In its own parkland of approx 2.5 acres, our luxuriously restored wine cave offers beautiful holiday lodges to accommodate up to 6 people. Set amongst vineyards, apricot and peach orchards, Mas San Julian is conveniently located just 1.5 km from the town centre of Thuir, an interesting traditional market town with much charm. Thuir remains unspoilt by tourism with traditional shops, supermarkets and restaurants in which to sample the local cuisine. Set in a fine wine-growing region, Thuir is a superb location for either a quiet relaxing or action packed holiday. The extent of exploration in the area is beyond belief with its enticing markets, exotic gardens, rock pools, spectacular caves, gorges and rivers. Amongst many other activities in the surrounding area there is horse riding, golf, fishing, water sports and of course wine tasting. The lodges are fully equipped to ensure that your holiday is made as relaxing as possible. Each lodge has its own private terrace.

About the Owner

Mas San Julian is a labour of love that grows and changes every year. Many of our guests return to Mas San Julian regularly and it gives us great delight to welcome them back and to see their reactions as they look around and notice all the changes we have made since their last visit.

2010 introduces:

New Outdoor play area which includes a large play module with decks, dens, climbing ramp, swing and two-seater rider, slides and bridges. Push along toys are available for the younger children, alongside which is table tennis and seating.

New Indoor play with a super soft play area for younger children, ball pool, push along toys, tables and chairs for games and drawing amongst other activities, table tennis, large screen TV with Sky facilities and seating for parents.

From the Owner

The diversity of the Pyrenees Orientales was our reason for choosing to move here. In the summer we benefit from the good weather, beaches, watersports etc and in the winter we benefit from incredibly sunny days and a close proximity to the ski resorts allowing skiing on a daily basis if desired. We chose Thuir in particular as it is in our opinion and many of our guests - one of the nicest towns in the area. It is a traditional market town, inhabited predominantly by French people. There is continually being improved with plenty of local shops, bars and restaurants. Unspoilt by tourism in the summer, it remains "buzzing" in the winter. Easy access to the UK was important to us with ageing parents and a nice area to bring up our children - all the boxes were ticked!

Special interest holidays:

We specialise in holidays for young families and we are very proud to be able to offer yet more new facilities for 2010. These facilities include a large indoor play area with soft play for young children along with many other other toys and games, a large screen TV offering Sky facilities to enable guests to enjoy sporting events, or group interest viewing. Outside we have built a large play area to include climbing facilities, swings, slides and sandpits and outside table tennis. None of this detracting from the famous 2.5 acres of grassland where many group games have taken place over the years forging long lasting friendships amongst guests.

Coast/Beach:

The beautiful coast and its sought after towns are approx 30 minutes drive from Mas San Julian. The mile after mile of wide sandy beaches offer superb entertainment for all. From the commercialised areas of Argeles, St Cyprien and Canet, to the tiny coves along the coast road to Spain.

Travel:

The nearest airport is Perpignan (20 mins by car), but also within a comfortable drive are, Gerona (1 hour), Carcassonne (1hr 10 mins), Barcelona and Toulouse (2 hrs 30 mins). Car hire is not essential as it is possible to walk into the town centre, but in order to make the most of this beautiful region it is recommended.

Distances:

The town centre of Thuir is 1.5 km away, in the town centre you will find plenty of good restaurants, cafes, bars and takeaway facilities, as well as traditional local shops and supermarkets. The famous Caves Byrrh can also be found in the centre of Thuir. Just 5km away you will find the picturesque village of Castelnou, and within 30 mins, other well known places such as Les Orgues at Ille sur Tet, Villefranche de Conflent, St Martin de Canigou, Bellesta - the list goes on...

Further Details:

The traditional old market town of Thuir is a hive of activity in both winter and summer. Unspoilt by tourism the beautiful town with its marble pavements offer an interesting selection of local shops, restaurants, cafés and bars. The central market place becomes a mass of colour on Saturday mornings as the local traders present their goods, in a most attractive way.

Changeover Day:
During high season changeover day is Saturday. In low season we can be flexible with arrival and departure days -please do not hesitate to ask. Arrival is from 4pm on the first day of the reservation, departure is by 10am on the last day.

Prices are for the property per week in UK pounds. Prices are fully inclusive, no hidden extras.
Baby packs, cots available on request at no extra cost. For 7plus people accommodating one property there is a supplement of £30 per head (excluding children under 2). A discount is available for couples between September and June and for longer lets, please contact the owner for a quotation.

We are located just 1.5 kms from the town centre of Thuir, we therefore benefit from the peace and tranquility of the countryside but the benefits of town life within walking distance. The heated 15 x 7m pool means that swimming is possible (not just dipping!) from Easter(if the weather permits) until November. 2.5 acres of parkland allows hours of fun either team games or quieter games of tennis, badminton etc., country walks are on the doorstep. For 2010 we are proud to introduce yet even more facilities for families, including an indoor and outdoor play area offering a fabulous climbing module, sandpits, slides, soft play area, ball pool, table tennis and much, more.

Notes:

  • Notes on accommodation: The accommodation is luxuriously equipped with leather lounge furniture and quality dining furniture. Baby packs available on request to include child gates etc. The fenced heated swimming pool area, and 2.5 acres of grassed parkland makes Mas San Julian a very child friendly location. The accommodation is heated to enable guests to visit any time during the year and the heated swimming pool is open from Easter - November. Outside: The accommodation is set in 2.5 acres of beautiful green parkland with the heated pool being the central focal point. The fenced pool measures 15 x 7.5m with a large terrace surround allowing plenty of space for sun bathing for all. The ground floor under-cover furnished terrace overlooks the parkland as does the 1st floor terrace stretching the complete width of the accommodation. The second floor terrace looks out over the countryside to Les Alberes. In addition to the existing facilities we have introduced for 2010 two fabulous play areas for children. An outside area to include a play module offering, towers, slides, sand pits, swing, table tennis. An indoor play area offering soft play, push along toys, childrens tables and chairs to accommodate games, playdough and drawing facilities in addition to a large screen TV to ensure those important sporting events can be enjoyed by our guests. All this and still in excess of 2 acres of parkland to enjoy!
