Villa in Son Parc, Mercadal, Menorca - Peaceful Luxury In Private Residential Area With Private Swimming And Paddling Pools

'El Sueno'(The Dream) is a dream in which to stay, and to which you will dream of returning. It is a spacious detached villa in the quiet residential area of Son Parc and is set in large private grounds of meandering paths round olive and pine trees. The main terrace offers a proper swimming pool and attached paddling/lounging pool, furniture and plenty of

sun and shade. A lower terrace offers further sunshine and shade with view of the garden. The villa is furnished and equipped to a very high standard, with a choice of comfortable seating and dining areas. From the road you enter the sitting/living area with fully fitted kitchen separated by a breakfast bar. Through double glazed doors to an openable glazed upper terrace, with built-in BBQ, used as a dining room and additional sitting area, sunny and light, which is particularly useful in lower season and gives good views over the valley. Off the main sitting room is an ensuite double bedroom with a balcony area overlooking the pool and valley. This is a convenient layout for a couple in lower season. Downstairs are two twin bedrooms and shared bathroom and an ensuite double, all of which have direct access to the pool terrace. A separate door also gives access. The terrace has a shaded area as the bedrooms are recessed, giving plenty of space for sun loungers and splashers alike. There is also privacy for complete sun worshippers. Son Parc is an ideal spot, offering a wide sandy beach, gently shelving sea and interesting walks. There is a large golf course, a driving range and tennis courts. Horse riding and diving facilities are within 5 miles. A car is highly recommended to make the most of your holiday. Bars, restaurants, and supermarkets are within walking distance, but the return IS uphill. There are several restaurants in Fornells, Mercadal and Ses Salines well worth trying, beaches by the score and towns and historical sites to discover. You could never be bored in Menorca. But if peace and relaxation is what you need El Sueno can't be beaten!

About the Owner

My late husband and I first discovered Menorca in 1990, fell in love with and returned home, having put a deposit on an apartment in Playas de Fornells! We spent very happy times there for 8 years, before deciding we wanted more space and privacy and set about a long search for the ideal place. Our journey ended on a wooded hill in Son Parc, looking over a verdant valley towards Monte Toro, which is the highest point in Menorca. We again set about furnishing our holiday home to our own high standards of comfort, even though it was to be a business (many places are very basically furnished and equipped, as we had found on previous holidays). The result is a welcoming place where you want to relax and linger, while it is not too far from anywhere if you want to explore the island.

If your idea of bliss is a holiday in peace and quiet in a great location this is the one for you. The villa has a homely feel to it with everything you need and so much space inside and out.One of my favourites the upstairs dining area what a view.My partner the large pool and outside seating area sun or shade all day has for our daughter it was the wifi well she is 16

If you do leave the villa which you might not want too its around a 20 minute walk to shops bars and a restaurant also one of the best beaches you will see i liked it best in the early evening

And Joy so easy to book with she also has a first rate back up team near to the villa

I would say you would be best off hiring a car to make the most of seeing more of this lovely island

All in all one of the best villas we have rented and do look forward to going back soon

We wanted a large detached house with its own private pool and plenty of outside space, in a quiet area, but near all the facilities needed for a relaxing holiday. A beautiful wide sandy beach was also desirable. The residential area of Son Parc is ideal for space and privacy.

Activity and Interests

Nearest Golf : Son Parc at 2 Kilometres Car: recommended


The wide sandy beach is backed by sand dunes and Is a 5 minute drive, or a 20 minute walk from the villa (uphill on the way back!). The sea is gently shelving and forms a large bay. On one side there are rock pools and a rocky border, which is interesting for those who like snorkeling. There are beach lifeguards at high season, paddle boats and a beach cafe, with a vast area for car-parking. The energetic can walk over cliffs to more secluded beaches.


The airport is Mahon (Mao) and is about 35 minute drive to the villa. Ferries also arrive at Mahon and Cuitadella ports. A car is highly recommended to make the most of your stay: essential for the very young and less mobile and for heavy shopping. Most main roads are in excellent condition, but country lanes, particularly to secluded beaches can be bumpy.


5 minutes drive to local shops, restaurants, bars and golf club/course,driving range, tennis courts.

8 minutes drive to the horse-riding centre.

15 minutes to Mercadal, a small vibrant inland town and to Fornells, a picturesque old fishing village.

20 minutes to Alaior, the third largest town and a cheese making centre.

30 minutes to Mahon, the capital, with one of the largest/deepest harbours in the world.

45 minutes to Cuitadella, the beautiful old capital.

Further Details:

There are banks in Mercadal, Fornells, Alaior, Mahon, Cuitadella. In Son Parc there are 2 or 3 supermarkets, several restaurants, bars and gift shops. There is a doctor's clinic and a good hospital in Mahon and a part-time clinic in a local hotel. There is a bus service between Mahon, Son Parc and Fornells and taxis can be ordered. To see a lot of the island, a car is strongly recommended. Son Parc is an ideal location if you like golf as it is the home of the only golf course on the island. Many towns/villages have markets each week, the largest being in Mahon. Each town has its fiesta each year in the summer, which is worth experiencing at least once, but you have to tolerate crowds! There are many neolithic sites dotted around the island: it has a long interesting history. In spring and early autumn is a lovely time to see wild flowers and birds and is ideal for keen walkers. Es Grau and Algairens are two officially designated protected Natural Areas of beauty and wildlife. For sea-farers, Fornells has a good marina and a vast almost land-locked deep inlet. Here you can hire small boats and learn to wind surf. If diving is your scene, you can book sessions in Fornells. There is plenty to do if you want to be active, and hundreds of beaches to explore. And a home where you can be as relaxed as you want.

El Sueno is in a quiet residential area, near the end of a cul de sac, overlooking a wooded valley towards Mont Toro. it is built in the middle of three plots which gives seclusion from any neighbouring villas. Gazing down from the upper terrace or down again from the pool terrace, gives a variety of views, as do the meandering paths, created round semi natural beds of olive trees and bushes, conifers and wild orchids in season. It is blissful.

Also cars/carseats/booster seats. Pools are not fenced, so vigilance with small children essential. Paddling pool approx. 0.5m. deep. Swimming pool shallow end approx 1.54m. Twin bedrooms open onto pool terrace but have securable shutters. Bedroom 1 is on upper living level. There are two steps up from the road: suitable for the less mobile, but there is a flight of stairs, fitted with bannisters to access pool terrace. There are also outside stairs. The other bedrooms are downstairs on the pool terrace. Outside: There is a private pool approx 5 x 10m, 1.54m depth at shallow end. It has built in steps for ditherers, or those who only want to wet their feet. The attached paddling/ lounging pool is approx. 1.5m x 1.5m x0.5m depth. There are spacious terraces with plenty of outside furniture. Sun or shade can be found in different parts of the property all day: Early morning sun on the front 'patio', the lower side terrace mid morning, the pool terrace most of the day. The pool side bedrooms are recessed to afford shade when needed and there is a large patio sunshade when you want to be sensible. Gardens are designed to be semi-natural, with meandering paths round beds of olive and pine tress and a variety of plants and herbs. To one side the garden is 'au natural', with the exception of a rotary clothes dryer. Depending on the season, you will find a variety of wild orchids here. The total plot measures 2,500 square metres. There is a built-in barbecue on the glazed sun terrace. Utility Room: Washing machine, outside rotary dryer, ironing board, iron. Mop. bucket, sweeping brushes, dustpans. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: House towels, bedlinen and tea towels are provided weekly. Beds are changed and the house is cleaned weekly. For longer stays extra maid service can be quoted for. Bring your own beach towels. Other: Outside lock up storeroom with pool toys, etc. Bedrooms shaded from heat by the veranda.Outside lights and pool lights for evening relaxation - and late swims.
