Spacious and Well Equipped Farmhouse With Private Pool Set In 45 Acres

Updated: 19-Nov-2016
Farmhouse in Boussan, Nr. Aurignac, Midi Pyrenees

Perfect for exclusive rental by extended families or groups of friends alike, everyone will find a corner of our 40 acres to fall in love with. Enjoy the huge garden with orchard, herbs, terraces, BBQ and luxury heated pool that has 13 hours of sun a day. The courtyard is bordered by beautiful 13th century barns and our woods with trails, swings and dens plus our meadows provide fun and interest for all ages. The imposing restored stone farmhouse with its beamed ceilings and pantile roof boasts an environment that is both comfortable and practical. The large kitchen is perfect for cooking up a feast if the BBQ maestro is off duty. If it is your night off, can I recommend you take advantage of the sun setting over the Perron Valley from the south terrace, curl up with a book or game in the reading room or play a gentle game of boule in the courtyard? If you prefer to eat out, there are some restaurants less than 15 minutes away.

About the Owner

Sarah and I live near Salisbury in Wiltshire where since I retired from a career in business I now have non executive roles in health and heritage organisations. With our two sons we rented houses all over France for our annual holidays. Now that they have embarked on their own careers we decided to acquire a property which we could not only use on a more regular basis to share with our friends but which would also be available for others to use.

Guestbook comments from the owner

"Photos can’t really do Esbayles justice and we all loved the house, gardens and had a thoroughly relaxing week, thank you" CJ Smith

"Just a quick note to say thank you very much for allowing us to use Esbayles. We had an excellent week - the location was perfect and the house fantastic!" B Szatkowska

"Just to say that we had a fabulous fortnight at Esbayles. We did very little travelling as we were so happy sitting by the pool. The house was beautifully presented and we had no complaints. We will recommend Esbayles to all of our friends! So thank you once again" - The Naismith Family.

"We had a marvellous time at Esbayles, thank you for the opportunity to holiday there for our 2 weeks. Everything went smoothly and we loved the house, grounds and surrounding area. The short travel time to the Pyrenees was also a real bonus! This was about our 8th holiday to France and the most enjoyed of all of them." Ian and Sarah.

Ideal house for a family get-together

  • 5 of 5

We were celebrating my husband's 70th birthday, and had all the family, 14 of us, staying at Esbayles. It was perfect for us - each family (we have 3 children, with their families) had their separate 'patch' with bathroom and privacy. Everything about the house was comfortable and well appointed, even supplying swimming towels, and the pool was the highlight, where the children spent most of their time. We hardly went out, except to buy croissants for breakfast, but we did eat at The White Hart in Aurignac (don't remember the French name, but that's the translation), which was good, if mildly eccentric - Madame photographs all guests and then emails them the mugshots - but avoid their home-made pate - it's TERRIBLY expensive. Esbayles is an interesting historical site, and the mayor has the history, but in August of course he wasn't there! Esbayles gave us a wonderful holiday - highly recommended.

A beautiful charming farm house in a picturesque setting. Group of nine enjoyed the ample space and fantastic facilities for a brilliant week. Location is great with only a 50 minute drive from Toulouse. Will certainly be looking at a return visit.

A spacious, well-appointed and picturesque retreat

  • 4 of 5

Interested in the rifle ports in the walls of the main house and the dates on the SW and SE facades seemed to differ by 1 year - intriguing. Thought the place was great although the courtyard could have been a little more tidily presented. Would have been interested to read something about the history of the house and nearby castle, like the informative background on Aurignac and area in the visitor notes. However, we were mainly there for the weather and to laze around by the pool and that really worked for all of us.

Ideal for extended families

  • 4 of 5

We had a wonderful and relaxed holiday here. We were a little apprehensive about the title "Luxury" - this can often mean impeccable decoration and furnishings not really suitable for young children - but here it just meant comfort. We particularly appreciated the badminton court and the large outdoor seating areas.

Owner's Response: We are most grateful for these helpful comments and indeed our house is designed to be most comfortable and well equiped for parties of any size. During this year we have improved the outside entertainment space above the pool, and we have just completed the renovation of La Porcherie for further accommodation next year.

Wonderful family holiday home

  • 3 of 5

Hàving been 2 years ago, we knew how great Esbayles is for a family holiday. We were not dissappointed on our return visit. The information provided before and after we arrived was excellent and accurate in every detail. Esbayles was clean and in good order , and when we had a slight problem with the pool one morning, Brian the caretaker appeared promptly to start repairs which were then efficiently carried out. We have already recommended Esbayles to many friends and will continue to do so The restaurant in Aurignac, Le Cerf Blanc, was much enjoyed by our family.

From the Owner

We have always admired this area as it is not only peaceful and genuinely French but it also very accessible for communication links to the mountains and the sea, in addition to its closeness to Toulouse and the motorway network.

Activity and Interests

Nearest Airport : Toulouse at 60 Kilometres Nearest Barpub : Aurignac at 5 Kilometres Nearest Golf : Lannemezan at 70 Kilometres Nearest Train : Boussen at 15 Kilometres Nearest Motorway : A64 at 15 Kilometres Nearest Restaurant : Aurignac at 5 Kilometres Nearest Ski : Lucon at 60 Kilometres Nearest Beach : Narbonne Plage at 100 Kilometres Car: recommended

We have 2 beach lakes nearby: Boulogne Sur Gesse 25 minutes away and Samatan 35 minutes away. They have plenty of sand, picnic areas, swimming and water slides.

Biarritz is 2 hours to the West and Narbonne Plage 2.5 hours to the East.

Toulouse is just 50 mins drive and can be accessed by most main UK airports. Pau and Carcassone are 90 mins away.

Use of a car is essential.

House is just 15 mins from motorway exit.

House is also 15 mins from mainline train station.

We're are a 50 minutes drive south from Toulouse. It sits on the outskirts of the small farming village of Boussan with views over the Perron Valley and on the gentle foothills of the Pyrenees. The famed medieval town, Aurignac, is a 4 minute drive and offers a healthy mix of food, sport and archaeological remains! Furthermore the road network is excellent, giving us access to the Pyrenees spas and ski resorts within an hour and Lourdes just a little longer.

Further Details:

Families with children - We have a detailed list of the best places to entertain the whole family. The house itself is ready and waiting to welcome children of all ages and their tired parents! There are swings, games and toys galore for younger ones plus basketball, football, badminton, table tennis and local walks and cycle routes in the area. If relaxing by the pool is high on the agenda, there's plenty to keep them occupied.

Cycling and walking - The Tour de France route is never far away and last year was on our doorstep. It is testament to the variety of hills and flat available for the amateur and experienced cyclist alike. We can recommend a number of routes for you to try; ones anchored to market towns, or churches, or bars, or wildlife. The choice is yours! If you envisage a more peaceful holiday then this area is ideal with many marked paths and open countryside to walk. For more of a challenge the beauty of the Pyrenean National Park is only an hour away where you will see eagles, vultures, kites and a variety of mammals in their natural habitat. Birdwatchers need venture no further than the terrace at Esbayles to observe eagles, kites, buzzards and many other species so bring your binoculars.

Food glorious food - The South West is the food hot spot of France and locals more typically eat out for lunch, followed by socialising amongst friends or at eating at home for the evening. Should you not want to slip into this way of life then we can easily guide you to those local restaurants that open at night too. When it suits you to eat at home, you'll have the choice of a farmhouse or an alfresco set up.

From the Owner

The farmhouse is just five minutes from Aurignac which has a range of excellent shops and most important of all three boulangeries. The property is very spacious with 7 bedrooms and 4 shower/bath rooms and yet is still comfortable so that it is ideal from our experience for hosting family groups of all ages and for smaller groups. It has a large garden with delightful eating areas and a heated pool, and sits in an area of over 40 acres of fields and woodland. As two bedrooms and a bathroom are situated on the ground floor there is good access for disabled guests. The property now also includes a separate one bedroom converted barn for further guests or helpers.
