'Son Amar' is a traditional villa in the beautiful resort area of Son Bou, which has the largest beach on Menorca, a long sandy beach with safe bathing for children. There is also a good selection of bars, restaurants, water park, maze and water sports. The resort is not over developed on the beach front due to the protected wetlands behind the beach. The villa is situated in a quiet cul de sac with a mature garden and pine trees, a lovely private spot. The beach is a 15 minute walk or a few minutes drive. The main shopping and entertainment areas of Son Bou are a ten minute walk away, but the closest bar with a pool is about 200m away.

A beautiful property in Son Bou

We had a little bit of an emergency whilst we were holidaying in Cala En Porter. The private property we were staying at wasn't quite ready for public consumption, so we we desperately needed somewhere else to stay. Whilst in a restaurant, nearly contemplating to just come back home and call it a write-off, due to the peak season, Susie and Steve came to the rescue. We were very impressed with their quick email correspondence and with less than a days notice, we were booked in and ready to go.

The villa itself is in a beautiful and peaceful location overlooking the coast, away from any noise pollution, each night we were just mesmerised by the blood orange Luna sunset, as a star gazer we could see it perfectly along with various stars and planets on display. A little walk away or a quick hop in the car, we were in the centre of Son Bou, where we could really start our holiday, exploring the various bars, restaurants and of course the beach! We spent most of the time on the beautiful beach at the pink beach bar situated on the middle for dinner most nights.

The villa is cosy and smelt really clean when we entered, Susie said that it may not be fully clean, due to the such short notice, i.e leaves on the drive way etc, but it was perfect. The master bedroom overlooks the sea and it was so nice to just wake up and see the sea whilst a little bog eyed.

All in all a wonderful holiday - and thank you again to Susie and Steve for helping us out in our hour of need.

Beatiful villa in peaceful setting ! Villa is very well equipped and very comfortable. The view from the balcony is amazing. Very easy to get to the beach as well as local shops and restaurants. Highly recommend ! Real home away from home.

The villa was brought for family holidays in the 1980's after we had spent a number of years driving every day from Cala'n Porter to the beach at Son Bou, which is undoubtedly the best beach on the island (we are biased!) I have holidayed on Menorca since I was 3 years old, my wife's first visit was 2 months after we met!. Our children have also been to Menorca almost every year. Having travelled widely, Menorca is a lovely familiar place to come back to - not too crowded, not changing too much between visits; a friendly and easy place to return to. Beach lovers will love the wide variety of beaches available, walkers will love the spring flowers, canoeists the secluded coves, there is history and culture in abundance. Disco and rave lovers; go to Ibiza!

Activity and Interests

Coast/Beach:

The resort of San Jaime (Son Bou) is based around the largest beach on the island; over 2km long. It is also possible to take a walk to San Thomas, in the next bay. San Jaime is connected to the rest of the island by two roads, making it ideal to explore the rest of the island.

Travel:

The nearest airport is Mahon, which is about a 15 minutes drive away. There is a bus service throughout the island, but it is best explored by car. If not, it is possible to join excursions arranged by the hotels in the resort. Keen walkers can use the "Cami de Cavalls" coastal path to explore!

Distances:

The nearest town is Alaior, 7km away. Mao (Mahon) is the island capital based around the large natural harbour which made the island an important port for the British fleet. The port is now home to many bars and restaurants, and an interesting collection of boats. The regular ferry service between Barcelona, Palma and Valencia stops here. At the other end of the island, the old capital Cuitadella is full of Spanish charm and well worth a visit.

Further Details:

There are two supermarkets in San Jaime, along with many tourist shops in the main complex near the hotels. Alaior has many shops and larger supermarkets and restaurants for evening meals. Check for timings for local Fiesta's - these should not be missed.

The villa is on a quiet cul-de-sac, not far from the beach by car - or a 15 min walk. The villa is one of the original resort builds, so it is spacious on a large plot. Families can 'spread out' by using the front terrace, the side patio or even the roof, so you are not crammed into a small apartment. We don't have air conditioning, television, internet or phone connection - we aim to keep the villa simple, clean and calm - the way we like our holidays! For those desperate to tweet or update their status, there is good 3G coverage!
