About the property

3 bedrooms and pool. Lovely Rural Location between Poitiers and Limoges

Just an hour from both Limoges and Poitiers with their cheap flights, or 5-7 hours drive from the French ports the cottage is reached down a narrow farm lane. It has a fully enclosed and secure garden, with an above ground pool, a lovely terrace, trampoline, hammocks and a BBQ. Inside there is spacious accommodation with beamed ceilings and tiled floors. Full central heating and a wood-burning stove, fully fitted kitchen, 2 double and a twin bedroom, 2 shower-rooms and a mezzanine sitting area with TV, UK Satellite and DVD, wireless broadband. There is plenty of space on the mezzanine for extra sleeping. The local village has 2 boulangeries, a bank and a bar. There is a great restaurant just across the river from the cottage. You will find some lovely walks and cycle rides; fishing and water sports on nearby lakes and rivers, horse-riding and some charming medieval towns to explore.

About The Owner

I live in the the South of England with my husband, 2 kids and our dog.

The Owner purchased this cottage in 2005

Why The Owner chose Vienne

We bought our lovely cottage so we could have somewhere for holidays and be able to take our newly acquired puppy. We wanted somewhere far enough south to get good weather in the summer, but near enough so we could drive in a (long) day from home.

We also wanted somewhere near to airports so we have the option to fly for short trips.

It has been a real joy.

We have had great summers there playing in the garden and in the pool; larking about on the hammocks; cycling and visiting some charming towns and villages.

We also love it in the winter, curling up beside the log burner after a chilly walk by the river, or watching some great DVDs.

What makes this cottage unique

I love just lying in a hammock with a book and a glass of wine! I particularly like having the internet radio, so I don't miss the Archers even on holiday! And of course it's great discovering new restaurants, markets and shops.

The kids love having a big garden, the trampoline to bounce on and a pool to play in. They like having empty roads to cycle along, swimming in the river and going horse riding.

The dog likes new walks and a garden to sniff around.

My husband just likes to potter and also work from the house, as we have a good wifi connection.

And all our guests seem to think Chez Bobin is as magical as we do, judging from the great comments in our visitors book.

Guestbook comments from the owner

'I want to say that we have been to France many times over the last ten years, and your home was the best place (and location) that we have been to. Everything was as promised and much more. Everything was wonderful and would highly recommend your home and the support that was provided.'

'A little piece of Heaven.'

'What a relaxing holiday!'

'The kids just loved the garden.'

Charming comfortable cottage

  • 5 of 5

Wonderful holiday home with all the comforts one needs for a cosy winter break in France. Very easy to find and in a beautiful location. The house was warm and easy to live in with an efficient wood burner for chilly winter days. The kitchen is well equiped, the bathrooms were clean. The bedrooms and beds very comfortable. It is also very dog and child friendly and in a great position for visiting local towns. There are some lovely walks right on the door step and a couple of wonderful restaurants along the local river. We have at Chez Bobin three times so far, twice in the winter and once in the summer and I can happily say it has never disappointed. I highly recommend this cottage.

Escape from our hassled lives.

  • 5 of 5

Chez Bobin is in a quiet hamlet, but not so far from bread, markets, good restaurants and great days out. When you are at Chez Bobin you feel the peace. Wonderful countryside with wild flowers, good walks, toads croaking , stars, oh the stars. Swim in the pool, lie in the hammocks and read a book , just watch the birds, even a hoopoe on the lawn. We will remember Roc D'enfur , a walk away, for the river, the picnic and sipping wine on a rock. We loved the garden , perfect for long meals outside. Markets locally are superb, cheese to remember. Chez Bobin is well equipped for singles to families. It is a loved family home. If you love countryside or just need a hassle free break Chez Bobin is perfect. We cannot wait to return.

The perfect "get away from it all" place

  • 5 of 5

Our second family trip to Chez Bobin firmly established it as a perfect "get away from it all" type of place, and we plan to return regularly. The remote location means you can't help but slow down.

The well-equipped kitchen and superb fresh local produce make meal times a focus of our stays, and when the sun is shining and lunch can be taken slowly on the terrace with a bottle of wine recommended by Monsieur Brulee, followed by a snooze in one of the hammocks, I don't want much more! The children tend to disagree with that, however, but luckily there are plenty of opportunities to take them out, explore the local culture, have a fun day out at a theme park etc., or just let off steam running around the garden (great for den building). June was a little too cool to use the garden pool, but we all enjoyed it on our previous trip.

Both outside and inside the house there are plenty of quiet corners to read, snooze, chat, daydream, paint (or even practise your singing as one friend discreetly did). On evenings and cooler days, the wood burning stove provides cosiness, and a large, up-to-date and cultured DVD collection helps while away the evenings.

In summary, a well-equipped, clean and homely property. Good clear instructions, directions and recommendations for activities. Reliable and personal customer service.

Great place to stay

  • 5 of 5

We spent 3 very enjoyable weeks at Chez Bobin in June 2014. The Gite is very well fitted out clean and very comfortable. We did not meet the owners but the Gite was just as described online. The pool was fun and bikes are available too.

We particularly enjoyed the garden and sitting out area. We took our small dog with us and found the garden to be secure and safe. He enjoyed it immensely !

This is not a part of France that has big "set piece" attractions but we enjoyed trips to Poitiers and Limoges and to La Rochelle and the Loire a bit further afield. Montmorillon has all the shops you need and there are plenty of good restaurants nearby.

We would recommend the Gite to all but be aware that the stairs to the first floor are quite steep for those with limited mobility.

Real France

  • 5 of 5

I've been to Chez Bobin a number of times. It is a perfect and relaxing rural French retreat. With the local village just a 5 minute drive away you can get everything you need (baker, supermarket, couple of eateries, great wine cave!). Or go further a-field for the comfortable market town of Montmorillon. With Limoges and Poitiers not far away and lots to do and see (don't miss Futuroscope) there is something for everyone. But if you just want to relax at home, the big garden with hammocks, pool, BBQ and trampoline is a joy. In the winter it's lovely to snuggle up by the wood burning stove. House is very well equipped and it feels like being in someone's home rather than a 'rental'. Very helpful owners. Planning to go back!

Wonderful holiday home from home

  • 5 of 5

This is an idyllic place to stay - the owner has obviously thought about making sure guests are comfortable and feel at home. The kitchen is well equipped, and everything is clean and comfortable. Highlights include lying in the hammock in the garden, BBQs on the terrace, good wine in the evenings in front of the wood burner, and the peace and quiet. As well as good country walks, and great places to eat. I have stayed here a few times and hope to return.
