Captains Row in Fowey, Cornwall, UK - All Rooms have River Views. Short Walk from Town Centre, Beach and Countryside

Built in 1826, "Captains Row" was the home of Capt Bate, an old sea captain. It is right on the River Fowey. Beautifully refurbished in 2006, it has all of the amenities of a luxury holiday home that is regularly used by it’s owners. The views are stunning and there are two balconies from which to watch the bustling life of the river – from yachts to freighters, and fishing boats to traditional gig racers. This is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and when you stand on a balcony looking at the view, it is easy to see why! Listen to the cry of seagulls, watch cormorants fly over the water, and maybe see a kingfisher flash past in a glitter of colour. Fowey retains its unique, unspoiled charm, with its narrow winding streets, old fashioned pubs and variety of shops. It is within easy reach of beaches, spectacular walks, the Eden Project and other places of interest. All this to make your holiday enjoyable, relaxing, interesting and exciting when you come to this oasis by the river.

Notes:
Notes on accommodation: Telephone accepts incoming calls, toll-free calls and emergency calls. Gas and electricity are included in the rental. There is no smoking or pets at Captains Row, and the house is not suitable for children under the age of 12 years. Outside: Both balconies are big enough to dine on. Parking: One of the many lovely things about Fowey is that it is not really a car place – it’s a walking place – and so parking in the town centre is restricted. Caffa Mill is the nearest car park. It is about 200 yards further on down the road from Captains Row. You have to pay and display day and night . A 7 day ticket for £35 with CASH at the Du Maurier Tourist Information Centre in the centre of town (covers the whole St Austell/Newquay area). If Caffa Mill is full, there is another car park which is just past the Caffa Mill car park. In the unlikely event that both these car parks are full, there is the town’s main car park (clearly sign posted), or other parking around the town. (Full details about parking are available when booking). Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: All bed linen, towels (for indoor use) and tea towels are provided (changed each week). Please bring your own beach towels. Cleaning is once a week on Friday (changeover day).

We had a great week at Captains Row. Fantastic place to stay. The balcanies are great with a glass of wine and property offered everything we needed for a home-from-home holiday by the sea

Location

Special interest holidays:

The Daphne du Maurier Festival in May is ten days long and covers all types of literary and performing arts.

The Fowey Royal Regatta in August is a week of sailing and festivities including a carnival, gig racing, Red Arrows Display team and fireworks.

There are sailing lessons and canooing readily available in Fowey.

Coast/Beach:

Readymoney Beach is the closest to Fowey - some 10 minutes walk from the centre of town.

Coombe Hawne and Great Lantic beaches are also accessible.

The South West Coastal Path passes through Fowey and there are some lovely circular walks in the area. Details are in the bookcase at the house.

Travel:

Newquay Airport is about 20 miles away.

Par is the nearest main line train station which is 5 miles away.

Distances:

St Austell is 7 miles

Padstow (and Rick Stein!) is about 34 miles away

Newquay is about 25 miles

Truro is 25 miles

Plymouth is about 40 miles

Further Details:

Fowey is a delightful small town with many good quality restaurants and pubs. There are banks (including ATMs), a Poat Office, bakers, butchers, fishmonger, wine merchant, book shops, small supermarket, several art shops and many clothes and specialist shops. There are also two sailing clubs, and shops that cater for marine and saling needs.
