About the property

House on El Cerretillo, Nr. Algarinejo, Poniente de Granada - South Facing Pool and Patios in Tranquil Location Among the Olive Hills

Casa Cerretillo is a beautifully maintained, spacious, detached rustic house, with hints of the region’s Moorish past. It is nestled on El Cerretillo with uninterrupted and stunning views of the rolling olive hills, Mount Tinosa and the village of Algarinejo. Being situated along a short track just above the road means this quiet position is easily accessible. Enter from the private driveway into fully gated south facing patio and private 10x5 metre pool with sun terrace, this is a wonderful place to feel closer to nature whilst still enjoying all the creature comforts, TV and DVD player available (NB very limited channels only available on SAT TV). Enjoy the local flora and fauna - walking, cycling, riding, birdwatching (& almond blossom appreciating!). With the historical city of Granada only 1 hour and Iznajar lake and beach 30mins away and many historic villages locally - you get the best of both worlds. This 3 bed house with separate kitchen, dining room and lounge is perfect for a romantic get-away or family holiday.

About Ursula and Mark

Hi, I'm Ursula living in Essex, England with husband Mark, our son George, now 7 and dogs Bacco (who we rescued from Spain) and Scarlett.

Ursula and Mark purchased this house in 2004

Why Ursula and Mark chose Granada Province (Costa Tropical)

The house is actually owned by my Dad who bought the house after coming to the area and seeing the view from my old ramshackle Cortijo about 10KM away. I spent a year in Spain refurbishing it all for him and we originally conceived it as a tiny B&B retreat where I could offer my holistic treatments but the arrival of both the recession and of George 7 years ago changed our focus slightly!

I fell in love with the area because the countryside is so beautiful and has incredible views and is still so undiscovered by tourists in general.

What makes this house unique

Our guests tell us that its an instantly relaxing place and that it feels very homely - helping you to feel like you instantly belong there! You can enjoy the lovely patios and private swimming pool in the hotter months.

The house is cosy in the winter and the cooler months - with a heating system (something that most houses don't have in southern Spain) as well as a wood burning stove where you can cosy up with a good book or watch some DVDs or TV. Its also a great base for walking - just head straight out from the house, or take a short trip into the village or to the Sierra Subbetica near Priego de Cordoba - we've seen some fantastic wildlife and birds of prey there.

We're proud of our eco credentials - we were the first house in the area to get solar panels and all the hot water is providing from the panels on the roof of the house.

We love to pick the almonds, figs, apricot and olives if we're there and enjoy the almond blossom in February/March. Please feel free to pick the fruit and nuts if you're there during late summer/early autumn.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Just to let you know we had a great week at your house in Granada. It was in a beautiful location and from our experience of renting holiday homes you definitely go the extra mile to make guests feel very comfortable. We would definitely love to stay there again. Cathy and family.

The house was everything we had hoped for and more. It was very cosy and we really felt that every detail had been thought through so that we had all the essentials for a comfortable stay in self catering accommodation - really a home away from home- but in quite extraordinarily stunning surroundings and the wonderfully private pool was just perfect for us too. Rachel.

Ursula, we absolutely loved staying with you in Casa Cerretillo: the house is so authentic and beautifully restored and furnished, yet very comfortable. Your house with its lovely surrounding scenery, the local walks and the nearby white villages was a wonderful way to relax and enjoy Andalusia! - Sjoerd and Martine (from Holland).

Very relaxing in a great location

  • 5 of 5

We spent 3 weeks at Casa Cerretillo in summer 2016. If you are looking for a holiday off the beaten track, very quiet with great views with a good pool then this is the place for you.

This is a lovely old house that has been modernised very tastefully. It is on the side of the valley, very private and not overlooked. It is superbly well equipped and presented, the bathrooms are particularly nice.

There is plenty of space to relax, whether it is by the pool or in front of the house overlooking the valley where the view is of olive trees as far as the eye can see.

The pool was fantastic, big enough to swim properly in and well maintained.

We hardly saw another person the whole time we were there, other than the chap bringing his goats in each evening!

Algarinejo is only 10 minutes drive away and has a well stocked small supermarket and several places to eat. We enjoyed La Huella and the pizza place on the main square.

We felt no need to go very far on trips because it was so relaxing at the villa. However, if you feel the urge there are several towns within 30 minutes drive and Granada is about an hour away.

I would have no hesitation in recommending Casa Cerretillo and returning for another holiday in the future.

Perfect for a relaxing holiday in the sun

  • 5 of 5

The villa is very thoughtfully and tastefully equipped and presented, and exceeded our expectations. The bedrooms and bathrooms are particularly nice. The location is extremely secluded, but only about five minutes drive along the typical winding roads from the village of Algarinejo which has a small supermarket and a few other (mostly odd) shops and several bars and restaraunts. We particularly recommend the recently opened 'La Huella' 'gastrobar-excellent food at unbelievably cheap prices. If you want somewhere with complete privacy in order to relax in the sun, Casa Cerretillo is perfect.

Character, comfort and choice

  • 5 of 5

We had a fabulous holiday at Casa Cerretillo. The house is of a high standard, well equipped and very characterful. The service was excellent with a weekly clean and linen change as well as pool management. The choice of terraces provided different aspects to enjoy and there was plenty of shade available. The sun loungers were extra comfortable with thick cushions. The pool is big enough to swim in and the house is a cool retreat from the mid-afternoon sun if the pool is not enough. The layout of the property overall is compact, in a good way - it is never too far to the fridge! The views are of mountainside covered in olive trees, and sunsets down towards the town. There is not much light pollution so stargazing is good (unless the moon is up of course!). We heard distant goat bells, saw hoopoes and caught a brief glimpse of a pair of birds of prey (too brief to identify). The location is a great base for exploring villages and lakes of Andalusia between Malaga, Cordoba and Granada, and a visit to the Alhambra was easy enough by car (book in advance). Algarinejo has great, excellent value food, both traditional and modern (taster menus). We can highly recommend this property if you like to get away from the bustle of the coast and see real Spain, both old and new.

Super property and great holiday

  • 5 of 5

We'd highly recommend this property. It was an absolute pleasure to arrive at a property and discover that it didn't just meet our expectations from the internet site, but exceeded them. The house is so welcoming and comfortable, and the pool and outside terraces are stunning.

Having done the necessary shopping and a bit of sight seeing in the mornings, we spent the afternoons and evenings around and in the pool (beautifully lit at night), and ate outside every evening - and this was in the last week of September. Sitting on the terrace watching the sunrise and sunset over the mountains was just beautiful.

The house is so well equipped and tastefully decorated, the beds very (too!) comfortable and the whole place was spotlessly clean. It was lovely to find a welcome pack and some cooking essentials, some books and plenty of local information - such thoughtful touches.

Mark and Jenny were endlessly helpful and a mine of information and keep the property in beautiful condition.

I'd love to report on all the fantastic restaurants we went to, but to be honest, we didn't want to swap our evenings on the terrace!

Thanks for a fantastic holiday. We'll certainly be back.
