This lovely place was a magical ruin in 2004. We have used traditional materials and skills where we can, overlaid with the best of modern materials where we had to.
Chris Ridley purchased this villa in 2004
If you prefer a traditional stone house, upgraded and comfortable, that is quiet and not overlooked, with a large pool, bar, aircon, good sounds, set next to a primordial wood. set in 2000 sqm of garden with barbecue. it has good Karma, and is very relaxing. from patio to souk to terrace there are many shady places to be comfy in.
With this rent you get the benefit of the whole property just for yourself in small group up to four. using the lower apartment.or up to eleven for the whole property

The essence of Cave Romana is seclusion and some sort of historical connection to an earlier time through its use of stone and the surrounding primeval woods. You can see the cuts in the stone made by slaves thousands of years ago, for this was one of five caves of white stone that was used to build Venice and the Coliseum iin Rome.
The house is a bit quirky. People have said they enjoyed the many shady spots where they can watch the fun without hearing it!
The Croatian people are very practical and friendly.Excellent safe city. wonderful daily market for local veg, fruit, fish and meal. food festivals with the best farm cured products on certain days. Many Roman events and cafe society, restaurants.
As the map shows surrounded by sea, and we are lucky to have two outstanding restaurants very close. one Routier type, and the other where the Mayor eats. bit more special, make their own bread and and traditional dishes, see the House Book. We have naturist beaches and a wonderful national park about 8 km away. I love the little plane flights.
Firstly, thank you very much for the stay, it was nothing short of an exceptional villa, we loved the place, and Pula too.
Thank you for renting usCave Romana - it was absolutely perfect for a family reunion.
We will talk about that table for years to come - fantastic how we could all fit round it and all talk to each other at the same time
(well, nearly all - not having a common language).
Just wanted to say Thank you. We all had a wonderful holiday staying at Cave Romana.
What a wonderful, rustic, personalised holiday home. Much better than the dull holiday lets we've stayed in previously.
We all enjoyed Croatia and the area we were in, with a good help from the weather too and can see how you fell in love with the place.
Thank you again and you never know we may be back, especially when the baby is older.

We were a group of ten and we had an amazing time at Chris' place. The villa is in perfect location close enough to Pula and walk able to the beach. The roman quarry is also round the corner which was fascinating. I would recommend this place to anyone who is looking to have a relaxing holiday, the villa has everything you need; swimming pool, table tennis and a dance floor! The garden has also been cleverly designed so that you are able catch sunlight at different parts of the day. I will no doubt be looking to stay at Cave Romana again at some point in the future.
A wonderful property, very spacious and air con very handy. Enough space for everyone. We were a group of ten friends from university that went and we all really enjoyed the property. The kitchen was very well equipped which was handy and close to a local shop as well which was handy as we only used bikes to travel around. Very easy to cycle into town though the hill on the return to the villa can be a bit tiring but overall, very easy to travel to and from the city on bikes.
Great seating area outside for both dinner and to chill around the pool. The sound systems are an excellent addition for playing music in the background.
Table tennis table was an added bonus!
The manager was very helpful at showing us about and helping us with hints and tips. The owner too was very good at keeping us informed about the process of our bookings etc.
The forest at the back of the property is great to explore and there are lots of nice, small villages around with nice food as well. Though there are no street lights on the road return should you would need a taxi.
Would happily return again!
My family had a wonderful time staying at Cave Romana, the grounds were extensive, giving space for every one and always some where to find the sun or shade as you wish. The house and interior is rustic in character, comfortable, quiet and practical giving good kitchen space and utensils for those who wish to cook for themselves and enjoy buying local produce. I would happily return next year.
We stayed in Cave Romana for the best part of two weeks and even with two grown-up families (total of 10 - minimum age 17, maximum somewhat more) there was plenty of space in and around the house. I counted around 10 different spots to sit outside, depending on what you wanted to do, the time of day and where the sun was. The large round dining table was great for breakfast and a relaxed evening meal – while watching the shooting stars around the pool late into the warm nights was magical. In fact, built into the old quarry, the whole place has a mystical, isolated quality. We also had use of the Topper sailing boat that provided an additional activity and is moored in a lovely creek with a bar and restaurant – walking or cycling distance from the house. We also used clay tennis courts at the nearby hotel and leisure complex. There is plenty to explore and the nearest town on the coast has some lovely beach bars and restaurants where eating out was great value. All this just 20 minutes from Pula airport. But final word goes to Josip who was always happy to help and sort out any problems.
Just returned from a two week holiday at Cave Romana. Lovely house, full of rustic charm and character. Excellent location being very close to Pula and local beaches/restaurants but in a very private setting away from the hustle and bustle. The house has lots of seated areas which were great for our family group (nine people in total) but also allowed for space and privacy. The pool set against the rock backdrop is very attractive.
Cave Romana nestles in a little hollow. It's only 20 minutes from Pula airport and town and is surrounded by lovely bars and restaurants, which are a short drive away. The house has lots of space and is perfect for a larger group because the rooms upstairs give a little independence from the main areas downstairs. The garden and terraces provide lots of little nooks and crannies if you want a quiet hour or two. The pool has a dramatic stone backdrop, which gives away the area's history - the house sits at the entrance of what was a Roman quarry. I loved it because you're both far enough away from everything for it to feel like a holiday and yet close enough to all the lovely things Pula, and Austria more broadly, have to offer.
