Villa in Alcossebre, Costa del Azahar - Just 15 minutes Walk from the Beach

This well equipped 2 bedroom villa has its own pool with easy access & illuminated for evening bathing.

Covered lounge area, steps leading up to large sun terrace with built -in BB-Q with two dining areas both shaded , where you can enjoy stunning views of the sea and town below. The man made marina is only 15 minute walk away is home to sailing and power craft of all sizes. There is windsurfing on all the beaches, as well as scuba diving, jet skiing and paddle boats in season. The golfer is not forgotten, with two challenging courses are but a short drive away. We think the magic of Alcossebre is the fantastic selection of restaurants, with prices that are still very reasonable compared to other Spanish resorts.

Lovely villa in a wonderful setting

We have just returned from our tenth consecutive annual holiday at this lovely villa, which has been the perfect venue for our family holidays. The villa is cosy and homely and has plenty of amenities to suit our needs eg air-conditioning in the lounge/dining area, a barbecue area on the patio (which has stunning views), an attractive garden room which also benefits from the view of the sea and the coast, a modern satellite TV, separate utility room with a washing machine, secure parking and, of course, the private swimming pool which is so attractively illuminated at night. The villa is situated in a very attractive, elevated area, allowing for the wonderful views along the coastline. The owners, Bob and Lorraine, are very friendly and accommodating and it is also reassuring to have contact with a local British couple, shpuld any queries arise. My family and I always return home with fond memories of our stay at this attractive villa in the family-friendly town of Alcossebre.

Nice villa, shame about the hygene & bed bugs

From the information available on Owners Direct this villa looked ideal for a week in the sun. It is a nice property in a good location - we'd been to Alcossebre before and knew the location. However, after a few days in the house we noticed we were getting bitten - and after a couple more days realised it was not by the usual suspects - mosquitos.

On further searching & inspection, evidence of bed bugs was found on the matresses and the owners contacted as soon as it was established what it was. We were leaving the next day. We are now over 10 days from leaving and the bite scars are still visible. What was to be a lovely week - has turned into a nightmare for us and we've no means of redress with the owners.

I would also raise issues over the standard of hygiene in general in the villa and quality of cleaning undertaken - other villas we have stayed in have much fresher, newer kitchen equipment, glasses and bedding etc.

We contacting the owners to tell them by email and phone - they didn't seem to appreciate how serious this problem was and the impact it had on our stay.I have tried to send them photographs of the evidence and bites and had no response. This is very disappointing and upsetting to have wasted a lot of money on staying in this house. The owners reaction was - that if we'd said sooner they could have sorted it...however, we didnt suss out exactly what the problem was until the day before we were due to leave & do they really think they get rid of bed bugs in a couple of hours turn around clean - I dont think so. Some poor soul was renting the villa the day we were leaving....my suspicions are that this isnt the first time this problem has been raised.....

I await contact from the owners and a demonstration of how they have addressed the problem and how they are going to compensate us.

I have a feeling - I'llbe waiting a while.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review. We have contacted you directly regarding the bites you received whilst occupying our villa. Unfortunately in a hot country if food stuffs are left out this does attract ants and there is not anything we can do other than to advise you to clean up any spillages as soon as possible. The orange juice and ice cream wrappers left throughout the villa during your stay this was the mostly likely cause of the ants. Unfortunately you only contacted us the day before you left which gave us very little chance to sort any problems you may have had. Although in the 10 years we have been renting out our villa we have never had any complaints due to the cleanliness and we pride ourselves on this as it is also our home. We have received confirmation that there were no bed bugs from our property managers and also on speaking to our guests who rented before and after your stay none of them have had any such problems. However it does upset us that you have not enjoyed your stay the fullest and would urge you in future to contact the owners without delay so any issues may be resolved. Many thanks Bob and Lorraine

Definitely the best villa we have stayed in.

We rented this villa for two weeks in July 2015 & it is definitely the best villa we have stayed in.

It is in an excellent location around 15-20 minutes walk into the centre of town, which meant we could have a few drinks with our meal without one of us having to drive. It is located part way up a hillside suburb & thus has excellent views out to sea and across the town at night.

The villa itself is extremely pleasant & has been decorated and furnished by someone with an eye for design – the external lighting in particular is a treat. It has loads of places to sit & to eat - there are two internal seating areas and one internal dining area, two external dining areas and one external seating area.

A few things we particularly liked about the house (that previous villas had lacked): A great kitchen really well stocked with cookware & appliances; a modern flat screen TV to which I could plug in my external hard drive & play films etc in digital format; a good broadband service; air con in the main sitting/ dining area.

I spoke to Bob, the owner, a few times by phone & found him to be an extremely nice gentleman. He even arranged for friends of his, another English couple who live locally to drop in on us & they gave us some excellent advice on places of interest, restaurants, etc. The couple who mind the property, John & Sally were also extremely pleasant to deal with (John was our unofficial medical advisor).

Of the villas we have rented in Spain & Portugal, this is the first that I can say I will definitely return to in the future.

Wonderful Views

This is a lovely property, everything you need for a great holiday. The pool is fantastic but, for me, the view from the terrace over the pool to the sea is the best and goes very well with a glass of something cool! The walk to and from the sea front is a lovely way to walk off some of the wonderful meals taken at a great choice of restaurants. There are some wonderful walks in the National Park which can be started from the villas front door, but I would recommend a car for the supermarket run. Hope to return one day!

Villa location is on the edge of a vast national park which extends to the north as far as Peniscola. This park has an extensive array of signed walks with breathtaking views of the coast.lovely walk down to the light house is worth a visit

only 15 mins away.

Coast/Beach:

Alcossebre and Los Fuentes boasts 5 beaches all with blue flag status.

The villa is only 15 minutes walk from the beach, which is home to windsurfing, sail and paddle boats and jet ski rentals in season.

Travel:

By Air,

Valencia 1 hour - scheduled services from London and Coventry.

Reus is 1.5 hours - charter flights from most UK airports

Barcelona is 2 hours - with daily flights from most UK airports.

You can catch a train from Barcelona airport t benicarlo station, which is about 20 minutes from Alcossebre.

By Sea,

Brittany ferries now operate a fast 18 hour service from Plymouth to Santander, which is then 7-8 hour drive to the resort.

Distances:

Castellon is the largest town in the area 20 minute drive away with good shops and eateries. Peniscola also 20 minutes away a pituresque and enchanting town with cobbled streets and white houses. Benicarlo, has a daily fish and vegatable market 25 minutes away.

Further Details:

Alcossebre has an extensive range of shops, supermarket and restaurants to suit all tastes and budgets. There are cash points, banks and English speaking GPs, dentist and pharmacies.
