About the Owner

We are extremely fortunate to had been able to acquire Shore Cottage recently as we believe it to be a very rare and special location for anyone wanting to get away from it all and at the same time being within easy reach of good shopping, health and sporting facilities. The Rhins of Galloway have their own micro-climate and there are many beautiful gardens with unusual plants to visit within it as well as many other attractions.

A beautiful, complicated old character house set high in the rural historic village of Fornalutx. Full of antique furniture and paintings, but with up to date bathrooms and wi-fi, spectacular views of the surrounding mountains and a multi-terraced, well-stocked garden.

The well-maintained pool is fabulous and was a must for our August holiday. The garden has lemons, oranges, pomegranates, figs and almonds for the taking and plenty of places for eating al-fresco. We managed to keep the house relatively cool buy cross ventilation from the mountain breezes, plus the bedroom fans were useful at night. It is a very rural location and we enjoyed waking to the background sound of sheep, cockerels and donkeys each day.

It's location means a 5-minute walk to the village centre down steep-ish cobbled paths where we found a good variety of restaurants and bars, a baker and general store to meet our daily needs. The village is very quiet as it is bypassed by the main road, so very little traffic comes through it's narrow streets.

We had a (much needed) hire car which can be parked for free near by which we used for excursions to Soller and up into the mountains to the north... lovely driving, but the drops are not for the faint of heart!

The local agent was helpful in enabling a meet-and-greet late at night and sorting out a wi-fi problem. The gardener/pool cleaner comes twice each week.

We had a very good holiday at Ca'n Figueras with no particular complaints, though the mosquitoes need to be effectively discouraged if you are prone to reaction to them. It would be a great base for a spring walking holiday as there are spectacular hikes to be had, just not in August...

Puerto Soller is approx 10 mins drive Sandy beach surrounded by several cafes and restaurants. Sailing, windsurfing, water skiing, pedaloes available. Car and cycle hire.

Travel:

Palma airport approx 40 mins drive. We recommend guests hire a car. Ferry terminal approx 40 mins drive.

Distances:

Soller is approx 3 miles away. Palma is 35 mins by car and an hour by train from Soller Puerto Soller 10 mins.

Further Details:

Fornalutx, deemed to be one of the most beautiful villages in Spain, is situated in the Sierra Tramuntana Mountains surrounded by olive, orange and lemon groves. There are a number of restaurants and bars in the village as well as a bank and post office, an excellent shop offering a large selection of fresh meat and produce. There is also a hairdresser and chemist and boutiques. Soller is nearby and offers an excellent range of restaurants and shops including a supermarket and wonderful market every morning. There is also the famous Soller to Palma Train which runs daily.
