Gite with Private Pool

Overview

Property

Updated: 29-Oct-2016
3 bedrooms and pool. Lovely Rural Location between Poitiers and Limoges

Just an hour from both Limoges and Poitiers with their cheap flights, or 5-7 hours drive from the French ports the cottage is reached down a narrow farm lane. It has a fully enclosed and secure garden, with an above ground pool, a lovely terrace, trampoline, hammocks and a BBQ. Inside there is spacious accommodation with beamed ceilings and tiled floors. Full central heating and a wood-burning stove, fully fitted kitchen, 2 double and a twin bedroom, 2 shower-rooms and a mezzanine sitting area with TV, UK Satellite and DVD, wireless broadband. There is plenty of space on the mezzanine for extra sleeping. The local village has 2 boulangeries, a bank and a bar. There is a great restaurant just across the river from the cottage. You will find some lovely walks and cycle rides; fishing and water sports on nearby lakes and rivers, horse-riding and some charming medieval towns to explore.

Great place to stay

  • 5 of 5

We spent 3 very enjoyable weeks at Chez Bobin in June 2014. The Gite is very well fitted out clean and very comfortable. We did not meet the owners but the Gite was just as described online. The pool was fun and bikes are available too.

We particularly enjoyed the garden and sitting out area. We took our small dog with us and found the garden to be secure and safe. He enjoyed it immensely !

This is not a part of France that has big "set piece" attractions but we enjoyed trips to Poitiers and Limoges and to La Rochelle and the Loire a bit further afield. Montmorillon has all the shops you need and there are plenty of good restaurants nearby.

We would recommend the Gite to all but be aware that the stairs to the first floor are quite steep for those with limited mobility.

Real France

  • 5 of 5

I've been to Chez Bobin a number of times. It is a perfect and relaxing rural French retreat. With the local village just a 5 minute drive away you can get everything you need (baker, supermarket, couple of eateries, great wine cave!). Or go further a-field for the comfortable market town of Montmorillon. With Limoges and Poitiers not far away and lots to do and see (don't miss Futuroscope) there is something for everyone. But if you just want to relax at home, the big garden with hammocks, pool, BBQ and trampoline is a joy. In the winter it's lovely to snuggle up by the wood burning stove. House is very well equipped and it feels like being in someone's home rather than a 'rental'. Very helpful owners. Planning to go back!

Wonderful holiday home from home

  • 5 of 5

This is an idyllic place to stay - the owner has obviously thought about making sure guests are comfortable and feel at home. The kitchen is well equipped, and everything is clean and comfortable. Highlights include lying in the hammock in the garden, BBQs on the terrace, good wine in the evenings in front of the wood burner, and the peace and quiet. As well as good country walks, and great places to eat. I have stayed here a few times and hope to return.

Beautiful home in rural setting

  • 5 of 5

Have been visiting Chez Bobin for 10 years now and absolutely love it for these reasons (in no particular order!).... bike rides, walks, river rapids, horse riding, local family-owned restaurants, pretty nearby town dedicated to literature, visits to Futuroscope, large garden with activities for kids, loads of DVDs, books and games available, Wifi, hammocks, great local patisseries and a weekly local market. We go to the house for a week every couple of years - driving down from Dieppe or Calais. Have also flown from Southampton to Limoges. The house also makes a great place for a family/friends house party too as the garden and grounds are large enough for camping.

Enjoyed our stay at Chez Bobin, property was as advertised, clean and well maintained. Quiet location but not far from lots of charming small towns and villages. Would recommend to anyone looking for a peaceful chilled out holiday.

Location

From the Owner

We bought our lovely cottage so we could have somewhere for holidays and be able to take our newly acquired puppy. We wanted somewhere far enough south to get good weather in the summer, but near enough so we could drive in a (long) day from home. We also wanted somewhere near to airports so we have the option to fly for short trips. It has been a real joy. We have had great summers there playing in the garden and in the pool; larking about on the hammocks; cycling and visiting some charming towns and villages. We also love it in the winter, curling up beside the log burner after a chilly walk by the river, or watching some great DVDs.

Activity and Interests

Nearest Barpub : La Voulzie at 0.5 Kilometres Car: necessary

Coast/Beach:

There are several lake beaches in the area. Lake St Pardoux is about 45 minutes away - it has a lovely sandy beach, safe swimming and lots of water sports. In the summer there is plenty of swimming in the river 5 minutes away.

Travel:

Ryanair fly from Stansted to Poitiers and Limoges which are both about an hour away. They also fly from Liverpool and Birmingham to Limoges. Flybe fly from Southampton to Limoges. Ryanair often have cheaper flights to Tours, which is about 2 hours away. The cottage is about 6 hours from Calais, and about 5 from Dieppe and Le Havre.

Distances:

The nearest village, Lathus St Remy is about 5 minutes drive. Montmorillon, 20 mintues away, is delightful with lots of restaurants, cafes, a market and plenty of activities for adults and children. There a 12th century church, Octagon and Monastry and the world famous Macaroon Museum. The old towns of Bellac, Le Dorat, Chauvigny and Le Blanc are all near, with lots to explore and discover.

Further Details:

Futuroscope - a 21st Century attraction park devoted to films and images - is less than an hour away; so is a Monkey Sanctuary and a Reptile Centre. The monthly market at Les Herolles is the largest in the region and well worth a visit. As is the velo-rail at Chavingny where you 'cycle' along an old railway track 8km into the countryside and back. Bungee jumping, micro-lighting, motor racing and 4x4 off roading are all available close by.

Facilities

From the Owner

I love just lying in a hammock with a book and a glass of wine! I particularly like having the internet radio, so I don't miss the Archers even on holiday! And of course it's great discovering new restaurants, markets and shops. The kids love having a big garden, the trampoline to bounce on and a pool to play in. They like having empty roads to cycle along, swimming in the river and going horse riding. The dog likes new walks and a garden to sniff around. My husband just likes to potter and also work from the house, as we have a good wifi connection. And all our guests seem to think Chez Bobin is as magical as we do, judging from the great comments in our visitors book.
