Beautiful and relaxing
Having been to a few of the cities southern Spain has to offer a stay at the Buena Vista apartments was the ideal break after a busy few days. The setting is absolutely idyllic and peaceful with lovely views all around perfectly complementing our evening drinks and bbqs. The nearby town of Rute was walkable, but didn't seem to have the best dining options (although we did only try to eat out once). The apartment had everything we needed and had even been stocked up with some essentials by the owners (including wine). Highly recommended for a relaxing stay.
The perfect place to explore the many towns nearby or just to simply relax.
We stayed in the upper smaller apartment and it was fantastic. The apartment itself was equipped with everything you could want ( including the fresh figs and grapes when we arrived.) it was extremely comfortable and spotlessly clean. We loved the balcony especially for breakfast in the morning with the most amazing views.
The pool was perfect, with lots of areas to sit in sun or shade. The pool was especially welcome as there was a heatwave when we were there.
The gardens were perfect with plenty of places to just sit or to eat, all with views to die for.
We did not use the barbecues but there were several that were available to use.
We were an older couple and it was perfect, but there was plenty there for younger couples or families with a children's play area as well. With the 2 apartments it would be perfect for several generations to holiday together, yet apart!
We had travelled to Malaga, Granada and Córdoba the week before and apart from visiting the local area we were looking for complete rest and relaxation and we found exactly that, it was perfect.
Sarah and Paul were excellent hosts, with the perfect balance between being there if you needed anything, yet leaving you in peace if you didn't . Thank you both of you and hope your recovery continues well Paul

Peace, perfect hosts, super flat and THAT VIEW!
Paul and Sarah really are the perfect hosts, happy to tend to your every need. Paul has created a wonderful place to relax and unwind with lots of choice for places to sit in or out of the sun. There were no surprises as the description is very accurate, the property is clean, exceptionally well maintained and we would recommend this apartment to anyone. And the view? It is absolutely wonderful! Staying in the smaller upper apartment also gave us the luxury of a private balcony from which to eat breakfasts and dinners and soak up the amazing vista! We really couldn't fault our accommodation at all, thank you so much Paul and Sarah!
Perfect place for recharging life battery
You couldn't ask for a more beautiful spot! The view from the balcony and gardens of this property are to die for! Miles of open space, olive-grove covered mountains, the beautiful blue Iznajar lake and gorgeous sunsets. These images will be happily lodged in my mind through many grey English days to come.
The apartment itself was really comfortable and had everything we required. I can't think of a single thing we needed that wasn't there. If there was anything wrong (eg lightbulb fused) it was fixed immediately. The whole place was super-clean and contained good local information.
Paul and Sarah couldn't have been better hosts! Paul keeps the whole place immaculate ... and I do mean immaculate! And we'd really recommend taking them up on some of the extras they offer - Sarah cooked us a great paella and Paul's home-made marinades do make their barbecue a fabulous way to enjoy that view of the lake. Oh, and Sarah's a trained beauty therapist so it was lovely to have a bit of pampering that there might not be time for at home.
The small town, Rute, 5 mins drive away (you do need a car there) had supermarket, a market on Saturday (I think), lots of bars and not too many English people! We also went to the Alhambra in Granada - about an hour and a half away - which was fantastic. Book tickets well in advance though. We were lucky to get in, booking only the day before, but had a an 8.30am slot to see the Nasrid Palaces (best bit), which meant a really early start.
There's a lovely big swimming pool at Buena Vista (too cold for us to swim in March but good for sunbathing) and even a little gym.
We really didn't want to leave but needs must - at least we came back feeling our batteries had been recharged and we'd reconnected with the important things in life.
The apartment, set in olive groves, overlooks the lake and has great views. Although the lake is close by, it is not easy to access on foot or to bathe in but this is made up for by the swimming pool. The hosts were very helpful and provided us with lovely ripe figs on arrival. The appartment was clean and had everything we needed. The location is a good median between Alhambra, Cordoba and Seville and is very quiet. The local town of Rute is set on a hill and is a short drive away and has a good supermarket. A car is necessary here. We found this a great setting for a relaxing holiday with sights within relatively easy reach.
Absolutely perfect holiday
Me and my boyfriend stayed here mid August and we had the best time!
The pictures provided, though amazing, truly do not do it justice. The view over the lake is breathtaking and can be seen throughout all of the property; including the view from the balcony where we enjoyed breakfast every morning. As there are only two apartments (one one bedroom and another 2 bedroom) it is very quiet and tranquil. Its ideally located to explore a lot of the area, within easy driving distance to the famous Alhambra palace and other major cities in the area; though we didnt venture out too much as the property was just so perfect.
The thing that truly made the holiday, however, was the generosity and helpfulness of the hosts. Paul gave excellent directions and pre holiday information and was there to meet us when we arrived. He showed us around the apartment and explained all necessary things and had provided us with the most generous starter pack!! and included fresh grapes and almonds grown on the property!! throughout our stay he provided us with excellent information about the area, recommended some amazing restaurants and we shared a brilliant night of conversation and wine!!
What he has done with the place is truly spectacular and the effort they put into accommodating for their guests is unbelievable and truly makes for a perfect holiday! We couldn't recommend this place enough, though we dont want to because we want to be able to go back and we dont want it to get all booked up!!
Thank you again Paul and Sarah, SO MUCH! We will be back :)

Activity and Interests
The Lake beach at Iznajar is about 15 minutes drive away with a beach bar/restaurant, you can swim, sail, canoe or windsurf. During the summer months, pedaloes are also for hire, plus barbecue facilities and fishing.
The Costa del Sol beaches are approx 1 hour drive.
Granada airport is approx 55 minutes drive and Malaga is approx 1 hour's drive. We recommend a hire car from the airport for the duration of your stay. Convenient car parking is provided for both apartments.
Rute, only 5 minutes drive, has a variety of museums, points of interest, parks and a weekly market. Visit Iznajar with it's winding narrow streets, moorish castle and church. We are centrally located between Cordoba (90km), Sevilla, Granada (100km), Sierra Nevada Mountains, Malaga (90km) and Antequera. The beaches of Costa del sol are only just over an hour away.
The typically Spanish white-washed houses of Rute nestle at the foot of the impressive Sierra, surveyed by the watchtower, Torre del Canuto, dating from the Muslim period.
Rute has a full range of banks, shops, supermarkets, health centre, tapas bars, cafes and restaurants.
Within a 30 minutes drive there are many superb restaurants and hotels to eat and drink. In the apartment we provide copies of menus from many of the local restaurants including prices, in the Buenavista information pack.
The production of the fearsome firewater, anis, has taken place here since the 17th century, though today only five distilleries are still in production. There is an anis museum in Rute.
Rute also produces it's own celebrated cured ham and delicious, as well as typically Spanish, sweet treats. For four months towards the end of the year, skilled chocolatiers at Galleros, they work tirelessly to produce the Belen chocolate. The chocolate nativity is exceptional for it's size, totalling 52 sq mts (1400 kg) of white and dark chocolate. Each year visitors are stunned by new additions to the scene and travel from far and wide to view this Christmas spectacle.
If you enjoy walking/hiking, this is a walker's paradise. There are many hills and mountains and wildlife to explore.
