Villa in Grimaud, Nr. St. Tropez, Cote D'Azur - Views of the Bay of St. Tropez, Port Grimaud and Countryside

The first thing you will notice, and last thing you will forget about Villa Grenouille is the view. From the huge terraces that grace the rear of the house, to the South you can see the bay of St Tropez and the marina community of Port Grimaud, to the west a green valley which plays host to cork and wild olive trees. The fully air conditioned villa is large and comfortable, totally refurbished this year (2006) and sympathetically furnished and fully equipped. Every room in the villa has French style patio doors leading out onto the terraces or gardens, making the whole house light and airy. 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a WC and an outdoor shower provide comfortable convenience for up to 6 guests. The split level living space is open to the dining room. The kitchen is well equipped including microwave & dishwasher. There is a small covered terrace leading from the living room, so it is still possible to enjoy eating outside even in the rare event of a little bad weather.

I'm a film and TV producer and divide my time between London and whichever location I find myself working in at any given time. My wife and I bought the house many years ago having searched for the perfect holiday home for several years. Oddly, having spent so long searching, when we saw this place it took us about 2 seconds to decide that we had found what we were looking for. I often use the house in May to attend the Cannes festival, and we spend as much time there as a family (we have a son in his early 20's) as work permits, which is never as often as we'd like. I think it's the view, and the sense of peace it brings we miss the most when we're not there.

Beautiful Villa with beautiful views

The villa was reasonably priced compared to some in the area so was not sure what to expect on arrival. The villa is lovely, clean, spacious and comfortable and the decor throughout very appealing. There is a huge patio outside with spectacular views over the surrounding countryside and to the left Port Grimaud. I believe the owners are continuing to renovate the property as time goes on but all 5 of us there found it very comfortable. It is a way up the mountain so a car is required but there is a small grocery shop at a campsite just down the hill. There was constant hot water and the air conditioning was fabulous. A couple of niggles like the dishwasher breaking down, door handles coming off, did not bother us at all. The local caretaker was on the case straight away and was extremely pleasant and helpful. I was a little upset on arrival to be told the pool could not be heated but in the end, we really did not need it. It was lovely and warm but we were lucky with the weather - early 30s the whole stay. All in all, we had a fabulous holiday and would recommend it. A shame there are only 3 bedrooms as would love to go back with a few friends.

The world famous beaches of Pampelone are just 10km away, whilst the nearest beach lies just at the bottom of the hill, a few minutes drive away. (It's the position of the house high on the hill that makes a car a necessity).

The beach at Port Grimaud, with it's air of exclusivity and private rented loungers is worth the extra couple of minutes drive.


Nice Cote D'Azur Aiport is about an hour

Marseille Marignane is about 90 minutes

Toulon Hyeres is closest at just about 40 minutes


St. Tropez 9 km

Ste. Maxime 6 km

Frejus 25 Km

Cannes 75 Km

Nice 100 km

Aix en Provence 100 km

Further Details:

Being right in the heart of Provence, it is a perfect base from which to explore the whole region. Day trips by car are easy to Monaco, or even across the Italian border. Day trips are also easy to Aix en Provence, Nice, Cannes, Marseille, Toulon, Juan les Pins, Grasse, the list is endless. One of our favourites is to drive down to Port Grimaud, and take the Navette (ferry) across the bay to St.Tropez for a long lunch and shopping followed by some yacht watching over drinks in the harbour before the ferry back. The countryside around Grimaud is covered with vineyards, producing some the best wines in France. Many of the vineyards have tastings and the local wines are widely available and very cheap. The world famous Pampelonne beaches are within easy reach and the Harbour at St.Tropez is still, whatever anyone might tell you, the place to see and be seen.

For the mundane everyday essentials, there is a huge Geant Hypermarket with a Pharmacy and Bank a few minutes away at La Foux, whilst at the bottom of the hill from the house there is a choice of 2 small supermarkets for daily items. The main coast road is also dotted with small shops and 2 very good bakers. Meanwhile, for the retail therapists, the Cote D'azur has some of the finest shopping anywhere. All the big designer names are in St. Tropez Cannes, and Nice.

I don't know if it's actually impossible to have a bad meal here, but we haven't had one yet. It's easy to get lost in a sea of superlatives when describing the gastronomy of France, suffice to say that restaurants of every kind and to suit every budget abound and are of very high quality. Locally to the Villa there are a number of very reasonably priced restaurants and cafes, Port Grimaud is especially worth a visit. Along the coast road there are number of beach restaurants. The hill villages, such as Gassin and Grimaud have lovely little terraced restaurants, often with amazing views.

  • Notes on accommodation: Fitted with reversible air conditioning throughout. Outside: There is a large garden laid mostly to lawn in the front of the house, whilst the rear is dominated by a huge terrace overlooking the views and the pool terrace below. The chevron shaped pool is private, shielded, and heated if required and about 30 feet long. Ample outdoor furniture is provided including umbrellas, chairs, tables, and loungers. Utility Room: Washing machine. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels and linen included, a cleaning and laundry charge of 150 euros is payable locally on departure.
