It offers the perfect base from which to explore the surrounding flora, fauna and dramatic landscapes in an area renowned for its’ outstanding natural beauty. Guest Book Comments: 'Thank you for welcoming us to your little slice of paradise. The gardens are spectacular and the acequia show was a wonderful hydrology lesson for S! Tilly has restored my faith in cats with her daily visit for a cuddle in the garden. We hope to return to explore the area again some day....when the kids are a bit bigger and we are not tied to a baby's nap schedule!'

Exceptional and Stunning Casita

  • 5 of 5

We saw the details of this lovely casita 3 years ago but at that time, it was too small for our family's needs.

However, it stuck with us and Janet was also great to deal with, so we picked up with her again and booked for this summer.

As we arrived on a typically sunny Spanish summer's day and having driven up the steep drive, we walked through the gates into a stunning oasis.

The gardens are amazing. Janet is a keen gardener and you can tell that she has real flair in the way she has designed and planted it.

Around the pool area, the incredible planting continues and the magnificent date palm provides natural dappled shade. We loved this area.

As with the gardens, the casita is beautifully kept and you can smell the fresh linen and towels as you walk in.

Janet and her late husband have created a superb home and holiday casita and we felt privileged to have spent time there.

We drove into Orgiva to eat most evenings and found a great selection of restaurants which provided fabulous food.

As pretty fussy people (me particularly), we can highly recommend Casa de la Era.

It was a compete joy to spend our week there and hope one day to visit again.

Thank you to Janet and Katie 😀

Beautiful gardens in magical location

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful holiday - this is not only the most relaxing away-from-it-all retreat but also a wonderful location for visiting Granada, mountain villages and the seaside. The house and gardens are immaculate and very well-maintained offering all you need for a comfortable visit. We really enjoyed the swimming pool and especially appreciated the thoughtful garden design that ensured plenty of shade, however hot the weather became. Our real highlight was the gorgeous terrace where you could eat your meals, read and chat - a magical environment. We will never forget star-gazing too! Though we stretched the accommodation to capacity (3 children - 13,10,9 years) this was no problem as the house itself is very comfortable and well-organised. Highly recommended!

A beautiful oasis in a great location

  • 5 of 5

Had a wonderful relaxing stay at the Corjito. Janet and Katie made us so welcome during our 9 day break. The Corjito and pool were perfect, made even better by the beautiful gardens - the watering of which was amazing. I would recommend the Corjito to anyone and we will be returning for sure.

Our happy place

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed at Casa de la Era many times before and have always immensely enjoyed our stay. My daughter who is now 9 always asks to return and my mother describes this beautiful hideaway as a 'magical' place. The villa itself is clean, spacious with two bathrooms, perfect for a family of 4 but the beauty itself is the wonderful gardens and pool area. We always feel so safe and private here, nothing is ever a problem and the lovely Janet and her daughter Katie are always so helpful and welcoming to this wonderful oasis. We love the surrounding area, the local village Orgiva has everything we need and the coast only being a 30-40 minute drive away. The perfect holiday to hide-away and completely relax. We'll be back in 2017! Clare G

Beautiful casita in the mountains

  • 5 of 5

We just spend a blissful fortnight in this beautiful casita. Janet and Katie were so friendly and helpful and the house has everything you could want for a comfortable stay. You can spend time driving up to through the mountains and have lunch in the perfect little white villages or just relax by the wonderful pool. The gardens around the casita are just beautiful. There are also lovely walks around Tijola and you can walk in to Orgiva where there are lots of cafes, restaurants and shops and a nice market on Thursdays. the coast is just about half an hour away too, so you couldn't be better placed for the perfect holiday in Spain.

Activity and Interests

Car: necessary

Special interest holidays:

NB this is a baby friendly villa! Having become grandparents in 2008, we are now able to loan a highchair, babygym, babywalker, babybath, babybouncer, travel cot etc, all to hopefully enhance the holiday for every family member!

The towns of Motril, Salobrena on the Costa Tropical are about 30mins with the larger town of Almunecar about 45 mins drive, all offering several excellent fish restaurants. Waterskiing is available at Marina Del Este.

Granada airport is approximately 1 hour, Malaga and Almeria airport are about 2hours 30 minutes. Malaga has the widest choice of airlines including Easyjet and British Airways.

Car hire is strongly recommended.

Orgiva is about 5 minutes drive or 25minutes walk from the Casa. The whitewashed ‘pueblos’ (villages), of Pampaneira, Bubion and Capiliera are about 16km. - the highest, Trevelez a little further. Spain's most visited attraction, the beautiful Alhambra Palace and Generalife gardens in Granada, (dating back to the time of Moorish occupation), is an easy drive of about 1 hour.

Further Details:

A basic welcome pack of food and information will be provided on arrival. Special requests can usually be catered for, such as health foods and organic produce, even celebratory honeymoon packs! Owners live nearby and provide on site maintenance and regular pool cleaning and are able to offer helpful local information and booking advice, enabling you to maximise your enjoyment of this special area. Babysitting negotiable.

Orgiva has a selection of banks, internet cafes, shops, health food shops, bars, restaurants and an impressive Baroque church. Every Thursday there is a colourful market with local produce, arts and crafts, something for everybody. There is very much an ‘alternative’ feel here, why not pamper yourself by booking one of the many complementary health treatments available, such as massage, aromatherapy or reiki? There is also an English Toni and Guy trained mobile hairdresser, our daughter, to hand!

The area is perfect for climbers, walkers, cyclists, ornithologists, artists and photographers alike. The network of walks linked by the GR7 and old mule trails which lead through the national parks, can often lead to a sighting of a soaring golden eagle and an abundance of wild flowers. Bolted and free climbing are available within a 10 min drive (the local ibex likely to be your only spectators) or further choice available in the surrounding areas. Alternatively, experience the breathtaking beauty of the mountains on horseback, 2-8 hour rides available, or, for those who prefer wheels, quad and mountain biking is an option. Paintballing, archery and paragliding can also be booked locally. For the more tranquil moments, consider taking the waters at the spa town of Lanjaron 12km away, the Moroccan Baths in Granada, or visit the Buddhist Monastery of Osel Ling where planned retreats are possible.
