City apartment with balcony overlooking garden.

Updated: 09-Oct-2016
Apartment in Lucca, Tuscany - Very central. Perfect For Visiting Pisa, Viareggio, Florence Etc

Lovely apartment situated in a fantastic spot, immediately outside the main entrance to the breathtaking famous Roman Anphitheatre. Situated on the first floor the apartment offers a taste of Tuscan style architecture and everything is designed to ensure a comfortable and relaxing stay. There are about 16 steps to climb. Designed for self-catering, the kitchen has everything you could possibly need for home cooking. The kitchen is very large and it has a spaciuos table, chairs and wall unit all in cream. Shopping for food is a real pleasure as there are many local shops, specialising in traditional products and fresh fruit and vegetables. There is also a large Esselunga supermarket just outside the walls and a smaller one inside the walls.

The apartment has two spacious double bedrooms although the photographs make them seem smaller than what they are. Both bedroom windows open onto the back of the building and look over gardens and medieval buildings. The best asset of one bedroom is the amazing stonework which frames the window while the other bedroom has just been fitted with a private shower-room. The livingroom is decorated with antique wooden furniture which has been in the family for generations. The overall effect is tastful and characteristic of Tuscan architecture and style. Lucca is a medieval town and the ancient Walls surrounding it remind us of its many battles with the surrounding cities, in particular Pisa. Today the Walls offer a fantastic path for walking, running or cycling. Lucca also has 2 towers, the Clock Tower and the Guinigi Tower with its amazing olive tree on top. There are also many breathtaking churches, cathedrals and magnificent squares to admire and all within walking distance. use public transport for Pisa, Florence etc. Lucca is beautiful all year round but if you enjoy music there is a fantastic Summer festival in July starring many world famous artists.

About the Owner

Hi my name is Lucia and if you have been to Barga before you've probably met me already as I am a part of the large Scottish Italian comunity Barga is reknowned for. I came to this area when I was 18 and my parents were both Italian. If this is your first time then I'm sure we'll get along fine as I will make sure you have all the necessary information and assistance about where to go, eat, transport and so on.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Wonderful apartment in a great location with TWO bathrooms and two bedrooms, and enough beds for 2-6 people. I was so happy that there was a washing machine for our clothes. I also like the outdoor balcony with a quiet view of a garden. The location is perfect, right beside the famous anfiteatro with lots of restaurants and shops. The Internet connection is very good, the apartment is clean, lots of blankets and towels... I'm happy with all of it. I chose this apartment because of the size and exposed wood beams (really looks like an old Tuscan building which is what we wanted). I was impressed that the owner picked us up at the train station AND brought Easter chocolates for my son. Very nice owner to deal with.

phil's tuscan birthday

  • 5 of 5

Had previously stayed here in this idyllic area of Italy and had no hesitation in suggesting it as an ideal base for my brother's big birthday. Traditional flat with great taste and authentic Tuscan style. Excellent location footspeps away from the alluring anpheteatro and close to the wall ramparts for a stroll or cycle. Good restaurants and bars, coffee shops and gelaterias. Great base for cylists and runners. Ideal touring base for Florence, Barga, Sienna and the wonderful coastline at Viareggio. We hired a car but good transport system for day trips. Not waiting for his next big birthday to go back. Booked already for the Lucca Marathon in October - can't wait.

Holiday October 2015

  • 5 of 5

This was only the second visit to Italy and the first to Tuscany. And what a wonderful surprise Lucca is! Full of lovely shops, cafes and restaurants and alleyways to explore. The apartment is ideally situated next to Piazza Anfitheatro. The apartment has everything you need and was spotless. The owner was lovely and friendly and provided an excellent service. i would highly recommend this to family and friends and cant wait to go back.

The bus service to Pisa and Florence was good and relatively cheap.

An Unpleasant Experience

  • 1 of 5

The single best feature of this apartment is its location; a few footsteps from the Piazza Anfiteatro. Because it's built to the same curvature as the Piazza, it has one very narrow aspect at the front of the building, so the lounge has only one window at the apex of a triangle and it lets in very little direct sunlight. All the other rooms face the rear aspect so they are much brighter than the lounge, but again there is little direct sunlight.

The bedrooms seem to have identical mattresses and while comfortable enough, are perhaps a bit too thin as I found myself experiencing a bit of back pain on waking which took an hour or 2 to work off. A new en-suite has been installed in one of the bedrooms, but it uses a macerator to extract the waste and this is very noisy. It also kicks in even when using the shower and the wash basin on their own and it affects the water flow when using the latter, making it surge then release rhythmically.

The kitchen worktop area is very small although the room is large and there is no espresso pot, which I found strange for Italy.

There was no internet provided, despite this being advertised as having internet access. Neither was I offered a contract, so getting compensation for the lack of internet access was a drawn out affair. Of the 5 holiday properties I have rented in Italy this has been the only unpleasant experience and I will never repeat it.

Quiet, comfortable apartment in Lucca

  • 4 of 5

This large 2-bedroomed apartment is centrally located within the walls of the beautiful city of Lucca. It is just behind the very popular Piazza Anfiteatro, but it is very quiet because it is situated at the rear of the house on the 2nd floor and overlooks a garden.

There is a small balcony, which looks out over the garden.

There is a large living room, 2 two large double bedrooms and a spacious kitchen area.

We have stayed there over the past three summers and hope to return this year.

We have always found the owner friendly and helpful. The apartment is always in immaculate condition when we arrive.

We would highly recommend this apartment.

Wonderful Lucca

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed at this apartment over many years now, and in fact have booked again for next year (no better recommendation than that). It is clean and well equipped, and in a great central location. I do not like to drive abroad, and this is ideal if you want to just walk or use public transport. You are in the centre of Lucca which is a wonderful town full of sights where traffic is banned and everyone walks or cycles. You just have to open the door and it is all there. The apartment is only a few paces from the major attractions such as the Piazza Anfiteatro and the main shopping street. The Renaissance Walls are only a few minutes walk away and we often hired bikes and cycled round them. There is a small balcony looking out across gardens for outside space which is great for sitting in the sunshine and eating or having a drink. The owner, Lucia, is very helpful and approachable. Strongly recommended
