About Garry Winfield

We are just an ordinary, professional, middle-England family living in Retford, Nottinghamshire very close to Robin Hood and his famous Sherwood Forest. Garry has turned 50+, works as a self employed consultant to the retail motor trade, a business he has been in since 1979. Beverley is a company secretary/accountant for a small computer networking company in Newark. It is a little 'outrageous' to share Bev's age here, but she is aged between 35 and 50 (she regularly tells us!). Harry graduated in Graphics Design and now lives in London, working at Cosmopolitan magazine.

We all love Portugal and are very proud of our villa - we hope that all our many guests, some regular clients returning year after year, love the villa and Tavira as much as we do!

Garry Winfield purchased this villa in 2005

Why Garry Winfield chose Tavira region

We had been holidaying in the Algarve (normally the West like most folks) for the previous 10 years and we just kept coming back to Portugal, because it felt like our 'home from home!'

We loved the place, the people, the climate, the food, the golf, the beaches and the whole thing so much, we thought 'why don't we try and buy our own place in the Algarve?' We hooked up with some Estate Agents in the Eastern Algarve, and the brochure we liked the best right from the start turned out to be our villa - the one you're looking at now! We absolutely loved Tavira and Alto do Perogil locations as soon as we arrived here.

It's a bit of 'Older' Portugal than the Western or Central Algarve - a bit slower paced. Our villa is great for family holidays and Golfers, Walkers alike. Come and see!

What makes this villa unique

We're only 25 minutes from Faro Airport. Our Villa sits at the top of one of the highest points in Tavira - looking down on the town, seaside and hills to the rear. The views are stunning, and eating lunch or BBQ dinner on the 1st Floor Terrace is not to be missed! T

he Pool is larger than on most complexes. The grounds are especially lovely and 'pitching' for a day in the sun is such a wonderful pleasure here. We are literally only a few paces from the pool, and we do pride ourselves on providing the best available Sun Loungers for our guests.

Walking into Tavira of an evening is all downhill and a very pleasant tree-lined walk - the Bistro restaurants are excellent and so our advice would be - take a taxi back up that hill - it's great value at only 4-5 Euros!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Hi Garry

Just a note to say thank you for letting us rent your villa. We had a relaxing holiday with good weather for most of the week. The pool area was lovely and it was great being able to walk into Tavira. Ian was very helpful and gave us some useful info re the local area, where to eat, taxis etc. We used SB Van hire to get us to and from the airport and we can definitely recommend them.

Sadly now we are back to the daily grind.

Regards

Jayne Price (September 2014)

Hi Gary

We would very much like to return again as we would like to look further afield. The views at the back were stunning, and whetted the appetite.

Been back a week now and haven’t stopped to think.

The holiday was fabulous. Your villa provided everything that we needed to enjoy our stay to the maximum. The weather was fantastic for the time of year (and considering the previous few weeks). We can truly say that we came back refreshed. We enjoyed a lovely meal at one of the restaurants immediately outside the old fish market on our last evening. We had promised our daughter that we would, so that she could max out on fish dishes.

Plenty of things to do and see, and we adore the town with its history and lovely setting. We used public transport for the trips out and they proved most efficient and reliable. Apart from the occasional taxi, a pleasant walk in and out of town was a perfect leg stretch for us.

Thank you for all of the arrangements and for giving us the opportunity to stay.

Best Wishes

Tom Julie + Amy Wheeldon (October 2014)

Hi Garry,

Well after a lovely warm break in the Algarve we are back to the cold and wet!

I very much enjoyed staying in your Villa. Many Thanks,

Gary Young (November 2014)

Just a quick note to say a huge thank you! The villa was absolutely gorgeous and we all had an amazing week. I definitely want to return with my other half next year! It was just perfect & Ian did a great job of explaining where all the restaurants & bars were and we went to have dinner at The Patio which was divine. Thanks again for a wonderful holiday.

Katy Shortland - Sept 2010

Just to let you know we had a super holiday in Portugal. As promised the weather was fabulous and the children loved the pool. They enjoyed the company of the other children there too. I am considering booking now for next year.

Pauline, Michael, Grace, Mikey and Adam McNamara - Aug 2010

Just returned and wanted to say we had a great holiday. Your house the grounds and Tavira in general were excellent.

There was so much to see and not enough time to do it. So for the first time in all our holidays we are considering whether to return next year.

“The kids would have loved it as well”

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful house in a lovely quinta overlooking Tavira. Nice pool with shade and plenty of peace and quiet. Easy downhill walk into the incredible town of Tavira. Real old town Portugal with authentic bars, restaurants and shops. Great beaches only 10 minutes drive, 5 euro taxi or a few minutes on the ferry from centre of town. We'll be back...with the kids!

Ideal villa in a beautiful development

  • 5 of 5

Arrived in Faro in gorgeous sunny weather. 25 minutes transfer to this lovely villa close to Tavira town centre. Attractive development with shared pool right outside with some trees offering much needed shade. Well equipped kitchen, nice lounge and ideal roof terrace. Beautiful beaches in the area including Tavira (reached by ferry on the river in town) and Barril (narrow gauge railway). Several very nice meals in Tavira and surrounding area. There was a festival in progress on arrival with free concerts and many tents along the riverside selling local produce. There was a real buzz about the place. Thoroughly enjoyed our trip.

Tavira - by Small / Large Boat
Car: not necessary

Coast/Beach:

Superb wide, safe and clean beaches are a speciality of this part of the Algarve. The nearest beaches are at Tavira Beach and Cabanas / Santa Luzia and are quaintly accessed by water-taxi/boat or small train - well worth the experience! Or by walking in Manta Rota, Praia Verde, Altura, Monte Gordo, Santa Luzia and Villa Real St.Antonio. A miniture train which can also be caught to take you to the beach in Santa Luzia (the children love this)!

Travel:

Tavira is situated 35km east of Faro airport. We can arrange pickup by taxi or their is an excellent train or bus connection. Alternatively you can hire a car from a number of rental companies located at Faro airport which would give you greater freedom to explore. Car hire is recommended but not essential for our location. A visit to the Spanish border by car is only approx 25 mins by car and Seville can be reached in a little over an hour from the border.

Distances:

Historic Tavira is within walking distance of the property. Tavira is often called the prettiest town on the Algarve. You are 15km to charming fishermens towns of Olhao and Fuzeta, the nature reserve Ria Formosa is within 8km and unspoilt villages such as Santa Luzia, Cabanas and Cacela Velha are all within a few kms. The Spanish border is within 30 mins by car and Seville is not much more than an hour from the border by car.

Further Details:

Tavira has a long histrory where time seems to have stood still. There are many intimate restaurants/bars to explore as you stroll along the cobbled streets and waterfront. It also has an excellent array of shops and a marvellous fresh daily market for vegatables, fruit and fish. There are also regional and flee markets. You can explore Tavira by miniature train or by horse drawn carriage. Guided tours are available in this historic town which has in excess of 35 churches, museums and fortified remains. Watersports can be found on the main beaches of Tavira in the summer.

Tennis can also be played at a local hotel only five minutes from the villa, where you can alos hire equipment. Horse riding is situated 10 minutes by car from the villa and all details of how to book can be found in the villa.
