Es Puig, standing in its own extensive gardens, was restored and enlarged by its present owners and retains the original spirit of the house. The terrace and the pool have stunning views overlooking the town and Church of Santa Maria and the Mediterranean. In summer laze in the sun by the pool or read a book in the shade of the bougainvillea and morning glory. In spring, walk the coastal path to the lighthouse, through the wild lavender and honeysuckle, or sit with a newspaper in one of the many cafes on the beach. In winter, curl up by the fire and just chill...

About The Owner

We have spent every summer in Cadaques since 1988 and bought Es Puig ten years later when we carried out extensive renovations. It is very much our second home and my children and their friends all adore it. People come from many parts of the world to visit and we want them to have the holiday of a lifetime and to love the town and the house as much as we do. My lovely and very competent housekeeper Marie Angels has worked for us at Es Puig since the beginning and we do our utmost to have everything looking as we would like to find it ourselves.

I started my working life as a fashion designer and my passion for vintage fabrics and design is, I hope, evident in the furnishings and pictures in the house. When we aren't there we live in Scotland where I design and make wedding dresses.

Why The Owner chose Cadaqués

The first time I set foot in Cadaques I fell in love with it and I never fail to be blown away by the view and all its beauty every time I arrive. I love the atmosphere in the town and to read my newspaper sitting in the Bar Boya is one of life's great pleasures.

The winter has it's own charms, the changing sky and sea a constant pleasure, even on the wildest days. If I want peace I can stay up at the house with the fire burning and if I feel like some company I can just wander down to town and find people. There is always something interesting to look at.

If walking is your pleasure, in springtime the wildflowers are abundant and unspoiled in the Natural Park and there is a trail all along the coast from Cap de Creus to Roses with breathtaking view of the Mediterranean all the way and a delicious lunch to be had at the end.

Just wandering around the Monday market and picking up a good chunk of Serrano ham and some local salad for a simple lunch at home or eating tapas in one of the bars in town is the best way of spending a morning that I can possibly think of.

What makes this house unique

Es Puig has the most wonderful atmosphere. It was really cleverly designed in the 50s by the original owners who lived in Barcelona and visited most weekends. They counted many artists and writers as friends. They had a fantastic book called the Book of Complaints and challenged their guests' ingenuity by requiring them to include a poem or drawing which contained a complaint about the house, all amusing and inventive. I often think about the times and debates they must have had sitting around the fire in the winter and that spirit very much lingers on.

I feel that we are incredibly blessed to own such a house and am delighted to share some of its magic with other people.

Notes on accommodation: The house has full central heating and aircon on the upper floor only. It is not ideal for very young children. Outside: The terraced garden has several tables and seating areas, some shaded, and comfortable sun loungers and aiderondac chairs by the pool. There is a barbecue pit. The pool can be heated, by arrangement, and measures 12m x 6m for sole use of guests. Utility Room: Washer, dryer and farmhouse sink. Outside drying area. Second fridge/freezer. Linen cupboard. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: There is a part time housekeeper on weekdays, further hours by arrangement. Part time gardener and pool maintainence. Linen, bath, pool and beach towels are included. Other: All bedrooms have French windows onto the terrace and garden.

Special interest holidays:

Cadaques, spiritual home of Salvador Dali. A short walk leads to his fascinating house in Port Ligat, now a museum open year round. It's a 40 minute drive to the Dali Foundation in Figueras or to Pubol, the fabulous castle owned by Gala, Dali's wife and muse. The town remains much loved by artists because of its wonderful light and its many art galleries and summer music festival.

Within an hour's drive lies the ancient port of Empuries, with its magnificent Greek and Roman remains.

There are 5 Michelin starred restaurants in Catalyuna and the exciting new restaurant 'Compartir', a venture started recently by three chefs from El Bulli.


Es Puig is a two minute walk to the beaches and to town with its many cafes, restaurants and bars. You can swim, scuba dive, rent a kayak or RIB, scooter or bike, play tennis or take yoga lessons. It has something for everyone, from beachcombing to clubbing.


There are regular flights from UK to Girona and Perpignan Airports, which are an hour and 10 minutes away by car. Barcelona is 2 hours and 15 minutes by road and there is a bus sevice daily, frequently in summer.

Further Details:

The town boasts the Monday market, always worth a visit, two supermarkets and many small shops selling local produce. There are a variety of fun clothing and jewellery shops (teenager's heaven), art galleries and shops selling the pretty local pottery. There are also banks, pharmacies, a dentist and a medical clinic with an emergency faciity.

Refundable Damage Deposit £579.87

Booking Notes:
A 50% deposit is required on booking, with the balance payable 1 month prior to arrival. A security deposit of 600 euros is payable on arrival, which will be refunded after the house has been cleaned and checked.

Changeover Day:
Booking is generally from Saturday to Saturday during high season but we are flexible whenever possible. Arrival should be after 4pm and departure no later than 10am.

Notes on prices:
Prices shown are for the property per week in Euros. Any part of a week going into a higher price band will be charged at that rate.

A 50% deposit is paid upon booking with the remainder due one month before going in. Both payments are non refundable unless cancellation is due to the a fault by the owner.
