triton Diving Llafranc (PADI, CMAS centre) + others at L’Estartit, Calella de Palafruguell, Begur (all within 15 minutes drive); Horse riding: Club Hipic, L’Estartit; Begur, Torrent (all within 15 minutes drive): Quad bikes: Gualtaquads (5 minutes): Paintball: Paintball Empordà (Costa Brava), Torrent (5 minutes): Go-karts: L'Estartit, L'Escala, Regencos (all within 15 mins): Picturesque local medieval villages include Pals, Peratallada, Begur. From the Owner

We make very good use of the golf facilities in the area and enjoy skiing, playing tennis, swimming and cycling. We also enjoy all the local festivals and wandering round the medieval villages. We appreciate the excellent shops and bakery just at the bottom of the road. Perhaps most of all we enjoy just lazing round the pool and enjoying evening barbeques on the upper terrace, watching amazing sunsets over the rice plains, mountains and the sea.
